UNAMI appreciates the government's launch of the National Strategic Plan for Iraqi Women
UNAMI appreciated the Iraqi government's serious support in launching the National Strategic Plan for Iraqi Women 2023-2030 on Tuesday.
"We are honored to extend our highest congratulations and blessings to the Iraqi people on the occasion of Iraqi Women's Day. The roles that Iraqi women have played and are playing and the sacrifices they have made throughout the ages," said the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq - UNAMI, Muhammed Al-Hassan in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
He added, "We do not miss the opportunity to emphasize the pivotal role of Iraqi women and their contributions to defending rights, promoting social justice, and preserving the cohesion of society," appreciating "the serious support provided by the Iraqi government in launching the National Strategic Plan for Iraqi Women 2023-2030, forming the Supreme Council for Women's Affairs and the Supreme Committee for Political Support for Women, and launching development and advancement programs for women in various sectors."
Al-Hassan called on the government and people of Iraq to "preserve and support the achievements and gains that have been made for the good and interest of Iraq," noting that "the Iraqi woman was and still is an honorable model for women around the world. We look forward to more participation in various sectors within the lofty and noble message of the role of women contributing to the stability, advancement, prosperity and development of Iraq."

EXCLUSIVE: Pentagon reaffirms Iraq withdrawal timeline
Shafaq News/ The US Department of Defense confirmed on Tuesday that the planned withdrawal of American forces from Iraq remains on schedule, with no changes or delays caused by recent political or regional developments. In an official response to Shafaq News, a Pentagon spokesperson stated, 'We are on track with what we reaffirmed in the September 2024 joint statement.' The spokesperson did not provide additional details regarding ongoing discussions. The Pentagon's remarks come amid continued talks between Baghdad and Washington within the US-Iraq Higher Military Commission. Established in 2023, the commission is tasked with overseeing the transition of US forces from combat operations to bilateral security cooperation focused on training and intelligence sharing. Currently, about 2,500 US troops remain in Iraq, stationed primarily at Ain al-Asad Air Base in al-Anbar and Harir Air Base in Erbil. They continue to provide logistical and operational support to Iraqi forces and engage in efforts to combat the remnants of ISIS. Iraq's parliament voted in early 2020 to set a timetable for ending foreign troop presence following the US assassination of Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi armed group leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis near Baghdad airport. Despite ongoing pressure from some Iraqi Shiite factions, the US insists any withdrawal will be fully coordinated with Baghdad to ensure stability and prevent a resurgence of terrorist threats.

Iraq to set up AI data center to support Arab countries
Baghdad ( – Iraq is working to establish an artificial intelligence center in Baghdad as part of a project serving Arab countries. The Prime Minister's Advisor for Artificial Intelligence Affairs, Diaa Al-Jumaili, revealed on Tuesday that the technical and organizational steps have already started and that a meeting with the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, will be held soon to finalize all of the discussions, as Iraq will be required to lay the groundwork for the center, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA). The step follows the approval of the Iraqi Prime Minister and Arab leaders during the Arab Summit held recently in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, according to Al-Jumaili. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) previously said that Iraq's digital transformation is critical to the country's digital business and artificial intelligence strategy. During his meeting last November with Deemah AlYahya, Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), Al-Sudani stressed that the government has included digital transformation into its economic and administrative reforms, as well as electronic payments. Al-Sudani emphasized the government's potential to make a big change in this area, as well as its willingness to collaborate with the DCO on initiatives that benefit Iraq and the region in the context of digital transformation and artificial intelligence. In March, Ali Al-Alaq, governor of the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI), disclosed that the government is working on a comprehensive digital transformation strategy. In a statement to INA, Al-Alaq highlighted that the government is following a plan aimed at transitioning to digital governance. He stated that Iraqi ministries would take a leading role since steps have already been taken, initiatives have been implemented, and a data center has been constructed.
