Police search for alleged driver involved in deadly hit-and-run in Canoga Park
The Los Angeles Police Department is searching for the alleged driver who killed a man during a hit-and-run in Canoga Park Friday morning.
Police said they received calls around 1:15 a.m. about a pedestrian who was hit by a car near the intersection of Sherman Way and Independence Avenue.

They believe the pedestrian was outside of the crosswalk when he was hit by the driver traveling eastbound on Sherman Way.
The driver fled the scene in a Mercedes. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by members of the LA Fire Department.
Police do not have a description of the driver and are continuing to investigate the incident.

A 999 call from a woman who a man allegedly posing as an "unofficial Uber" driver attempted to rape has been played in court. Graham Head, of Pevensey in East Sussex, is alleged to have had latex gloves, condoms, Viagra tablets and a balaclava in his silver Mercedes when he was arrested in November 2022. The 68-year-old is accused of kidnapping, sexually assaulting and attempting to rape a 25-year-old woman after picking her up in Brighton city centre. The woman died in December 2024. He denies the charges, stating that he offered the woman a lift home but did not touch her, jurors at Lewes Crown Court were told. The court heard that in a 999 call made by the woman, she told the operator: "A man put me to sleep. I don't know what he did. I woke up. He had gloves on. I need some help. This man is clearly doing this to people. "I'm confused, I'm really confused. "He was pulling my trousers down and then I kicked him and he's driven off. "He had a mask on and he had plastic gloves on his hands. He said he was an Uber, he said he was going to drive me home. I didn't order one and I was reluctant." The woman remembered part of a number plate and Mr Head was arrested minutes later after a police pursuit through Hove, the court was told. According to the prosecution, in a police interview, the woman said Mr Head told her he was finishing his shift and would drive her home. "I tried to sit in the front and he said I couldn't. I closed the window and fell asleep. I was fading in and out of consciousness and becoming aware I had been in the car for a really long time," she said. "He kept stopping the car and was groping me. He got into the back and he had these rubber gloves. I was so out of it, I thought maybe this guy is going to chop me into pieces." Mr Head is also accused of assaulting 19-year-old woman he picked up near Hove Park, which he denies. The trial continues. 19-year-old late to job interview drives 130 mph, outruns trooper, CT police say
A 19-year-old driving 132 mph outran a state trooper on a Connecticut highway, then later explained that he was late to a job interview, police said. The Cromwell resident, who was driving a relative's car, has been charged with nine offenses, Connecticut State Police said in a June 4 news release. Cromwell is about a 15-mile drive south from Hartford. Information on the 19-year-old's legal representation wasn't immediately available. When the state trooper noticed a speeding Mercedes in Cromwell along Interstate 91 shortly before 9 a.m. June 4, they switched on their emergency lights and went to pull the driver over, according to police. However, the driver, later identified as the 19-year-old, sped away from the trooper 'while making unsafe lane changes and weaving in and out of traffic,' police said. He led the trooper on a chase until the trooper stopped the pursuit because of the danger to other drivers, according to authorities. State police learned the Mercedes was owned by the 19-year-old's family member, who said their relative was driving the morning of June 4, police said. The relative's tip led troopers to find the 19-year-old's phone number the same day, according to authorities. After giving him a call, police said he mentioned his job interview as the reason he outran a trooper. Survivor of vicsious downtown L.A. machete attack speaks out
A trained and dedicated chef in Los Angeles who survived a gruesome and violent attack by a machete-wielding suspect, who had just killed another victim, is speaking out about the terrifying ordeal. The violence unfolded in the early morning hours of June 1, with the Los Angeles Police Department responding to reports of an attack near11th Street and South Grand Avenue downtown. At that scene, police located a victim suffering severe injuries from the attack. Only described as man in his 60's, the victim was rushed to the hospital where he later died. While detectives were on the scene investigating, reports of another machete attack, in the area of Broadway Street and Olympic Boulevard, came in. Police rushed to the second location and a man now identified as Kyle Levitt. Levitt told KTLA's Rick Chambers that he had been walking home from his job at a restaurant and was in the process of unlocking the building doors to his downtown L.A. apartment building when the attacker struck. 'By the time I looked up and saw the reflection in the door, I noticed a man running up behind me,' he explained. 'I put my arms up to say stop and that's when he hit me again.' Levitt sustained multiple serious injuries to his head, requiring staples, a blow to his right wrist that nearly severed his hand. 'My tendons were cut completely down to the bone. My artery was cut, and he was over me at this point and that is the first time that I'd seen that he had the knife in his hand,' he said. HIs attacker never spoke to him but had what Levitt described as 'crazy eyes,' making him think the man was going to swing the machete at him again. 'He sort of stopped in that moment and registered, for whatever reason, that it was over and he ran away.' Someone inside the apartment building heard Levitt's banging on the door and came to his aid. He was rushed to the hospital where he has since undergone numerous surgeries to reconnect his tendons and save his hand. He didn't learn until later that just minutes before, less than a mile away, another man had been fatally attacked by the suspect. 'It was just this set of circumstances in which I was the lucky one,' Levitt said. During an intensive downtown manhunt for the suspect, police located and arrested him. They also recovered the machete believed to be used in the two attacks. So far, authorities have not released the identities of the suspect or the victim who was killed.
