World's most expensive web series, one episode cost Rs 480 crore, whole series is worth Rs..., name is...
Television has historically been viewed as a poor cousin of cinema, often blurred by the grand scale of big-budget films on the silver screen. Even with the most popular TV shows, this perception was held true both in India and West. However, the scenario shifted with the rise of OTT platforms, which introduced shows made on a grand-scale. Today, we will talk about the most expensive OTT show that even surpassed the most lavish films produced globally.
According to reports, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is considered to be the most expensive web shows in the history. The show's first season premiered on Amazon Prime Video in 2022 reported to have cost an astonishing $1 billion (Rs 8300 crore). The cost encompasses the overall rights and promotional expenses of season 1.
Reports claim that the production costs alone reached around 465 million dollars (over Rs 3800 crore), making each episode of the season cost a jaw-dropping $58 million ( Rs 480 crore).
Star Wars: The Force Awakens , which is considered the most expensive film ever made, made on a production budget of $447 million, is still less than that of The Rings of Power. In comparison, the original Lord of the Rings trilogy is reportedly made on a production budget of only 260 million dollars for all the three films. The spinoff show has set a benchmark, outshining its predecessors with a notable margin.
Indian films still trail behind. Kalki 2898 AD, RRR, and Adipurush , that are considered one of the most expensive Indian films, are still just 1/15th of the production budget, in comparison to what the Rings of Power's season 1 cost.

‘Thug Life' box office collections day 3: Kamal Haasan's film shows slight recovery; collects Rs 30.15 crores
(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan 's highly anticipated collaboration 'Thug Life' may have generated significant pre-release buzz, but the box office numbers so far reflect a slow start for the mega project. After witnessing a sharp dip on Day 2, the film showed a marginal improvement on its third day. According to early estimates reported by the Sacnilk website, 'Thug Life' earned Rs 7.50 crore on Saturday, taking its three-day India net total to Rs 30.15 crore across all languages. Modest uptick on Saturday Following its opening day collection of Rs 15.5 crore, the film saw a drastic 53.87% drop on Friday, with only Rs 7.15 crore in earnings. However, on Saturday, the film saw a modest rebound, collecting an estimated Rs 7.50 crore. This modest rise suggests some weekend momentum, although it is still short of initial expectations for a film of this scale and star power. Tamil Nadu occupancy brings hope The Tamil 2D occupancy on Saturday stood at 39.12%, offering some signs of engagement from local audiences. Chennai led the charge with 54.25% occupancy, peaking at 64% during night shows. Other regions like Madurai and Coimbatore hovered around 30–33%, with night show turnout improving slightly. Thug Life | Song - Vinveli Nayaga (Lyrical) IMAX 2D versions in Tamil also saw improved footfalls later in the day, with night shows reaching 48.23% occupancy. These figures suggest growing interest over the weekend, although still limited to specific urban pockets. Hindi belt yet to respond The film's performance in the Hindi-speaking belt remains underwhelming. With just 8.92% average occupancy on Saturday and morning shows starting as low as 3.94%, Thug Life faces a significant uphill battle to connect with the North Indian audience. Despite Kamal Haasan's pan-India appeal, the film's underwhelming reviews from the audiences has drastically affected it's box office performance all over. Sidhu Moosewala's father writes to Mumbai Police to stop the proposed screening of a documentary about his son on June 11
Bathinda: The father of slain Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moosewala has called on Mumbai Police to block the public screening of a BBC documentary about his son's murder, alleging it could compromise the ongoing trial and infringe upon the family's rights. Balkaur Singh, father of the late artist — whose real name was Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu — has filed formal complaints with the Mumbai Police commissioner and Juhu police station, urging authorities to stop the screening scheduled for June 11 at Soho House, Juhu. The event, organised by the BBC World Service, is being advertised as an "investigative documentary" that claims to reveal hidden details about Moosewala's killing. Moosewala's father has also expressed concern that the film includes "unauthorised and unpublished" material, including private testimonies and sensitive information related to his son's life and death. He writes in his complaint that the documentary uses Moosewala's name, image and personal history without family consent, and could prejudice the ongoing murder trial. "The screening could misrepresent and exploit my son's story, interfere with judicial proceedings, and provoke public unrest due to the sensitive subject matter," Balkaur Singh wrote, warning the public that the film might violate Indian legal protections on privacy, defamation, and posthumous dignity. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Discover Effortless Glucose Monitoring: Request a Free Trial Dexcom Click Here Undo Enclosing a copy of the invitation, Balkaur Singh said the screening was set to run from 3 to 6 pm on June 11, and called for police intervention, including the deployment of officers at the venue and the issuance of prohibitory orders under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) or other applicable laws. He also claimed to be preparing civil and legal action against the film's producers and organisers. However, he emphasised that immediate steps were needed to "safeguard the dignity and legacy" of his late son and prevent the circulation of "unlawful or defamatory content." Sidhu Moosewala was shot during May 2022 in Punjab's Mansa district. His killing triggered public outrage and remains the subject of a high-profile criminal investigation. MSID:: 121696740 413 |
