Pubs hit by crime wave of smashed toilets, broken windows and graffiti

Pubs and a takeaway have been plagued by a spate of time wasters and vandals, leaving them out of pocket and inconvenienced by damage to repair. In one incident a hoaxer placed a £60 fake food order at a small family-run restaurant and takeaway.
The man ordered four brunches from SuRano, an Indian vegan business in Lilac Crescent, Beeston Rylands. The order, placed through the Foodhub website, was for four brunches, consisting of two aloo paratha, yogurt, homemade carrot pickle and a cup of masala chai plus four parathas, yogurt and pickle.
Owner Rano Samra said: "It was to pay on delivery, which we do many times a week. But this time when I arrived at the address it was for a Chinese takeaway. Something didn't seem right so I phoned the number on the order.

"He answered the phone and when I said I had a delivery for him he hung up on me. From then on I tried a few more times but he refused to answer. At this point I realised it was a prank."
Rano said she had no idea why her business was targeted. The unwanted food was distributed to a family in need and staff.
"The order was to the value of £60. For a small business like ours this is a big financial loss for us. In addition there is the cost of driving ten miles there and back.
"In future I will have to take payment upfront before preparing the food. Until now this has never happened and it had not occurred to me to insist on payment in advance," she said.
The incident is one of a number of time and money-wasting setbacks suffered by hospitality businesses over the last few days. The Fox & Crown in Old Basford was targeted by vandals in the early hours on January 22.
The front of the pub in Church Street was sprayed in different colours, while a mural at the side was ruined by graffiti and will need to be repainted. The owner said they were "sad and angry" and have reported the damage to the police.
A thief used a boulder to smash a window at micropub Mist Rolling Inn, in Derby Road, Nottingham. The pub was broken into at around 4.30am on Tuesday, January 21. Mobile phones and bottles of spirits were stolen.
Owner David Hawyes said replacement glass was an "expense I can't afford". He added: "I feel sorry for them [whoever broke in] that they need to steal to make money for whatever purposes in the first place.
"But have they really considered the ongoing effects? Because not only does it put a hole in my window but it could potentially destroy a business and people's jobs."
In another incident, over the border in Derbyshire, both the ladies and gents toilets were smashed at the White Lion pub in Derby Road, Sandiacre. Photos of the damage were posted on the pub's Facebook page with the message: "And why do we bother? Seven weeks after the refurb! To keep a nice pub, to offer all that we do for the community for mindless idiots to come in to trash both the ladies and men's toilets."

Italian Yacht Builder Ferretti Is Involved in an Espionage Case

International intrigue at one of the world's largest yacht builders? The Italian Ferretti Group was the setting for a spy-vs-spy scenario that reportedly included private detectives shadowing an executive of the Italian builder's primary Chinese investor and recording devices hidden in several offices, according to Bloomberg. The discovery of this board-level surveillance has prompted two criminal cases, now in the hands of Italian prosecutors. In April 2024, Xu Xinyu, an executive director at Ferretti SpA, noticed two men in an SUV outside Ferretti's headquarters in Milan. Xu also sits on the board of the Weichai Group, which acquired the Ferretti Group in 2102, when the builder of Riva Yachts, Custom Line, CRN, and other brands was in financial trouble. More from Robb Report Say Hello to Robb Report en Español, the New Benchmark for Global Luxury in Spanish A Luxe Midcentury Duplex in London's Mayfair Just Listed for $25 Million Red Sox Legend David Ortiz's Former Miami Mansion Lists for $11.5 Million Xu also observed the pair following him while visiting hotels in the city, Bloomberg reported. He hired a counter-surveillance company, which reportedly found a listening device and signal amplifier hidden in his office. Other devices were found in the offices of Ferretti's Chinese-Italian translator and board secretary. The story cites unnamed sources who claimed relations between Weichai and some executives at Ferretti had deteriorated because of a proposed stock buyback program that would have allowed the repurchase of 10 percent of the shares. The buyback plan was briefly examined by the Italian government under a special 'golden' provision that allows it to oversee 'strategic' Italian brands with foreign ownership. A very small percentage of Ferretti's boat production is for the defense sector, thereby placing it in the strategic category. The Chinese members of the Ferretti board, comprised of six Chinese and three Italians, were initially against the buyback proposal, according to the sources. That decision, according to Bloomberg, caused dissension between Ferretti CEO Alberto Galassi and some members of the board. In March 2024, Galassi formally notified the Italian oversight committee of the buyback initiative. But that was earlier than the Chinese directors had expected. Bloomberg's sources say they thought the Chinese board members worried that Galassi could be using 'the golden share rule to sideline them by seeking allies in the Italian government.' The stock buyback proposal was withdrawn by the end of the month. Ferretti issued a statement denying that Galassi had gone against the board's wishes, according to Bloomberg. It said the notification 'was carried out with the formal and definitive approval of the Board of Directors.' The statement went on to say that 'the relationship between the shareholders and the company is excellent, marked by ongoing collaboration and mutual respect.' Ferretti did not immediately respond to Robb Report's request for comment. Following the discovery of the surveillance on Xu and others, some of the board members reportedly suspected it might have originated with Ferretti's upper management. Xu initiated a criminal case against 'persons unknown' in May 2024, for unauthorized access to a computer system and unlawful interference in private life. In January 2025, following an internal investigation, the Ferretti Group filed its own complaint with the Milan prosecutor's office. 'Ferretti SpA considers itself an aggrieved party, having been wronged by the unlawful and improper installation of surveillance devices within its offices,' the statement said. Ferretti says there is no tension between it and Weichai. 'The shareholder and the company have enjoyed a relationship of mutual esteem and full, constructive collaboration for over 10 years,' the brand said in a statement to Bloomberg. The cases remain in the initial stages of investigation, with no certainty that any criminal charges will be pursued. Missing Bride Surrenders to Police and Is Arrested After Allegedly Murdering Her Husband on Their Honeymoon

