Dixon Historic Theatre announces $100,000 anonymous donation
Apr. 28—DIXON — The Dixon: Historic Theatre has received a $100,000 anonymous donation to use for facility enhancements and programming, according to an announcement made Thursday, April 24, by the theater's board.
There have been a lot of changes at the theater during the last two months, from reopening March 2 after a $1.5 million restoration project to firing former executive director Darren Mangler and filling the role with Spencer Aurand, former business manager at Dixon Stage Left, on April 8.
Since 2019, when the new board — the Historic Dixon Theatre Group — took over the theater, donations and grant funds have been crucial to keeping it up and running, according to a news release.

"This extraordinary gift will allow us to continue improving the facilities, expanding our programming, and supporting our goal of greater sustainability," Aurand said in the announcement. "The donor has given their blessing to release this information in hopes of sparking additional gifts to advance this community mission."
"While the donor has requested to remain anonymous, we are deeply grateful for their generosity and belief in our mission. It is support like this that lets us know we are on a good path in advancing the cultural and economic benefits the theater can provide our community," Theater Board Chairman Mike Venier said.
The major renovations — which included repairing the roof, ceiling and other structural work — are complete, but some cosmetic changes are still in the works. Free public tours of the theater are being offered starting at 10 a.m. every Saturday.
"Come join us to see how things are progressing," the announcement said.
Upcoming shows at the theater include "Larger than Life," a boy band tribute from 7-9 p.m. May 1; the movie "Spaceballs" from 7:30-9:30 p.m. May 2; and "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" from 7:30-9:30 p.m. May 3.

Though Pullman grew up living in both Los Angeles and Montana, his family largely kept him away from the entertainment industry. Pullman has opened up about how his father tried to keep his work as an actor away from their family's life at home, and how he didn't watch much TV growing up. Instead, his family focused on music and the arts, with Pullman eventually discovering acting in high school. 'My dad kept his career very separate so that we could have a somewhat normal upbringing,' Pullman said in a January 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter. 'There was always an element of mystery behind his career. We were a very creative family, everyone is in the arts to some degree, but we weren't allowed to watch TV.' Las Vegas Strip Sphere sets popular band's final residency shows
Some of the most popular classic rock bands in music have occupied the stage at Sphere Entertainment's (SPHR) Sphere Las Vegas, and two huge bands, U2 and The Eagles, have scheduled some of the longest residencies in the venue's short existence. Iconic rock band U2 opened the Sphere on Sept. 29, 2023, with its U2/UV Achtung Baby Live at the Sphere residency, which ran for 40 shows and ended on March 2, 2024. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter The Eagles added the final 2025 shows of their 44-show residency at Sphere Las Vegas with eight shows in October and November, but the band could still return to the spectacular venue in 2026. The Eagles, however, won't have the record for the most shows performed at Sphere unless they add more shows to their residency in 2026. Classic jam band Dead & Company launched its Dead Forever residency on May 16, 2024, finishing its 30-show residency run on Aug. 10, 2024. The band extended the residency for 18 more shows, scheduled for March 20 to May 17, 2025, and broke U2's record for most shows at the Sphere on April 26, 2025, when they performed their 41st show of their residency. Dead & Company will continue to hold the record for most shows after they complete the extension of their residency for a total of 48 shows. The band's record will likely last at least into 2026, when The Eagles could overtake Dead & Company's record of performances at Sphere Las Vegas, if they add more shows to their 44-show now, legendary superstar 1990s boy band The Backstreet Boys has signed on for the final shows of its "Into the Millennium" residency at Sphere Las Vegas in July and August 2025. The boy band's popularity grew in 1999 with their third album "Millennium," which debuted at No. 1 and sold 24 million copies with its massive hit single "I Want It That Way." The band released its new album "Millennium 2.0" on July 11, 2025, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original "Millennium" album. See Star Wars, E.T. and other nostalgic blockbusters at Uptown's oldest theatre
Carolina Theatre is paying tribute to the years it was dark with a film series, screening nostalgic blockbusters from the era following its closure.
