Texans only have one unsigned 2025 draft pick after beginning of OTAs
One player remains unsigned for the Houston Texans entering Week 2 of organized team activities.
With wide receiver Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel locked up on four-year rookie contracts, all eyes turn to second-round pick Aireontae Ersery as the last rookie to agree to terms ahead of the 2025 season. Conversations have been continuing between the two sides and a deal is expected to be completed soon, though nothing is set in stone entering Tuesday's practice.
The Texans believe Ersery can be the long-term replacement for five-time Pro Bowler Laremy Tunsil. Houston loved his tape coming out of Minnesota so much, it was reported that it tried to trade up with the New England Patriots at No. 38 to acquire him.
The All-Big Ten offensive lineman landed at No. 48 after Houston traded two picks with the Las Vegas Raiders on Day 2. Following Higgins' four-year, fully guaranteed deal at $11.7 million, most second-round picks remain unsigned, trying to work out the details of a contract.
Higgins, Houston's first pick in the 2025 draft, became the first Day 2 player in league history to receive a fully guaranteed contract. Only Cleveland Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger and Higgins remain signed entering June among the second-round selections.
It'll get done eventually between the Rams and Ferguson, but it might take someone drafted ahead of Ferguson to sign a non-fully guaranteed contract to get the ball rolling. Until then, we'll likely wait a little while longer.

Sky legend Candace Parker honored with 2nd WNBA jersey retirement
The post Sky legend Candace Parker honored with 2nd WNBA jersey retirement appeared first on ClutchPoints. Former Chicago Sky player Candace Parker has already cemented her legacy as one of the greatest players in WNBA history. The Sky also announced they will retire Parker's No. 3 jersey this season. Advertisement They will hold the ceremony during their game against the Las Vegas Aces at Wintrust Arena on August 25, 2025. Parker's jersey will be the first number the Sky retire, highlighting her profound impact on the franchise. Earlier this year, the Los Angeles Sparks announced they will retire Parker's iconic No. 3 jersey on June 29, 2025, at Arena. This event will take place during their game against the Sky. Parker will become the third player in Sparks history to receive this honor, following Lisa Leslie and Penny Toler. Parker spent 13 seasons with the Sparks after they selected her No. 1 overall in the 2008 WNBA Draft. She joined the team just one day after she won her second NCAA title with the Tennessee Lady Volunteers. Advertisement She immediately showed why she was the No. 1 pick. In her WNBA debut, Parker delivered a double-double with 34 points and 12 rebounds as the Sparks defeated the Phoenix Mercury. Her 34 points set the rookie record for the most points in a debut, and that record still stands today. Parker collected numerous accolades during her career. She earned Rookie of the Year, two MVP awards, seven All-Star selections, 10 All-WNBA selections, an All-Star Game MVP, and a Defensive Player of the Year award. Remarkably, she remains the only player in WNBA history to win Rookie of the Year and MVP in the same season. Her crowning moment with the Sparks came in 2016. That year, she led the team to its first championship in over a decade and claimed Finals MVP honors. In 2021, Parker left the Sparks to play closer to home with the Chicago Sky. She helped the Sky win their first WNBA championship that season. After finishing sixth in the regular season, the Sky knocked out the Dallas Wings and Minnesota Lynx. Advertisement They then upset the top-seeded Connecticut Sun in the semifinals. In the Finals, Parker and the Sky defeated the Phoenix Mercury in four games to secure the title. In 2023, Parker signed with the Las Vegas Aces and added a third WNBA championship to her resume. She later announced her retirement, ending one of the most remarkable careers in league history. Candace Parker's journey reshaped the WNBA. As a rookie, a champion, and a league icon, she set the standard for leadership on and off the court. As she steps away, she leaves a legacy of excellence that will inspire generations to come.

Phillies Acquire Pirates' Bryan Reynolds in Trade Idea
Phillies Acquire Pirates' Bryan Reynolds in Trade Idea originally appeared on Athlon Sports. As the MLB trade deadline inches closer, the Philadelphia Phillies may have a chance to land a key piece for their playoff push. Tim Kelly of On Pattison recently proposed a trade idea that's gaining attention: Philadelphia should pick up the phone and call the Pittsburgh Pirates about outfielder Bryan Reynolds. Advertisement The timing for such a deal might be right. According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Pirates are open for business on nearly every player not named Paul Skenes or Oneil Cruz. 'Two intriguing players,' Nightengale noted, 'are third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes and outfielder Bryan Reynolds.' Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images Reynolds, a two-time All-Star, is off to a slow start this season, now in year three of an eight-year, $106 million contract. But his ceiling remains high, and a change of scenery could unlock his best form again. For the Phillies, he'd be a clear upgrade in left field, where Max Kepler, set to become a free agent this winter, is currently playing. Beyond the fit, the need is clear. After last season's early playoff exit, which saw one of the best offenses in baseball suddenly go quiet, the Phillies know they cannot rely on regular-season success alone. Despite a strong year, they won just one postseason game in 2024, setting the stage for a must-win season in 2025. Advertisement Tuesday night's win over the Toronto Blue Jays helped them bounce back from a modest four-game losing streak, and Bryce Harper's return ignited the offense. But if Philadelphia wants to avoid another October letdown, reinforcing their lineup now—possibly with Reynolds—could prove essential. Reynolds is slashing .234/.302/.372 with seven home runs and 34 RBIs. While not impressive numbers, a change of scenery from the league's 26th-ranked offense, according to FanGraphs, could do him wonders. Reynolds is also a switch-hitter, giving Philadelphia further lineup flexibility and a player who can slot in all three outfield positions. Whether it be replacing Kepler in left or taking over sole possession of center field from Brandon Marsh and Johan Rojas, Reynolds may be just what the Phillies need to secure their first World Series championship since 2008. Pirates rookie Mike Burrows shuts down Astros to pick up first major league win in 3-0 victory
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh's Mike Burrows held Houston in check into the sixth inning to pick up the first victory of his career as the Pirates topped the Astros 3-0 on Wednesday night. Burrows (1-1), whose rise through the Pirates system was slowed by Tommy John surgery in 2023, allowed five hits and struck out six in 5 1/3 innings. The 25-year-old right-hander took a significant step forward after giving up eight runs in 8 1/3 innings across his first two starts. David Bednar worked the ninth for his seventh save. Oneil Cruz and Spencer Horwitz had two hits apiece for Pittsburgh, which snapped a two-game skid. Andrew McCutchen and Isiah Kiner-Falefa both drove in runs against Houston starter Ryan Gusto (3-3) in the second inning to give Burrows all the offense he would need. Jeremy Peña had two of Houston's seven hits as the Astros lost for just the third time in their last 10 games. Gusto, who has split time between the bullpen and the starting rotation, labored through 4 1/3 innings. He needed 83 pitches to record 13 outs and was pulled with two on and one out in the fifth. Gusto allowed three runs on eight hits, with two walks and three strikeouts. The right-hander is 0-2 with an 8.22 ERA in his last six appearances. Key moment Houston's biggest threat came in the sixth when a double by Pena and a walk to Jose Altuve put two on with one out. Pirates reliever Chase Shugart retired the next two hitters, with third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes making a nice play on a grounder by Yainer Diaz to end the threat. Key stat 11-13: Pittsburgh's record since Don Kelly replaced Derek Shelton as manager on May 8. Up next The interleague series wraps up on Thursday. Framber Valdez (5-4, 3.12 ERA) gets the start for Houston against Pittsburgh veteran Mitch Keller (1-7, 3.73). ___ AP MLB:
