ED Summons Dino Morea Again, To Be Questioned In Rs 65 Crore Mithi River Scam Case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Bollywood actor Dino Morea once again for another round of questioning in connection with the Rs 65-crore Mithi River desilting money laundering case. The actor, who was recently seen in The Royals, has been asked to appear before the agency to record his statement. As reported by the Free Press Journal, besides Dino, his brother, Santino Morea, has also been summoned by ED. More details are awaited.
The summons come days after ED conducted a nearly 14-hour-long search at Dino Morea's Bandra residence. Apart from the actor's Mumbai residence, ED also carried out simultaneous search operations at 14 other locations across Mumbai and Kochi. Dino's brother's houses and the premises of contractors and middlemen were also searched by the ED. The investigation is being conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Previously, Dino Morea was also questioned by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police in connection with the scam. According to EOW sources and as quoted in the Free Press Journal, the actor was called in for questioning after investigators found several phone calls between him, his brother Santino Morea, and key accused Ketan Kadam. The content and purpose of these calls are now being examined.
During the investigation, EOW found that ₹18 lakh was transferred to UBO Ridez, a company where Santino Morea- brother of Bollywood actor Dino Morea – serves as a director. According to police officials, the funds were transferred by Ketan Kadam, one of the prime accused in the case. 'We are investigating the reason for the transfer of funds from Ketan Kadam's account to UBO Ridez," an officer from the EOW told The Times Of India.
Ketan Kadam is associated with Vodar India LLP and was arrested earlier this year for his alleged involvement in the scam related to the desilting of the Mithi River. Investigators noted that both Vodar India LLP and UBO Ridez- an electric cart company- operated out of the same address near Famous Studio in Worli, Mumbai.

The Mithi River desilting scam involves alleged financial misconduct in renting silt pusher machines and dredging equipment by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). This ₹65 crore scam is under investigation by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police. According to the EOW, contractors and BMC officials conspired to inflate equipment rental costs, resulting in a wrongful loss to the government and public. The investigation has led to the arrest of several individuals, including contractors and intermediaries.

Delhi man held for duping woman of Rs 29 lakh
NEW DELHI: A 44-year-old man was arrested for allegedly cheating a woman of Rs 29 lakh on the pretext of an online investment scheme, police said on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Chothmal Saini, revealed that he was running a school at a loss since the Covid period and provided bank accounts to fraudsters on a commission basis. According to the complaint, the woman was introduced to a part-time online job through a social media platform. Initially, she deposited money into multiple bank accounts given by the fraudsters. Equivalent amounts were shown as credited on a fake trading website, which encouraged her to continue investing. She invested Rs 29 lakh, and her 'profits' grew to crores. However, when she tried to withdraw the earnings, she was denied and realised she had been duped. 'Raids were conducted in Sikar and Jaipur. One mobile phone used by the fraudster was recovered,' said DCP (Southwest) Amit Goel, adding that other accused have been identified and efforts are underway to arrest them.

Cyber scammers swindle Rs 50 crore with claims of suspicious crypto activity; woman among 8 arrested in Mohali
A call centre fraud where people were allegedly cheated out of nearly Rs 50 crore was busted in Punjab's Mohali with the arrest of eight people, including a woman, during a raid at an illegal call centre, the police said on Wednesday. DSP Rupinder Kaur Sohi, in charge of the Cyber Crime and Forensic Wing, said the illegal call centre operating from a flat at Eden Court Society in Sector 91 had been functioning for the past six months, working in day and night shifts and luring people into fraudulent cryptocurrency-related schemes. According to DSP Sohi, the gang used a new method of fraud wherein they sent mass messages to people from across the country, claiming that money was being deducted from their accounts in suspicious cryptocurrency activity. The victims were then provided with a contact number to 'resolve' the issue. Once contact was made, the fraudsters impersonated officials and used fear tactics similar to 'digital arrest' scams, claiming that illegal cryptocurrency transactions had occurred from the victim's account. The victims were then tricked into transferring money under the pretext of securing their accounts. The police recovered 12 laptops, 14 mobile phones, and 1 Scorpio SUV from the arrested accused, who belong to Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, and Himachal Pradesh. They were reportedly paid in cash to avoid leaving any financial trail. The police are looking for the absconding kingpin of the gang. They hope to arrest him soon based on leads emerging from the interrogation of the other accused. The police have registered an FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 318(4) (cheating) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) as well as section 66 D of the Information Technology Act at Mohali's Cyber Crime Police Station. The accused will be further questioned to determine the full extent of their operations, whether they have committed similar frauds in other cities, and whether more people were involved, said DSP Rupinder Kaur Sohi.

