Murshidabad unrest: Father-son dragged out of house, killed in front of family, alleges charge sheet

Kolkata, Jun 7 (PTI) Haragobindo Das and his son Chandan were dragged out of their home and killed with an axe in front of their family during the communal violence in Murshidabad, police said in its 900-page charge sheet.
These 13 people were charged with house-trespass, house-breaking, rioting, and murder committed by a group under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, besides various sections of the Arms Act, the officer said.
The charge sheet also detailed how the accused persons managed to flee following the murder, and the efforts made to arrest them, he said.
The trial in the case is expected to start soon, he added.
The communal unrest, which lasted from April 8 to 12, caused widespread damage to properties, prompting the Calcutta High Court to order the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces. Odisha: Four arrested for rape of two minors
Police arrested four persons for allegedly raping two minor cousins after luring them from a marriage function, in Odisha on Saturday. The accused abducted the minors on June 3 from the function and held them captive till June 4, after which they abandoned the victims in a secluded area. We will request the court to expedite the trial and ensure maximum punishment to the accused,' the SP said.

Bhopal: Cops said that in a major breakthrough against illegal weapons possession, Talaiya police on Saturday arrested a 21-year-old man and seized 12 sharp-edged swords from his possession in the city. Indore: In a major crackdown on illegal arms trafficking, the crime branch of Indore police on Saturday arrested a smuggler from Barwani and seized eight country-made pistols with magazines, two live cartridges, and a motorcycle from his possession. Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya said that the accused, 25-year-old Ashok, was apprehended on Rau–Rajendra Nagar Road. Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch team intercepted the suspect and found eight country-made pistols with magazines, two live cartridges, and a motorcycle in his possession. Police said that Ashok was planning to smuggle the illegal weapons from Barwani and supply them in Indore city. During questioning, he confessed to bringing the firearms concealed in a white plastic sack with the intention of making quick money. He claimed to be unemployed and previously worked as a labourer. However, in a bid to earn easy cash, he got involved in arms trafficking. The seized arms were found to be without any valid licences. A case was registered under sections 25(1–AA) and 27 of the Arms Act at Indore crime branch police station. The police took Ashok in remand and are interrogating him further to identify his associates involved in the arms racket. Based on his revelations, action will also be initiated against others found to be involved in the illegal trade. This arrest is part of an ongoing campaign launched by senior police officials in Indore to clamp down on illegal arms trafficking across the district.
