IND vs AUS: 'He must fix his attitude'- Australia's World Cup hero warns Shubman Gill before Edgbaston Test

Former Australian wicketkeeper-batter
Brad Haddin
has called for India's new Test captain
Shubman Gill
to make an "attitude adjustment" following India's five-wicket loss to England in the first Test match of the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy 2025 at Headingley.
The defeat, which came despite India having five centurions in the match, was largely attributed to poor fielding performance, where the team dropped eight catches across two innings, allowing England to successfully chase down a target of 371 runs.

India's fielding lapses proved particularly costly in the case of England opener Ben Duckett, who was dropped in both innings and went on to score 211 runs in the match, including a match-winning 149 in the fourth innings.
Duckett's performance earned him the Player of the Match award and helped England take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

"Every great team, no matter what year you're playing, the one standout feature they've always had is that they've been a great fielding team. And I think that is one legacy Gill has start to leave now on this team. He needs an attitude adjustment," Haddin said while speaking on the Willow Talk podcast.
The former Australian keeper also pointed to potential issues stemming from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, suggesting a connection between the tournament and the declining catching standards.
Quiz:
Who's that IPL player?
"If you want to field well and compete the whole time, it's only attitude. You can do all your technical work off the field and have as many coaches as anyone, but it won't matter. Even in the IPL this year, the catching was horrible.
And that could be a byproduct," Haddin added.
The Indian team's fielding performance overshadowed their batting display, where they managed to post competitive totals in both innings. The pace attack, despite having spearhead
Jasprit Bumrah
, struggled to make an impact and was further hampered by the dropped catches.
Team India is now preparing for the second Test match scheduled to take place at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham from July 2-6, 2025.
The team will need to address their fielding concerns to level the series.
England has announced their squad for the second Test, with Ben Stokes continuing as captain. The squad includes key players like
Jofra Archer
, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, and Chris Woakes, among others, as they look to build on their advantage in the series.

Another Josh Hazlewood Fifer Demolishes West Indies In 1st Test

Last Updated: Australia's pace attack, led by Josh Hazlewood's 5-43, dismantled West Indies for 141, securing a 159-run victory in the first Test. Australia's renowned pace attack dismantled the West Indies' frail batting lineup, skittling the hosts for a mere 141 in 33.4 overs, thereby securing a comprehensive 159-run victory in the final over of the third day of the first Test at Kensington Oval on Friday. Josh Hazlewood was the primary destroyer, taking 5-43 as the tourists excelled with both bat and ball throughout the day. Half-centuries from Alex Carey, Beau Webster, and Travis Head were pivotal in recovering from 65-4 late on day two to a second-innings total of 310 by tea the following day. Shamar Joseph led the West Indies bowling effort, claiming five wickets for 87 runs, resulting in a match haul of 9-133. Any target exceeding 200 was always going to be challenging on this two-paced surface. As it turned out, the West Indies never rose to the occasion once former captain Kraigg Brathwaite fell to Mitchell Starc in the first over. Hazlewood then took the spotlight. His precise accuracy accounted for John Campbell and debutant Brandon King with successive balls, before also dismissing captain Roston Chase and Keacy Carty. Chase's Australian counterpart, Pat Cummins, removed first-innings top-scorer Shai Hope, and insult was added to considerable injury when substitute fielder Marnus Labuschagne ran out Alzarri Joseph with a direct hit from mid-off. Hazlewood returned to the attack to dismiss Jomel Warrican, but Shamar Joseph entertained with 44 off 22 balls before falling to off-spinner Nathan Lyon, who then removed Jayden Seales with his first ball to complete the victory with two days to spare. Justin Greaves remained unbeaten on 38. 'It was just about hitting the right areas time and time again and just being patient," said Hazlewood, explaining the tactics to exploit the challenging surface. 'There are a few cracks there on a good length and just short of a length, which kept the batters guessing whether to go forward or back with a few skidding through as we saw." Australia's intent was clear at the start of the day as Head and Webster transformed the previous evening's consolidation into controlled aggression, contributing to a 102-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Head was trapped lbw for 61 by Shamar Joseph 20 minutes before lunch. However, the first session's course could have been very different had Greaves held on to a straightforward catch at second slip off Alzarri Joseph when Head was on 22. This was the seventh chance missed by the West Indies slip cordon in the match, a poor display in a fundamental aspect of the game that began on day one when four catches were dropped. With a clear intent on aggression on a pitch becoming increasingly two-paced, the Australians progressed at almost a run-a-minute after lunch despite losing wickets at regular intervals. Carey, who top-scored with 65, built on the platform laid by Head and Webster (63), who fell caught behind off the persistent Shamar Joseph. The right-armer also dismissed Starc and wrapped up the innings when last man Hazlewood was bowled off the inside edge, securing his fourth five-wicket haul and third against Australia. By then, the task already seemed beyond the West Indies, which was confirmed two balls before stumps. (With AFP Inputs)

Will I ever play again? Rishabh Pant's surgeon recalls rehab process after accident

