Capitals coach Spencer Carbery claims Jack Adams Award
June 7 - Spencer Carbery of the Washington Capitals was named the winner of the 2024-25 Jack Adams Award on Saturday.
The honor is presented to the NHL coach who is judged to have made the biggest contribution to a team's success.
While attending what he thought was a season-ending interview, the 43-year-old Carbery was presented with the award by his wife, Casey, and their children, Hudson and Vivian.

"Wow, I had no idea," a clearly stunned and choked-up Carbery said.
If that weren't emotional enough for Carbery, extended family members from throughout the U.S. and Canada also were there to share in the moment.
Carbery led the Capitals to a 51-22-9 (111 points) record this season as the team finished first in the Eastern Conference in his second season as Washington's coach. He becomes the fourth coach in franchise history to win the award, joining Bryan Murray (1983-84), Bruce Boudreau (2007-08) and Barry Trotz (2015-16).
He is also the first person recognized as coach of the year in the ECHL, AHL and NHL.
The members of the NHL Broadcasters' Association select the Jack Adams winner.
Carbery received 81 first-place votes on the 103 ballots cast and finished with 464 points. Scott Arniel of the Winnipeg Jets had 249 points, followed by Martin St. Louis of the Montreal Canadiens with 66.
The Capitals lost in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, defeated by the Carolina Hurricanes in five games.

We will restore it -- stronger, bolder, and with even more purpose. Black history is American history. And no spray paint can erase that truth.' Born in Cuba in 1924, Miñoso was a breakout star with the Negro leagues' New York Cubans before becoming the first Afro-Latino player in Major League Baseball history. He'd go on to earn nine All-Star appearances, three gold gloves in left field, and have his No. 9 retired by the Chicago White Sox. He died in 2015 – seven years before his posthumous induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Police say he intended to sell the metal for scrap. Ultimately Alderete got 18 months for theft in August of 2024.

Seiya Suzuki hits 2 HRs as Cubs power past Tigers
June 7 - Seiya Suzuki led a five-homer barrage with a pair of solo shots as the visiting Chicago Cubs powered past the Detroit Tigers 6-1 on Saturday afternoon. Suzuki smacked his 15th and 16th homers in support of Jameson Taillon (6-3), who posted his fourth consecutive victory and fifth straight quality start. Taillon allowed one run and three hits with one walk and five strikeouts in seven innings. Taillon has allowed just five runs during his winning streak in a span of 26 2/3 innings. Michael Busch hit a two-run homer, while Pete Crow-Armstrong and Matt Shaw added solo blasts. All but two of Chicago's hits were home runs after the Cubs were held to one run in the series opener. Zach McKinstry had a triple and scored the lone run for Detroit. Keider Montero gave up four runs and five hits in 5 2/3 innings.
