on Sunday reviewed the situation with senior officials at the State Disaster Control Room following the cloudburst incident at Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunotri road in Uttarkashi district.
Earlier today, he stated that State Disaster Response Forces (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other teams are actively engaged in relief and rescue operations at the landslide-hit Silai Band area in Uttarkashi district.
In a post on X, the CM wrote, "In the tragic incident of a landslide in the Silai Band area of Barkot Tehsil, Uttarkashi district, it has been reported that some workers are missing.
Teams including SDRF, NDRF, and others have reached the site and are engaged in intensive relief and rescue operations."
The CM further stated he was in constant contact with the concerned authorities. "I am in constant contact with the concerned authorities regarding this matter. I pray to God for everyone's safety," the post further read.
Meanwhile, as many as nine workers staying at an under-construction hotel site went missing after a cloudburst severely damaged the construction site at Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunotri Marg in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district.

Uttarkashi district magistrate Prashant Arya, while speaking to ANI, stated, "Due to a cloud burst in Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunotri Marg of Uttarkashi district, a hotel under construction has suffered heavy damage. Eighty-nine workers staying at this under-construction hotel site are missing."
"Eight-nine workers staying at this under-construction hotel site are missing," Arya stated, adding that the Yamunotri route has also been severely impacted.
He also informed that the Yamunotri Marg had also been affected by the heavy rainfall and debris.
Furthermore, the Char Dham Yatra has been suspended for 24 hours amid a heavy rain alert. Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey told that the pilgrimage has been temporarily halted as a precaution.
"I have given instructions to the police and administration officials to stop the pilgrims in Haridwar, Rishikesh, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Sonprayag and Vikasnagar," Pandey told.
The suspension follows the cloudburst at Silai Band and the ongoing heavy rainfall, which has disrupted travel.
Continuous rainfall on Saturday caused severe disruptions across Uttarakhand, including blockage of the National Highway near Nandprayag and Bhanerpani.
In a post on X, Chamoli Police Uttarakhand stated, "The Badrinath National Highway is blocked near Nandprayag and Bhanerpani. Work is underway to open the road."The National Highway near Nandprayag is a critical route for pilgrims travelling to Kedarnath, making the clearance of the road a priority.

Prof. Rakesh Mohan Joshi, Vice Chancellor, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi, observed that 'despite many Indian facilities having international approvals like those of the FDA,' differences in standards, limited mutual recognition agreements, and high compliance costs continue to hamper India's export potential. Dr Omkar Rai, Ex-Executive Chairman Startup Odisha, Government of Odisha, stressed the need to boost India's innovation ecosystem, particularly in electronics and digital sectors. He noted that fragmented value chains and dependence on foreign standards undermine competitiveness, calling for stronger domestic certification frameworks. Indian community in Trinidad &Tobago enthusiastic about PM Modi's upcoming visit: MEA Secy
New Delhi [India], June 30 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Trinidad and Tobago on a two-day visit from July 3 as part of his multi-country eight-day-long tour that begins this Wednesday and will include visits to Ghana, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia. Addressing a special media briefing in the national capital on Monday, Secretary (South) in the Ministry of External Affairs Neena Malhotra, said that the entire indian community in the Carribbean country was 'very enthusiastic' about PM Modi's upcoming visit. 'PM Modi will be undertaking an official visit to Trinidad and Tobago from July 3-4 at the invitation of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. This marks the first visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to T&T, or Trinidad and Tobago, as Prime Minister, and is the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to T&T since 1999,' Malhotra said. During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will hold talks with the President of Trinidad and Tobago, Christine Carla Kangaloo, and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to further strengthen bilateral ties. The Prime Minister will also address a Joint Session of the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago. MEA Secretary, Neena Malhotra, highlighted the significance of the visit, stating, 'The visit comes at an opportune time, as this year, in 2025, the country is commemorating 180 years of the arrival of Indian immigrants to Trinidad and Tobago.' On May 30, 1845, the first ship 'Fatel Razack' carrying 225 Indian indentured workers reached the shores of Trinidad, then a British colony. Their numbers increased with subsequent arrival of more ships from India till 1917. The descendants of those indentured workers, now in their fifth or sixth generation, form nearly 40 per cent to 45 per cent of the total population of 1.36 million of the country. The presence of a substantial population of Indian-origin (the largest ethnic group) has contributed immensely to close bilateral relations between the two countries. India established bilateral relations with Trinidad and Tobago on August 31, 1962. In today's special briefing, MEA Secretary Malhotra also noted the shared Indian heritage between the two countries, mentioning that both the Trinidad and Tobago PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar and President Christine Carla Kangaloo are of Indian origin, women, and lawyers, who take pride in their Indian roots and describe themselves as 'daughters of India.' She said, 'I'm told that currently both the President and Prime Minister are of Indian origin, incidentally, both are women, both are lawyers, and both have a deep sense of pride in their Indian roots and heritage, and describe themselves as daughters of India...' 