41-year-old man dies after striking moose on Highway 395 outside Chewelah
Apr. 29—A 41-year-old Valley, Washington, man died after striking a moose on Monday night on U.S. Highway 395 near Chewelah, according to Washington State Patrol.
Shortly after 9 p.m., Nathan R. Nordblad was driving north on the highway, just north of Kramer Road, in a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze when he hit the animal, troopers said in a news release. A second driver traveling south possibly struck the animal, but did not stay at the scene.
Nordblad died at Providence St. Joseph's Hospital in Chewelah. Nordblad's passenger, 37-year-old Amanda Nack, of Chewelah, was airlifted to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, the release said.
No drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, WSP said.

1 killed in Kent hit-and-run crash
A 26-year-old is accused of fleeing the scene in a deadly crash in Kent Monday night. Washington State Patrol said the 26-year-old was driving his Tesla on northbound I-5, just north of SR 516, and was driving in 'all lanes.' That driver hit the rear of another driver going in the same direction. The second vehicle hit a guardrail on the right. The causing driver is facing charges of felony hit-and-run. The 61-year-old passenger in the second vehicle died from her injuries. The driver of that vehicle was uninjured.

Woman sentenced for DWI crash that killed bicyclist in Riverside
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday after she was convicted in a 2024 drunk driving crash that resulted in the death of a bicyclist. According to court records, 25-year-old Emily Davis pleaded guilty to one count of driving while intoxicated, resulting in the death of another, back in March. On Monday, she was sentenced to serve a decade in the Missouri Department of Corrections for the deadly crash. Kansas City condo owner surprised by 153% increase in assessment said that on Sept. 16, 2024, 25-year-old Xavier Anderson was riding a bicycle on Northwest Tullison Road near Highway 9 and Argosy Casino in Riverside at about 5:30 a.m. when a Chevrolet Cruze hit him. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Anderson was hit in the rear, forcing him to be ejected from the bike. Anderson was then taken to North Kansas City Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by hospital staff just before 9 a.m., the highway patrol said.
