MILWAUKEE - A Milwaukee County judge sentenced Laron Lawrence on Friday, June 6 to 18 months probation in connection with the death of a 2-year-old boy on Milwaukee's southwest side last November. Lawrence pleaded guilty during Friday's court appearance to a single count of knowingly operate a vehicle without valid license-cause death. The judge sentenced Lawrence to one year at the Community Reintegration Center, but that sentence was stayed. Instead, the court opted for probation. What we know Lawrence was accused of striking a 2-year-old child with his SUV near 60th and Hustis in Milwaukee in November 2024. The child died from his injuries. According to the criminal complaint, at about 12:25 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, police were sent to an accident near 60th and Raintree. Upon arrival, they found a 2-year-old child lying in the roadway after being struck by a truck. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Yukon braked and swerved but appeared unable to avoid striking the child. The Yukon stopped after the accident and remained on scene, per the complaint. Officers determined that the child lived in an apartment in the area. The window to the apartment had been left open, and the child had climbed out and wandered unsupervised into the roadway. The complaint goes on to say that police spoke to the defendant, Laron Lawrence, who admitted being the driver of the Yukon. He admitted that he did not have a driver's license. He admitted the same things in a later interview with detectives. He said that he was on his way back to work when the child darted out in front of him, and he was unable to avoid hitting him, despite his efforts to avoid the child. What we know According to the criminal complaint, Milwaukee police were dispatched to the area of 95th and Silver Spring for a shooting on Thursday, June 8, 2023. A detective on the scene spotted the victim, a 35-year-old man, with gunshot wounds outside a car. Lifesaving efforts were attempted, but the victim was pronounced deceased on the scene. Investigators noted the victim's address was less than a quarter mile from the shooting scene. As police tried to locate that person, they were informed a person had walked into St. Joseph's Hospital with a gunshot wound -- and that person was the defendant, Elbert Milan. The complaint says the "defendant also matched the description of the homicide suspect that officers had received." When police spoke with Milan, he indicated he was in the back of a car and "asleep when he was woken up by an array of gunfire," the complaint says. According to the criminal complaint, a woman spoke with a detective and indicated she and friends "were all at McDonald's when an employee of McDonald's, later identified as offered to sell them crack/cocaine and he gave them samples of what he was selling." For the week leading up to the shooting, the woman indicated they had "been buying crack from the defendant. All of the purchases have happened either at the McDonald's or near the defendant's house," the complaint says. On July 3, 2023, a detective received tower data from T-Mobile. An officer analyzed that data on Nov. 22, 2023 -- and "determined that the defendant's phone was in the area of both the defendant's residence and the homicide scene between 2:07 p.m. and 2:32 p.m." on June 8, 2023. Additionally, the data revealed the defendant was in the area of St. Joseph's Hospital between 2:56 p.m. and 3:17 p.m. on June 8, 2023. The complaint says "swabs that were obtained from the outside of the front passenger door were single source male profiles. This profile belongs to Elbert Milan," the defendant. Good Samaritan steps up to help Grandview carpenter after trailer, tools stolen

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Some good news, a good Samaritan who saw our story about a carpenter who said his trailer and equipment were stolen in Grandview, is stepping up to help. . Kyle Hudson now has a set of tools and lots of equipment thanks to a generous donation. 'Once it leaves here it's yours,' the good Samaritan said. 'I hope it helps.' Parkville loosening restrictions on short-term rentals ahead of World Cup 2026 'It's incredible,' Hudson said. 'It very much will.' The man who donated more than a dozen pieces of equipment wanted to remain anonymous, but felt pulled to help. He heard Hudson's story. Hudson said in May, a thief took off with his trailer, along with all his Milwaukee tools and work equipment inside. It was parked outside his home in Grandview and wasn't insured. He said about $10,000-worth of items — gone. 'The material and the equipment got stolen in the trailer,' Hudson said. A generous viewer saw our FOX4 story and reached out to help Hudson, a total stranger. We were there for the hand off of equipment, including saws, drills, even an air compressor. They were all items he owned. 'They were items that I've had it for several years and I love it.' The man said. 'Sell it or do whatever to get you some Milwaukee stuff again.' 'It means getting back to work sooner than later,' Hudson said, 'With everything here pretty much immediately. And that was pretty far out of sight.' The man donating this equipment related to Hudson's story. He said about ten years ago, a thief stole $25-30,000-worth of work equipment out of his trailer. He told me, that's why he wants to help. Hudson said since the trailer and everything inside was stolen, he's lost several grateful this equipment will help him get back to work. 'There are good people out there, it might not be your next-door neighbor but there are people that are going to help if you speak up.