The journey from legacy practices and outdated weaponry to cutting-edge technology and tactical readiness marks a defining period in UP Police's history Union Home Minister Amit Shah has credited the Yogi Adityanath-led government with transforming the Uttar Pradesh Police, stating that the true phase of modernisation for the country's largest and one of its oldest police forces began only after 2017. In the last eight years, the UP Police has witnessed five major advancements that officials describe as turning points in its history. Speaking to News18, former Director General of Police OP Singh—who served from January 23, 2018, to January 31, 2020—described this period as the 'golden phase" that laid the foundation for the force's journey toward comprehensive modernisation. What did Shah say? Addressing a grand appointment letter distribution ceremony recently in Lucknow—where over 60,000 newly recruited constables were inducted—Shah remarked that while police reforms at the national level began under Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, they were not visible in Uttar Pradesh during the previous regime. 'It was only after 2017, when Yogi Adityanath took charge, that the modernization of the UP Police truly started," Shah said. His remarks came amid the largest-ever direct recruitment campaign in UP Police history, signaling a symbolic and practical milestone in the force's transformation. The Wake-Up Call: Missing Guns & Obsolete Rifles The journey from legacy practices and outdated weaponry to cutting-edge technology and tactical readiness marks a defining period in UP Police's history. The push to modernise began in earnest following a scathing 2017 Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) audit, which found that over 45,000 handguns were missing from UP Police's stock. The audit also noted that obsolete .303 rifles, long discarded by the Indian Army, were still being used across police stations. These revelations, along with a changing law-and-order environment, sparked a state-wide overhaul. One of the first visible signs of transformation emerged in Ayodhya in 2021–22. As the temple town prepared for Ram Mandir construction and massive religious gatherings, the police deployed over 10,000 CCTV cameras, supported by drones and anti-drone systems. Ayodhya became a pilot zone for high-tech crowd management, behaviour analytics, and real-time surveillance, giving UP Police a digital edge in sensitive deployments. Budget Boost for Arms & Radios Officials with the UP Police said the 2023–24 fiscal year brought a decisive equipment upgrade. The Yogi government sanctioned Rs 96 crore to enhance weaponry and communication networks. This included 5,600 9mm pistols, 2,000 lightweight 5.56mm rifles, and nearly four lakh cartridges. Simultaneously, Rs 3.7 crore was invested in advanced radio systems for better coordination in communally sensitive and high-alert zones like Ayodhya. Body-worn cameras—500 of them—were also procured at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore, increasing transparency in public-facing operations. Counter-Blast Preparedness In September 2024, the state moved to upgrade its Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS). With an allocation of Rs 5.87 crore, the force acquired 11 advanced bomb suits (Rs 42 lakh per unit) and five remote de-armour disruptors. These additions allow special teams to defuse explosive threats at public events and VIP locations without endangering personnel, marking a significant upgrade in UP's counter-terror preparedness. Historic Weaponisation Drive: Rs 83 Crore in 3 Days Between March 29 and 31, 2025, the UP government launched India's biggest-ever police weaponisation drive. Orders worth Rs 83.77 crore were placed to procure 3,000 9mm pistols, 4,000 5.56mm carbines, 405 assault rifles, 300 sub-machine guns, 20 combat shotguns, and 300 pump-action guns. Sniper teams and elite units such as the STF and SSF also received thermal weapon sights, suppressors, and extended magazines—ensuring every district is now equipped with modern, combat-grade firearms. The AI Leap In a futuristic move, the UP Police in May–June 2025 sanctioned Rs 3 crore for an Artificial Intelligence-based Criminal Data Creation and Retrieval System. Modelled after successful implementations in Telangana, the system will include facial recognition, voice analysis, and behavioural tracking to instantly generate criminal profiles. Four firms have been shortlisted to develop the tool, which will first be piloted by the STF. Once implemented, it will greatly enhance investigative efficiency and crime prevention. 'Golden Phase' Speaking to News18, Singh—who assumed charge on January 23, 2018, after Sulkhan Singh—called the post-2017 phase 'the most transformative era in the history of UP Police." Singh, a 1983-batch IPS officer, credited a massive Rs 6,500 crore jump in the police budget during his tenure, raising it from Rs 18,000 crore to Rs 24,500 crore within a single year. 'This was the first time we had both political will and financial muscle to act," Singh said. Over 22,000 recruits were inducted and, for the first time, trained alongside paramilitary forces to bring in a professional work culture. During his term, 4,200 new police vehicles were purchased, improving patrol efficiency and response time across the state. He also stressed upon the need for mindset transformation within the force. 'Modernisation isn't just about arms or cameras—it's about a shift in police ethics, training, and professionalism," Singh said.
