On Thursday, 1 May the Augrabies waterfall in the Augrabies Falls National Park recorded a stunning 3740 cumec metre per second as water cascaded down the 56 metre high drop.
By contrast, the 'normal flow' at the falls is usually between 30 and 50 cubic metres per second.
The recent rains over the country has resulted in more water being released from the Vaal and Gariep Dams, which caused the increase of the Orange River water levels from normal flow to the most recent 3740 cumec metres per second.

CAPE TOWN - The South African weather service has revised its yellow level 4 warning for disruptive rainfall in Cape Town to a yellow level 2. A powerful cut-off low system has hit parts of the country resulting in a cold front that may lead to snowfall in various provinces. The City of Cape Town's Disaster Risk Management centre has assured citizens that it remains on high alert. While temperatures have dropped significantly, the City has received no reports of major weather-related incidents but will be monitoring for further impact. "Thus far, no significant impacts have been reported to the disaster operations centre, although this situation might change as the day progresses," said spokesperson for the centre, Charlotte Powell. "The public is reminded to direct any requests for city services via the online platforms or the customer call centre on 0860 103 089."

SA Weather Service issues warning for severe thunderstorms
SOUTHERN parts of KZN are expected to experience severe thunderstorms from 1am Sunday until midnight on Monday (8 to 9 June). The South African weather service (SAWS) has issued a level 2 warning for isolated showers and thundershowers expected in southern KZN today (8 June), with conditions becoming scattered to widespread over most parts of the province tomorrow. ALSO READ: Life imprisonment for rapist of elderly woman Some of the areas expected to be hit are uMhlathuze, Mtubatuba, Hluhluwe, Ulundi and Nongoma. 'Some of these thunderstorms are expected to become severe along the south coast of KZN today and over most parts of KZN tomorrow,' said SAWS. The severe thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by heavy downpours leading to localised flooding, large hail or large amounts of small hail and damaging winds.' Impact include localised damage to infrastructure, settlements and mud-based houses; localised flooding of susceptible roads and bridges; minor motor vehicle accidents due to slippery roads and poor visibility; and difficult driving conditions on dirt roads. Snow fell across several regions of South Africa this morning as a powerful winter storm moves across the country, confirming forecasts of one of the most widespread snow events in years. Pretoria Rekord reports that snow blanketed high-lying areas of the Western Cape, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape and Lesotho on this morning, as temperatures plunged and eager snow chasers flooded social media with photos of the winter spectacle. The heaviest snow is still to come — with over 50cm expected in places like Barkly East and Afri Ski by tomorrow. Vox Weather's Michelle du Plessis says the system will intensify as it develops into a cut-off low, dragging freezing levels lower and setting the stage for heavy snow over mountain ranges, including the Drakensberg, Southern Lesotho and parts of KZN, where the deepest accumulations are expected. With social media buzzing among snow hunters eager to see the snow, forecasters warn that travel conditions could become hazardous, especially on mountain passes and rural roads. Authorities urge South Africans to prepare for widespread frost, strong winds and icy conditions today and into next week, and to closely monitor updates as forecasts continue to evolve.
