Eco (Atlantic) Oil & Gas Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Joins African Energy Week (AEW) 2025 Amidst Push to Unlock Orange Basin Potential

Zawyaa day ago

Gil Holzman, President and CEO of independent oil and gas exploration company Eco (Atlantic) Oil&Gas, has confirmed his participation as a speaker at the upcoming African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energies conference, scheduled to take place from September 29 to October 3, 2025, in Cape Town. As an independent with strategic assets in Namibia and South Africa, Eco (Atlantic) Oil&Gas' Holzman is well-positioned to shape discussions around the opportunities within the African oil and gas sector.
Eco (Atlantic) Oil&Gas is accelerating exploration across several key assets in the Orange Basin, one of the world's most promising exploration frontiers located offshore South Africa and Namibia. In June 2025, the company secured the exploration right and transfer of 75% interest in Block 1. The milestone follows an announcement made in May 2025 that the company acquired 2D and 3D seismic data for Block 1 offshore South Africa to support a future drilling campaign.
The block - where wells drilled in the 1980s indicated high-quality, commercial-scale oil and gas deposits - became part of Eco (Atlantic) Oil&Gas' portfolio in June 2024 through the acquisition of a 75% working interest from Orange Basin Oil and Gas. According to Eco (Atlantic) Oil&Gas, the acquisition of the block is a testament to the firm's commitment to unlock the vast hydrocarbon potential of the Orange Basin to drive a just and inclusive energy transition for the region. Meanwhile, Eco (Atlantic) Oil&Gas is also planning an intensive drilling program in South Africa's Block 3B/4B, having raised CAD$11.5 million via a farm out deal in the block in January 2025. Eco (Atlantic) Oil&Gas holds a 5.25% carried interest in the block.
In Namibia, Eco (Atlantic) Oil&Gas continues to advance exploration activities across four Petroleum Exploration Licenses - PEL 97, 98, 99 and 100 - while actively seeking farm-out partners to increase funding and technical expertise. The company holds operatorship and an 85% interest in each PEL, which represent a combined total area of 28,593 km2 in the Walvis Basin. As a frontier basin, Walvis holds immense opportunities for play-opening discoveries. Holzman's participation at AEW: Invest in African Energies 2025 provides a strategic opportunity to engage potential investors and collaborators to fast-track these developments.
'Eco (Atlantic) Oil&Gas is bullish about unlocking one of the world's most prolific basins, the Orange Basin. The company's commitment, investments and technical capabilities are vital to securing energy independence for South Africa, Namibia and the broader southern African region on the back of oil and gas exploitation,' stated Tomás Gerbasio, Vice President of Commercial and Strategic Engagement at the African Energy Chamber.
At AEW: Invest in African Energies, Holzman will participate in high-level discussions and showcase Eco Atlantic's project pipeline, reaffirming the company's commitment to Africa's energy future. Holzman will join leading stakeholders to discuss how African oil and gas reserves - estimated at 125 billion barrels of oil and 620 trillion cubic feet of gas - can serve as critical enablers of energy access, industrialization and economic transformation across the continent. With over 600 million Africans lacking electricity and 900 million without access to clean cooking, hydrocarbons are vital for bridging the continent's energy gap.

Iraq's OEC set to implement 30 oil projects as part of 5-year plan: Report

Iraqi government-owned Oil Exploration Company (OEC) expects to implement more than 30 projects as part of its five-year plan, a news report said. The most prominent projects are in the Western Habbaniyah, close to Baghdad, in Anbar Governorate, and south of Al-Faka in Maysan Governorate, Al-Sabaah, an Arabic newspaper reported, citing OEC Director General Dr. Osama Raouf Hussein. Two other important projects are located in Nineveh, near Mosul, the report said. More than 200 formations have not yet been explored or drilled, Hussein said, adding that these promising reserves will translate into oil or gas after exploratory drilling operations. The company is undertaking seismic surveys, with potentially 50 geophysical investigations taking place after the data is processed to determine exploration locations, the official said. The Western Desert is among the most promising gas regions, Hussein said. OEC will work on several projects in the coming years, with 90 percent of these being gas-related, the report stated. Cabinda Refinery Eyes 2025 Start, Joins Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) 2025 as Bronze Sponsor

