Four escape migrant detention center in Newark, N.J., authorities say
Four detainees have escaped from an immigration detention facility in Newark, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
The detainees escaped from Delaney Hall, a privately run New Jersey detention facility that local elected officials have sought to close since before it began receiving detainees in May. 'Additional law enforcement partners have been brought in to find these escapees,' DHS said.
Delaney Hall was the scene of a disturbance Thursday as demonstrators protesting conditions in the facility were facing off with law enforcement officers, according to an immigration advocate present who provided a video of the scene to The Washington Post.
Amy Torres, executive director of advocacy group New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice, said she went to the facility after her group received reports on their hotline of a lunchtime fight breaking out and inmates not receiving adequate food.
Torres she was aware of reports of escapees but did not see them while she was there Thursday.
The department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Delaney Hall has been a center of controversy in recent weeks. Newark Mayor Ras Baraka (D) was arrested and charged with trespassing in May after he tried to visit the facility, which he has tried to shut down. This month, Baraka sued President Donald Trump's interim U.S. attorney for New Jersey, claiming that the arrest was politically motivated.

Liman dismissed Baldoni's entire lawsuit – which also alleged extortion and other claims – but allowed him to amend and refile a couple of allegations regarding interference with contracts.' Lively's lawyers shared the following statement regarding the 'total victory' for the situation: 'Today's opinion is a total victory and a complete vindication for Blake Lively, along with those that Justin Baldoni and the Wayfarer Parties dragged into their retaliatory lawsuit, including Ryan Reynolds, Leslie Sloane and The New York Times,' the statement begins. 'As we have said from day one, this '$400 million' lawsuit was a sham, and the Court saw right through it. We look forward to the next round, which is seeking attorneys' fees, treble damages and punitive damages against Baldoni, Sarowitz, Nathan, and the other Wayfarer Parties who perpetrated this abusive litigation.' The legal protection allowed the judge to make this ruling is known as 'the litigation privilege,' which the outlet explains 'immunizes legal claims from defamation actions.' Other privileges mentioned as having an impact on this ruling include the 'fair report' privilege. Justin Baldoni accused Reynolds in the suit for having called him a 'sexual predator,' thus the defamation, but the judge noted that this comment was based on Lively's version of the events, and because he did not have a reason to doubt them, believed it was okay. He additionally applied the same logic to Lively's publicist, Leslie Sloane. Now Lively's complaint against Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios is being scheduled to take place in March 2026. Thousands gather in Eugene for No Kings Day rally and march

Thousands of people gathered outside of the Wayne Lyman Morse United States Courthouse in downtown Eugene on June 14 as part of a nationwide "No Kings: Nationwide Day of Defiance." Just before noon Saturday, Eugene police sent an advisory that crowds and traffic congestion were making travel difficult near Eighth Avenue and Mill Street. The protest was a counter to President Donald Trump's 79th birthday and a related military parade celebrating the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary in Washington, D.C. "I'd like to welcome you to the big, beautiful resistance," organizers said at the rally. Indivisible Eugene Springfield, a progressive activist group, partnered with 50501 and other local organizations to plan the protest. On its website, the group said the Trump administration "defied our courts, deported Americans, disappeared people off the streets, attacked our civil rights, and slashed our services." Protest attendees Johnny and Dee Dee, who declined to provide their last names, said they felt empowered by joining the protest. "Fascism has taken over," Johnny, a resident of Cottage Grove, said. "It gets worse by the week." "I think it's a good idea to show up and show how many of us are opposed to what's going on, and to Trump and what his Republican cronies are doing," said Dee Dee. "It's good to see all of these people who feel like we do. It makes us feel a little less helpless," Johnny said. Johnny, a Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War, expressed dismay at Trump's treatment of the military and U.S. servicemembers. "Captain Bonespurs, one day he says he loves the veterans and the next he says what fools we are," Johnny said. "This guy thinks he's a king and he admires strong men, dictators, he wants to be friends with them, he wants to be friends with our worst enemies." Melinda McLaughlin, a spokesperson for Eugene Police Department, said the department tracks protests, marches and other gatherings. "We monitor the marches and rallies to protect the marchers and also the general public, diverting traffic as necessary to provide safe access to the marchers and vehicular traffic within the city of Eugene," McLaughlin said. She said the organizers of "No Kings" march contacted EPD to plan a peaceful, safe and legal event while exercising free speech. "In general, Eugene police's response during large-scale public events is dictated by the behaviors of those involved and not on the content of their messages. The goal is always to facilitate people's constitutional rights to free speech, regardless of content, and support their ability to peacefully protest and demonstrate," McLaughlin said prior to the protest and march. The military celebration coincided with Flag Day, which celebrates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the U.S. flag. The Army did not label the taxpayer-funded parade a birthday celebration for Trump, however, plans to add a parade to the years-long celebration began in earnest last month. Trump has over the years expressed his desire for a large parade and called the cost of the massive $30-million-plus affair on June 14 "peanuts." Man Fatally Shot in Dallas Home, Suspect Arrested for Murder
A man was shot and killed Friday morning at a home on East Shore Circle in Dallas, according to police. The suspect — described as someone known to the victim — was taken into custody and will face murder charges. The deadly encounter marks another homicide in the city as violent crime continues to afflict Dallas neighborhoods. Authorities have not released a motive for the shooting or specified the relationship between the two individuals involved. Officers responded to the 1800 block of East Shore Circle at approximately 10:15 a.m. on June 13 after receiving reports of gunfire. Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel arrived but were unable to save the victim, who died at the scene. The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
