PHILADELPHIA — Max Kranick won't be back pitching for the Mets in the first half of the season, but the right-hander appears to have avoided a season-ending injury.
An MRI exam on Kranick's elbow revealed a flexor strain, according to Carlos Mendoza.

The reliever will be shut down from throwing for 3-4 weeks before he is evaluated for a possible build up.
Kranick, who underwent Tommy John surgery earlier in his career, was placed on the injured list this week with discomfort in the elbow.
He's pitched to a 3.65 ERA in 24 appearances this season.

'He's going to be down for quite a bit, but relatively good news here,' Mendoza said before the Mets ended their seven-game skid with an 11-4 win over the Phillies.
The Mets lost Tylor Megill to the IL with elbow inflammation earlier in the week.
Mendoza received positive reviews on Sean Manaea's rehab start for Triple-A Syracuse a night earlier.

The left-hander allowed one earned run over 5 ¹/₃ innings and struck out seven over 62 pitches.
'The breaking ball, especially, he threw a lot of strikes and he got swing and miss,' Mendoza said. 'It was pitch-efficient.'
Manaea is scheduled for a potential final rehab start Wednesday, after which he could join the Mets' rotation.

Manaea began the season on the injured list after an oblique strain sidelined him in spring training.
'He was kind of like the ace of our pitching staff last season and we re-signed him and then unfortunately he went down early in spring training,' Mendoza said. 'But especially where we are as a team and missing some guys and being able to get him back is going to be huge for our team.'
Ronny Mauricio received his first start at second base after playing mostly at third over the 2 ½ weeks since his recall from Syracuse.
Mendoza initially wanted Mauricio at third because that is where he felt the most comfortable.
'I feel like now we have gotten our eyes on him,' Mendoza said. 'The days he hasn't played, he's been working at second base. We know how good Brett [Baty] has been at third. Mauricio has been fine at third base too, but we felt today was the day [for the switch].'

Chris Devenski and Tyler Zuber were recalled from Syracuse to provide the Mets with fresh bullpen arms.
Blade Tidwell and Justin Garza were optioned.
Zuber, who arrived in a trade last summer, hadn't appeared in a major league game for the Mets entering Saturday.

Mets break 7-game losing streak with MLB record-tying 7 solo homers, 2 from Juan Soto, in win over Phillies

The New York Mets broke a streak and made some history against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. Facing a strong of seven straight losses, the Mets offense posted seven homers, all solo, in an 11-4 win to move back into a tie with Philadelphia at the top of the NL East. Their record is 46-31. Advertisement Those seven solo homers tied the Mets with six other teams for the most in a game in MLB history, per Sarah Langs. Only three of those teams hit only solo homers, like the Mets, who got long balls from Juan Soto twice, Brandon Nimmo twice, Francisco Lindor, Jared Young and Francisco Alvarez. Three of those came in consecutive fashion in the third inning. It was a big game for Soto in particular, going 4-for-5 with two runs and four RBI. It was his eighth career game with double-digit total bases, putting him in some elite company given his age. The Mets' skid entering Saturday was putting an abrupt end to what had been a dream start for a team with World Series aspirations. Behind the best-performing rotation in MLB, a 15-3 run in May and June gave them the best record in the NL. Then, consecutive sweeps at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays and Atlanta Braves. The Phillies series loomed as a possible turning point for New York, but it got off to a bad start Friday partially thanks to some entertaining baserunning from Philadelphia.

Three-Star Running Back Jamal Rule Puts Michigan State Football in His Top Four Ahead of His Commitment

Three-Star Running Back Jamal Rule Puts Michigan State Football in His Top Four Ahead of His Commitment originally appeared on Athlon Sports. June just keeps on giving to the Michigan State recruitment class of 2026, and the month isn't over yet. Advertisement A running back, who's set to visit East Lansing this weekend, has announced his final four schools he's considering committing to. Michigan State football head coach Jonathan King/Lansing State Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK Jamal Rule, a three-star running back from Charlotte Christian High School, became a late interest of the Spartans. Quickly, they set up an official visit with the rising senior to get him on campus during the last weekend of the OV season. Rule is the No. 776 overall recruit, No. 47 running back, and No. 33 student-athlete out of North Carolina. Though he was not on Michigan State's radar to begin with, the Spartans still made it into Rule's top four. Virginia Tech, Syracuse, and Nebraska are the other teams head coach Jonathan Smith is up against. Advertisement In Nov. 2024, Nebraska extended an offer to the running back and continued to prioritize Rule since. Syracuse and Virginia Tech were also early to give him an offer. Still though, Rule did not rule the Spartans out despite being late to join the party with their June 9 offer. He teased on X that his commitment date is approaching soon, though he does not have an official date set for his announcement. It's important for Smith to land Rule as the current class of 2026 recruits lacks a running back. This should be a priority for the Spartans, and if they aren't Rule's choice, it will force them to scramble for another recruit. However, three-star running backs won't be available forever. Soto and Nimmo lead power surge as Mets hit 7 solo shots and beat Phillies to snap 7-game skid

PHILADELPHIA -- Juan Soto and Brandon Nimmo each hit two home runs, and the New York Mets connected for seven solo shots to snap a seven-game losing streak with an 11-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night. Francisco Lindor, Jared Young and Francisco Alvarez also went deep for the Mets, who tied Philadelphia atop the NL East at 46-31. Lindor drove in three runs, and Soto finished with four hits and four RBIs. Alec Bohm had two hits and an RBI for the Phillies, who lost for just the second time in 10 games. Griffin Canning (7-3) pitched into the sixth inning, and relievers Huascar Brazobán, Ryne Stanek and Chris Devenski combined to blank Philadelphia over the final three frames. The Mets went ahead in the third when Lindor led off with the first of three consecutive homers off Mick Abel (2-1). After the switch-hitter broke an 0-for-20 skid with a drive to center field, Nimmo clubbed a curveball into the seats in right before Soto made it 4-3 with the first of his two shots. New York last homered in three straight at-bats on Oct. 4, 2022. New York went up by two in the fifth when Soto hammered an 84 mph curveball from Joe Ross a projected 437 feet into the second deck in right. Canning rebounded from two straight poor outings, in which he allowed 10 earned runs over 9 2/3 innings, by giving up four runs and six hits in five-plus innings. Abel lasted just three innings, allowing four runs and six hits. Nimmo's first homer, a one-out shot in the first, started the power barrage for the Mets following their recent struggles. New York had been swept in three-game series by Tampa Bay at home and at Atlanta before dropping Friday's series opener 10-2 to Philadelphia. New York has won 28 consecutive games in which Lindor has homered, a streak that started last July 9. That's one shy of the major league record — the Brooklyn Dodgers won 29 games in a row when Carl Furillo went deep from 1951-53. ... The Mets have hit seven homers in a game five times — four of them at Citizens Bank Park.