The Cabinda Refinery plans to start phase one operations in 2025, with a capacity of 30,000 barrels per day (bpd). Developed by investment company Gemcorp, the refinery will be the country's second operational refining facility once completed. As the facility prepares to start production, Cabinda Refinery has joined the Angola Oil&Gas (AOG) conference – taking place September 3-4 in Luanda – as a Bronze Sponsor. AOG 2025 represents the premier platform for the country's oil and gas industry and Cabinda Refinery's sponsorship reflects its broader commitment to enhancing Angolan crude processing and distribution. The Cabinda Refinery seeks to reduce Angolan fuel imports by increasing domestic refining capacity, with a goal to achieve 445,000 bpd in the coming years. With the start of operations at the Cabinda Refinery, the country will achieve 22% of this goal by the end of 2025. Cabinda Refinery's sponsorship at AOG 2025 will support discussions around Angola's downstream project pipeline. AOG is the largest oil and gas event in Angola. Taking place with the full support of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas; the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency; the Petroleum Derivatives Regulatory Institute; national oil company Sonangol; and the African Energy Chamber; the event is a platform to sign deals and advance Angola's oil and gas industry. To sponsor or participate as a delegate, please contact sales@ The first phase of the Cabinda Refinery – at a cost of $473 million – will produce naphtha, jet fuel, diesel and heavy fuel oil, with the Naphtha and heavy fuel oil destined for exports. This first phase will supply approximately 10% of the country's domestic fuel demand, with a planned second phase set to double capacity to 60,000 bpd. Engineering works for the second phase will commence once the first phase is operational. The first phase of the refinery was backed by funding provided by multilateral finance institutions Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) and African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), with financial close reached in 2023. Additional financing was provided by the Fund for Export Development in Africa – the impact investment subsidiary of the Afreximbank. Of the total $473 million investment, $138 million represented equity from project sponsors while the remaining $335 million was mobilized through the AFC-led facility. As the largest event of its kind in the country, AOG 2025 will connect global investors and project developers with Angolan opportunities. Cabinda Refinery's sponsorship will not only open doors to discussions on financing downstream projects, but unlock new opportunities for financing by international institutions. With two additional refining facilities – namely, the 200,000 bpd Lobito Refinery and 150,000 bpd Soyo Refinery – seeking capital, AOG 2025 will facilitate engagement and deal-signing among industry stakeholders. South Africa electronic deeds registration system modernises property registration

Launched on 1 April this year, the South African electronic deeds registration system (eDRS) be rolled out in a phased approach over the next five years, modernising property registration in the country and improving turnaround times. The goal is to move away from manual processes and replace them with digital systems for preparing, lodging, registering, and storing deeds. In a world where AI is already transforming the real estate market, from automated facilities management to drawing architectural plans, the industry's heavy reliance on mountains of paperwork to conclude transactions was in dire need of an overhaul. Digital and AI revolution 'The digital and AI revolution is set to transform the industry – and the eDRS will be a core part of that shift,' says Michael Lenz, CEO of bridging funding platform TransBridj. 'The eDRS platform and other technology-driven solutions will disrupt the industry for the better. In the future, we can look forward to significantly reduced property transfer turnaround times in South Africa, with fewer errors. And until those processes are streamlined, players like TransBridj are working to stay ahead of legal and technological changes to empower investors navigating the evolving market landscape. Digital transformation advantage The undeniable competitive advantages of digital transformation include faster speed, better accuracy, and fewer hassles. In the case of the eDRS, the system is expected to improve the security of records and enhance the accuracy of the registration process, expediting transactions. Practitioners will also be able to lodge deeds from anywhere in the country, and an online portal will make registered deeds information and documents readily available. Reduced turnaround times Lenz, believes the new system will lead to reduced turnaround times and improved accuracy. 'The property sector was historically reluctant to adopt new technologies, but that's changing rapidly. 'Today, embracing digital transformation is not an option - it's integral to delivering faster, more reliable property transactions. 'The eDRS is a strategic opportunity for all parties in the sector – from sellers to attorneys and realtors - to capitalise on time-sensitive deals with greater confidence.' Navigating its growth phase During the phased roll-out, technology-driven platforms are already perfectly positioned to start delivering those results while the national system navigates its growth phase. TransBridj, for example, is a fintech platform redefining bridging funding through automation and seamless digital integration. Built for attorneys, sellers, and realtors, it eliminates manual processes, leveraging smart technology to accelerate deal closures, ensure instant fee settlements, and unlock liquidity. 'We've created an intuitive AI-driven interface that can deliver approvals and disbursements within 24 hours of the transaction being accepted. Realtors can also access up to 80% of their commission before registration. This approach not only streamlines applications but also reduces admin and minimises the risk of error,' explains Lenz.