Rishabh Pant's surgeon, Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala recollected the rehabilitation made by the Indian wicketkeeper as he made a full recovery after being involved in a car accident. Pant was involved in the horrific incident in December 2022 while he was heading to his hometown from Delhi as his car hit a divider, leaving the wicketkeeper in a critical had his right knee dislocated along with many other injuries, which saw him be out of the game for around 16 months. Speaking to the Telegraph, Pardiwala said that Pant was extremely lucky to be alive and not lose the blood flow to his right leg, given the injuries he be in an accident like this, where the car actually overturns and blows up, the risk of death is extremely high," said Pardiwala "When your knee dislocates, and all the ligaments break, there's a high possibility of the nerve or the main blood vessel also being injured. If the blood vessel gets injured, you typically have about four to six hours to restore the blood supply."Otherwise, there's a risk of losing your limb. The fact that his blood vessel wasn't injured despite having a severe high-velocity knee dislocation was extremely lucky," said Pardiwala.'Am I ever going to play again?'Pardiwala said that the first question Pant had when he came to the hospital was,"Am I ever going to be able to play again?"The surgeon said that Pant needed a full reconstruction of the right knee given the extent of the injuries he had a lengthy discussion about the fact that these are grievous injuries – we would need to reconstruct the entire knee. Once we reconstruct the entire knee, we're going to have to then work through a whole process of letting it heal, letting it recover, then get back the basic functions – the range, the strength and the stability," said Pant was making progress after the surgery, Dr. Pardiwala was sceptical of his chances of making a comeback to the field. The surgeon said that he was keeping things straightforward with Pant and to take it one step at a time."Typically, when we reconstruct these patients they are happy just to get back to normal life. If they can walk and do some minimal amount of recreational sports, they're happy. I said: 'We can certainly make sure that he walks again. I'm going to try my best to make sure that we can get him back to playing again.' We didn't really want to offer him too much initially, but we did want to give him hope. So I said: 'We'll break it down into steps.' Step one, of course, has to be the surgery."'When we discussed it just after the surgery, the way I told him is the fact you're alive, the fact that your limbs survived – that's two miracles down. If we get you back to competitive cricket, that's going to be a third miracle. Let's just hope for everything, and then take it a step at a time," said magical return to the fieldadvertisementPant made his return to the cricket field in IPL 2024 and scored 446 runs in 13 matches. This earned him a call-up to India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad, which went on to win the title. Pant also made a fantastic return to the Test arena, where he became India's new vice-captain ahead of the England the first Test, Pant became only the second wicketkeeper to score twin centuries in a single game.- EndsMust Watch

Joy and agony for Marquez brothers at Dutch MotoGP

Marc Marquez extended his lead in the world championship standings winning the Dutch MotoGP on Sunday in a race where his closest pursuer and younger brother Alex Marquez suffered a left hand fracture. HT Image Marc Marquez came home on his Ducati ahead of Marco Bezzecchi with the winner's team-mate Francesco Bagnaia third. Marc Marquez's victory at the circuit known as the 'Cathedral of Speed' celebrating its 100th anniversary brought him level with legend Giacomo Agostini on 68 elite wins, still 21 adrift of Valentino Rossi. Marquez leads Alex by 68 points with Bagnaia 126 adrift after 10 of the 22 race season. Bagnaia got a superb start shooting straight past pole sitter Fabio Quartararo, the Frenchman's hopes of delivering Yamaha a victory on their 70th anniversary receding rapidly as he dropped down the field. At least he remained in the race, Japan's Ai Ogura's participation ended on the first lap as he was taken out by Miguel Oliveira. Marc Marquez moved into second on the second lap with British MotoGP winner Bezzecchi gliding into third. Marquez passed his teammate on the fifth lap but a lap later his sibling Alex Marquez caught a cropper as tussling with Pedro Acosta he came to grief. Alex Marquez jumped back to his feet but was gingerly holding his wrist as he was biked back to the pitlane and was taken to the medical centre for a check-up. An attritional race claimed two more riders as Joan Mir and Fermin Aldeguer suffered heavy crashes both consoling each other. Bagnaia's hopes of a fourth successive Assen win Australian icon Mick Doohan won five in a row 1994-98 was over by the 11th lap, as he dropped to fourth, passed by Bezzecchi and Acosta. Bezzecchi then turned his attention on Marquez's Ducati, ramping up the pressure on the leader. Marquez, though, responded like the champion he is in setting the fastest race lap at the halfway mark of the 26 lap race. Bagnaia regained a place on the podium passing Acosta, who eventually dropped off the pace settling for fourth spot. With three laps remaining Marquez held a lead of over a second on Bezzecchi and although the valiant Italian ate into it, the Spaniard had more than enough to spare to take the honours. Bezzecchi's delight was slightly tempered with a most unseemly fall on the lap of honour but his smile had returned by the time he greeted his Aprilia mechanics. The whole circus has a weekend off before they reunite for the German MotoGP in a fortnight. By the time they return to Assen next year there could well be a new kid on the block after an historic win in the Moto2 race. Diogo Moreira, 21, became the first Brazilian to take the chequered flag in that category and could well follow now retired five-time Grand Prix winner Alex Barros into the elite series. "I am super happy, the race was amazing, finally first victory," he said holding up the national flag. pi/nr Yamaha Motor This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.