'The entire Indian community in Trinidad and Tobago is very enthusiastic about the upcoming visit of PM Modi, and a large diaspora interaction event is being planned during the visit,' the MEA Secretary said. During his visit, PM Modi will hold high-level discussions with both the President and the Prime Minister, and the leaders are expected to cover the entire gamut of our bilateral relations, as well as regional and multilateral aspects. The Trinidad and Tobago PM will also host a dinner for PM Modi. 'India's development partnership with Trinidad and Tobago is robust and diverse. It includes capacity-building initiatives, grant-based projects, and health care initiatives,' the MEA Secretary said. 'Both sides are now seeking to expand and diversify our cooperation into emerging areas, such as pharmaceuticals, tertiary care, renewable energy, digital public infrastructure, agriculture, and disaster resilience, in addition to innovation and technology,' she said. India and Trinidad and Tobago will also continue to focus on 'sports, academic, and cultural cooperation. A set of bilateral documents in different areas of cooperation is expected to be signed,' said Malhotra 'In a special gesture, PM Modi will also address the joint session of the Parliament of Tindad and Tobago. The visit is expected to strengthen the bilateral partnership across key areas,' the MEA official said. Trinidad and Tobago President Christine Carla Kangaloo had attended through video conferencing the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) in Bhubaneswar as the Chief Guest, and delivered an address on the occasion. She was conferred with Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA) at the National Day Reception organized by the High Commission of India in Trinidad and Tobago Mission on January 26 this year. During her address at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, Kangaloo emphasised the deep-rooted ties between India and Trinidad and Tobago and highlighted that India was among the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Trinidad and Tobago after its independence in 1962. Brazil keen on defence collaboration with India, interested in Akash Air defence system, Garuda artillery guns: MEA
New Delhi [India], June 30 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday highlighted that Brazil has expressed significant interest in India's defence capabilities, particularly in securing communication systems, offshore patrol vessels, the Akash Air Defence system and the Garuda Artillery Gun as part of defence collaboration between the two nations. During a special briefing by the MEA ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's five-nation visit to Ghana, Trinidad & Tobago, Argentina, Brazil and Namibia, starting July 2, The Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (East) P Kumaran detailed Brazil's keenness to explore joint research, technology sharing, and training exchanges with India. He noted that the South American nation has also proposed joint ventures and co-development in the manufacturing defence industries. 'There will be a discussion on defence cooperation with Brazil. They are looking at avenues for joint research, technology sharing, and training exchanges... Broadly, we have a few areas that seem to be of interest to the Brazilian side. They are interested in secure communication systems on the battlefield. They are also interested in offshore patrol vessels. They also have Scorpne submarines and are interested in maintaining those submarines,' the MEA Secretary said. 'They are also interested in the Akash Air Defence system, coastal surveillance systems, and Garuda artillery guns. They are also interested in manufacturing defence industries in a joint venture with us and joint R&D and co-development systems,' he added. The indigenously developed Akash surface-to-air missile air defence system has played a crucial role in thwarting Pakistani drone attacks targeting Indian assets during the period of heightened tensions between the two nations following the Pahalgam terror Attack and India's response through Operation Sindoor. The Indian Army during the intervening night of May 8 and May 9 has successfully repelled and responded to multiple drone attacks by Pakistan along the western border and the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. The Akash air defence missile system is a medium-range, surface-to-air missile system that provides area air defence against multiple air threats to mobile, semi-mobile, and static vulnerable forces and areas. The system has cutting-edge features and cross-country mobility. In addition to defence, nuclear cooperation is also on the agenda, with both countries aiming to transition to greener energy sources. 'On nuclear cooperation, there is interest, as both countries want to move away towards greener sources of energy,' Kumaran noted. Prime Minister Modi will visit Brazil during the fourth leg of his five-nation tour from July 5 to July 8 to attend the 17th BRICS Summit 2025, followed by a state visit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The 17th BRICS Leaders' Summit will be held in Rio de Janeiro. During the summit, the Prime Minister will exchange views on key global issues, including reform of global governance, peace and security, strengthening multilateralism, responsible use of artificial intelligence, climate action, global health, and economic and financial matters. PM Modi will also hold bilateral discussions with President Lula in Brasilia on expanding the Strategic Partnership between the two countries in areas of mutual interest, including trade, defence, energy, space, technology, agriculture, health, and people-to-people linkages, as per a statement by the Prime Minister's Office. Meanwhile, MEA Secretary for Economic Relations Dammu Ravi provided insights into the leaders' declaration expected during the BRICS summit, expressing his confidence that there will be a leaders' declaration following the summit. 'The leaders' declaration has been in the making for quite some time. The negotiations have been taking place at the Sherpa and the Sous-Sherpa levels for almost six months now, and all the deliberations at the ministerial level and working group level have gotten into it. We're very confident that we'll be able to have a declaration, and that's India's constructive role, and all the members understand that it's important to have the leaders' declaration because that's also a success of not just the host but all the BRICS members also need to reflect that sentiment,' Ravi said. PM Modi will embark on a five-nation visit from July 2, during which he will attend the BRICS Summit in Brazil and hold meetings with leaders of Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina and Namibia to strengthen bilateral ties.
