Hull City investigate video allegedly showing captain Lewie Coyle in confrontation

ITV News06-05-2025

Hull City have launched an investigation after a video emerged allegedly showing captain Lewie Coyle involved in a confrontation in the city centre.
The club said it was looking into an "incident" after being made aware of the video circulating on social media on Sunday.
The footage appears to show Coyle, 29, topless and being ushered across a road. His brother Rocco, 18, who plays for the Tigers' academy, appears to be in the video.
Coyle, 29, played in Hull's last game of the season - a 1-1 draw at Portsmouth - the previous day, as Hull avoided relegation from the Championship.
The club said in a statement it would "refrain from making any further comment until the investigation has been concluded".
The announcement came as Coyle's older brother, ex-professional boxer Tommy Coyle, 35, said he was the victim of a "vicious, unprovoked assault" in the city centre.
A separate video circulating on social media allegedly showed Tommy Coyle being attacked in a pub on Sunday.
In a statement on Tuesday he said: "It is very sad that I cannot share an evening out with my brothers without attracting this sort of attention.
"I spent the day in hospital yesterday being checked over and fortunately there is no lasting damage."
Humberside Police said a 39-year-old man had been charged with public disorder following reports of an "altercation" in the Empress pub on Sunday.

Wrexham keeper Okonkwo looks forward to the Championship

The former Arsenal goalkeeper was a key component in the Reds gaining promotion from League One, boasting the second best defensive record behind champions Birmingham City. Wrexham will line up with the big-spending Blues, in addition to the likes of Leicester City, Southampton and Ipswich Town - all relegated from the Premier League - when the new campaign kicks-off in August. Looking ahead to the season, Okonkwo told Amanpour and Company: 'I said the same thing last year. For me, it doesn't make sense to hope for 10th or 12th. I'm always going to have that mentality that we're going to go for promotion. 'But, yeah, I think everyone should be positive and we're going to try and go for it again. 'Obviously, this year, it's much more challenging, but it just doesn't make sense in my mind to think about finishing in the middle when there's so much higher you can aim for.' Since making the move to The Racecourse, Okonkwo has been part of two promotion-winning sides. On loan from Arsenal in 2023-24, Okonkwo was a real fan favourite between the sticks as Wrexham finished as runners-up to Stockport County in League Two. Fast forward to the League One campaign and despite suffering a broken wrist, Okonkwo still managed 34 league appearances as the Reds made it back-to-back-to-back promotions. The forthcoming campaign will be Wrexham's first in the second tier for more than four decades - and it is a new division for Okonkwo. 'It's hard to prepare for a league I've never played in before,' he stressed. 'But, the most I can do is, obviously, increase my training this summer, to make sure I'm physically ready. 'That's the most important thing and then, yeah, you know, the manager will have plans in place on how we can achieve big things this season and what we need to do, and taking those things on board. 'I think the biggest thing is adaptation, being able to adapt from League One up to the Championship, because it's a huge shift and I think, you know, with the manager, the players he brings in, the players we have, I have full confidence going into next season.'

Chris Wilder's future as Sheffield United manager in doubt before board meeting

Chris Wilder's future as Sheffield United manager is in doubt, with the club's American owners set to discuss his position at a board meeting. It is thought the recruitment strategy has been a significant factor in pushing Wilder's future towards a crossroads. The US-based consortium COH Sports, led by Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy, completed a takeover last December. The 57-year-old, in his second spell in charge of his boyhood club, led United to the Championship playoff final last month, which they lost to Sunderland, after missing out on automatic promotion. United are keen to press ahead with more 'data-driven' recruitment, which includes the use of artificial intelligence. This week United signed the Nigerian winger Ehije Ukaki from the Bulgarian club Botev Plovdiv, a move made by the winger Christian Nwachukwu, 19, in January. In the same window United signed Jefferson Cáceres, 22, from the Peruvian club FBC Melgar but neither Nwachukwu nor Caceres has made a first-team appearance. The Blades are one of several Championship clubs searching for a manager, with Middlesbrough, Queens Park Rangers and Bristol City also seeking to fill vacancies. Alan Shearer predicts the club Viktor Gyokeres will join

Alan Shearer has predicted which club Viktor Gyokeres will join after holding talks with Manchester United and Arsenal. Gyokeres is expected to be the subject of a big-money move this summer after another superb season at Sporting Lisbon. The 27-year-old scored 54 goals in all competitions – more than a goal a game – as Sporting clinched the Portuguese league title. That followed the 43 goals he scored during his first season at Sporting after being signed from Championship side Coventry City in 2023. Manchester United emerged as the frontrunners to sign Gyokeres following Ruben Amorim's move from Sporting to Old Trafford in November. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. Amorim is keen to sign a new No. 9 this summer following Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirzkee's disappointing seasons and enjoyed working with Gyokeres. Failing to qualify for the Champions League harmed United's chances of signing the Sweden international but they still intend to win the transfer race. They will, however, have to see off competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal to secure a deal for Gyokeres. The Gunners held talks with Gyokeres' representatives earlier this week and are lining up their first official bid after Mikel Arteta instructed the club to bolster his attacking options. Arsenal have also been linked with Benjamin Sesko and may be forced to focus on the RB Leipzig forward as Shearer expects Gyokeres to end up at Manchester United. Gyokeres could become Amorim's third signing of the summer following Matheus Cunha – who has made a £62.5m move from Wolves – and Bryan Mbeumo, who is in talks over joining from Brentford. Discussing the state of play at Old Trafford, Shearer told Betfair: 'Bruno Fernandes was the only plus point for Manchester United last season – God knows where they would have been without him. 'They've got Matheus Cunha in and we're going to see a big turnover of players in the next two months at United. They have to get a number of players out, and to do that they have to get a number of players in for that club to have a refresh. 'It's been so bad for so long, but everything came together in a bad way which they didn't want to see this season for Man United. It's a huge pre-season for them in terms of who they're getting in and out. 'The Bryan Mbeumo transfer isn't done yet and I know that other clubs were in for him including Newcastle. Whether Spurs try to hijack that if they get Thomas Frank in, which it seems that'll be the case. 'On Viktor Gyokeres, I'm not surprised at all if they get him because of his work with Sporting and Ruben Amorim before, I think that was always going to be the case. More Trending 'They're not in Europe this year, they're not in the Champions League and they're going to have to pay huge wages to get the players and tempt them away from other clubs that are going to be interested in them.' Gyokeres was thought to be available for around £58m earlier in the year but Sporting Lisbon say offers closer to his release clause of £84m will be needed to prise him away from the Portuguese champions. 'Threats, blackmail and insults don't work with me,' Sporting president Frederico Varandas said. 'I can guarantee that Viktor Gyokeres will not leave for 60+10 million because I never promised him that. 'This game that the agent is playing only makes the situation worse. [Are there offers for 60 million?] To this day, Sporting has not had an offer for Viktor Gyokeres, neither today nor last season.' For more stories like this, check our sport page.