On Monday, June 9, Sonam Raghuvanshi, 25, allegedly surrendered to police in India after going missing while on her honeymoon Her husband, Raja Raghuvansh, 30, had been found dead in a gorge in Meghalaya on June 2 Sonam — who married Raja on May 11 — is accused of hiring people to kill him, with police suspecting she was having an affair, per local news outlet Hindustan Times An Indian newlywed has been arrested after her husband was found dead during their honeymoon. Sonam Raghuvanshi, 25, allegedly surrendered at a police station in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district on Monday, June 9. Police accuse her of hiring people to kill her husband, Raja Raghuvansh, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, the BBC and local outlet Hindustan Times reported. Sonam married Raja, 30, on May 11 at a ceremony in Indore, which was blessed by both families, according to the BBC. However, the couple went missing four days after they arrived in Meghalaya for their honeymoon. A week later amid a search for them, Raja's decompoing body was found in a gorge with his throat slit and his wallet, a gold ring, and a chain missing, the BBC noted. Sonam's family then launched a campaign that included a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that police were not doing enough to find Sonam or Raja's killers. Business owner Sahil Yadav told local news outlet Times of India that Sonam arrived at his restaurant Kashi Dhaba on foot at around 1 a.m. local time on Sunday. "She asked for a mobile to talk to her brother and then started crying,' Yadav said, per the outlet. Within 30 minutes of her brother asking for her location, police arrived at the scene. Three other suspects from the couple's home state, Madhya Pradesh, have also been arrested in overnight raids, the BBC reported, citing Director General of Meghalaya police Idashisha Nongrang. "One person was picked up from Uttar Pradesh and another two accused were apprehended from Indore. Sonam surrendered at the Nandganj police station and was subsequently arrested,' Nongrang said, according to the outlet. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said in a post on X that police are searching for another suspect amid their investigation. 'Within 7 days a major breakthrough has been achieved by the #meghalayapolice in the Raja murder case...3 assailants who are from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, female has surrendered and operation still on to catch 1 more assailant .. well done #meghalayapolice.' In a press conference shared on X by the news agency ANI, Minister Alexander Laloo Hek argued that the police and government had been unfairly criticized amid their investigation into the case. "The truth has come out," he added. While police have alleged the men arrested were paid to murder him at Sonam's request, the alleged motive for Raja's death has not been revealed, Times of India reported. Raja's brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, said that one of the men arrested amid the police's investigation worked in Sonam's office. "Only Sonam can clarify," he said, per BBC. "If she's guilty, she should be punished." Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Sign up for for breaking crime news, ongoing trial coverage and details of intriguing unsolved cases. Despite having not yet spoken to Sonam, her father Devi Singh maintains that she is 'innocent' and told the BBC that he believes she 'somehow managed to escape her captors.' He has accused the Meghalaya police of "making up stories" and is appealing for Home Minister Amit Shah to order a federal inquiry into the case, according to the outlet. 'My appeal to the government is to get a CBI inquiry done. Meghalaya Police is lying,' Singh said, as reported by the Hindustan Times. 'They did not do any inquiry. I am 100% sure that Meghalaya Police is involved in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi. I have not spoken to the family of Raja Raghuvanshi. 'Sonam and Raja did not know each other before marriage. It was an arranged marriage. I have not been able to speak to my daughter,' he continued. 'Only my son, Govind, spoke to Sonam. Meghalaya Police is trying to trap Sonam in this case. If CBI inquiry is done, officials of the Police Station in Meghalaya will be behind bars.' There has been speculation that Sonam was having an affair, The Hindustan Times reported, citing Vivek Syiem, superintendent of police. According to the outlet, Syiem said, 'It is a fact that she called up her relatives, but all this happened after the raids were conducted. If you look at it logically, all these days she hadn't come out, but last night, when Raj Kushwaha and others were caught, suddenly she surfaced. That speaks for itself.' "The first person arrested is a 19-year-old Akash Rajput, from Lalitpur. The second accused is Vishal Singh Chauhan, age 22 years, from Indore, and the third is Raj Singh Kushwaha, age 21 years, from Indore,' Syiem added. PEOPLE has reached out to the Nandganj police station and Meghalaya police for further information, but did not immediately hear back. Read the original article on People
