Fact Check: Jim Carrey didn't testify at Sean 'Diddy' Combs trial
Claim:
Comedian Jim Carrey testified at rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs' sex-trafficking trial in May 2025.
Rating:
A rumor that circulated online beginning in late May 2025 claimed actor Jim Carrey testified at rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs' sex-trafficking trial in New York.
For example, on May 29, a manager of the Black Is Best YouTube channel posted a video titled (archived), "1 MINUTE AGO: Jim Carrey Testifies In Court On Day 12 Of Diddy Trial."
The clip alleged that at a 2006 party Combs "forced" Carrey to strip naked and step into a bath filled with cold tomato sauce. The video received over 344,000 views as of this writing. The thumbnail image included a cartoon-like inset picture, much like an artificial-intelligence (AI) tool might generate, showing a shirtless Combs behind a shirtless Carrey, along with a caption suggesting sexual activity.
On the same day, a manager of the WhatIsMyStarWorth YouTube channel also posted a video reading (archived), "1 MINUTE AGO: Jim Carrey 'I Took a Bath with Diddy to Get Famous' This Flipped the Courtroom..." According to the clip, Carrey allegedly testified, "I took a bath with 'Diddy' to get famous." That video earned over 206,000 views. The thumbnail image displayed a photo of Combs and Carrey wearing bathrobes and displayed the caption, "I felt helpless."
Users on Facebook (archived), Threads (archived) and TikTok (archived) shared this rumor as well.
However, both YouTube videos, as well as other YouTube clips about the rumor, featured text descriptions with a disclaimer about fictional content. That disclaimer, only visible upon clicking "more" to expand the description to its full length, read, "Disclaimer: This content is fictional and intended for entertainment purposes only. No verified court evidence or official statements confirm these claims."
Also, searches of Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google and Yahoo found no news media outlets reporting any news of Carrey as a witness testifying at Combs' trial. As a result, we've rated the claim false.
Snopes contacted a representative for Carrey to ask for comment about the matter and will update this story if we receive more information.
The two aforementioned YouTube creators, as well as others, promoted false information about Combs' background and trial. They continued a long line of videos featuring AI-generated editing, scripting and voice narration. The clips included authentic photos alongside fabricated rumors about celebrities' involvement with Combs, seemingly all for YouTube advertising revenue.
Combs faces charges including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution, all centered on so-called "freak-off" parties — alleged sexual marathons involving drug use and coercion. Combs pleaded not guilty; if convicted, he faces a minimum prison sentence of 15 years and a maximum of life in prison.
For further reading, Snopes previously reported about why someone testifying at Combs' trial mentioned former U.S. President Barack Obama's name in the courtroom.

Sean ‘Diddy' Combs' connection to a famous gangster is part of his family lore
As the federal criminal trial of Sean 'Diddy' Combs continues, many parts of his past are being revisited. That includes his father's friendship with the late gangster, Frank Lucas. Melvin Combs was a drug dealer who was fatally shot in 1972, when his son Sean Combs was three years old. 'That's not something I glorify, but he was in Harlem and he was doing his thing, selling narcotics,' Combs told journalist Toure in an interview 13 years ago. 'And we all know what that gets you. That's only going to have you end up in jail or dead. It is the reason why I didn't follow in those footsteps.' In that interview, Combs was clear that his father did not work for either Lucas or another famed Harlem gangster, Nicky Barnes, but rather was 'as big as them' in the hustling game. The younger Combs didn't shy away from his father's history. 'I'm definitely like him,' Combs said. 'But I'm just doing it in a legal way.' Combs has pleaded not guilty to charges that include racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution in an ongoing federal criminal trial in Manhattan. His mother, Janice Combs, had initially told her son his father had died in a car crash. He told Toure he found out what his father had been involved with on his own. 'This was before the internet and I had looked up my father's name and I saw an article about my mother wearing a full length chinchilla [a fur coat] to a funeral and taking me and I was in a mink,' Combs recalled. 'And that was like the story of just the glamour and like the decadence of our family and just like he was the kingpin, you know, of Harlem and how he had got assassinated.' He said he understood why his mother hadn't initially been honest with him about his dad. Due to where they were living when he was growing up, Combs said he believes he would have become 'one of the biggest drug dealers out there because…the type of person I would have wanted to follow in my father's footsteps.' Melvin Combs had a connection to Frank Lucas, a famous drug lord in Harlem during his heyday in the 1960s and 1970s. Lucas was famously portrayed by Denzel Washington in the 2007 film 'American Gangster.' He was sentenced to 70 years in prison after being convicted of federal drug charges in New York and state charges in New Jersey, but only served seven before turning informant and going into the Witness Protection Program, according to the New York Times. Lucas emerged in later years to share his story and during an interview with Vlad TV said he and Melvin Combs were 'good friends.' 'We did a lot of business together,' Lucas said. 'Of course it was not legal business, but we did a lot of business together.' Lucas expressed sadness regarding the elder Combs' murder and said he met Sean Combs when he was a little boy. 'His daddy used to bring him over my house,' Lucas said. 'He used to come see me on various business and he would bring him over my house.' Lucas added that about a year prior to the Vlad TV interview, he had connected with Combs, who was seeking information about his late father. 'I told him something about his father, but I didn't give him the whole story because he didn't press me,' Lucas said. 'He just asked me casually and I told him casually. But if he had pressed me, I would have told him the whole story.' Combs told Toure that the world didn't know the whole story about him. 'People don't really know me,' the Bad Boy Record founder said at the time. 'And that's by design.' 'Who is this person, the Sean Combs that we don't know,' Toure pressed. 'We have yet to find out,' Combs responded. 'You have to come along for the ride.'

She Says Diddy 'Dangled' Her Off 17th-Floor Balcony. Now She's Ready to Testify Against Him
Bryana Bongolan is set to testify at Sean "Diddy" Combs' trial on Wednesday, June 4 In August 2024, Bongolan sued Combs and accused him of sexual battery and dangling her over a 17th-floor balcony at Casandra "Cassie" Ventura's apartment The balcony incident was seemingly referenced in the indictment against CombsA fashion designer who once accused Sean "Diddy" Combs of dangling her over a 17th-story balcony is set to testify at the music mogul's trial on Wednesday, June 4. Bryana Bongolan will be called by the prosecution to testify. In November 2024, she filed a lawsuit accusing Combs of sexual battery. "On or about September 26, 2016, Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs sexually battered Ms. Bryana 'Bana' Bongolan, dangled her off of a 17-story-high balcony, and then slammed her onto the patio furniture on the balcony," the lawsuit alleged. "His outrageous and abhorrent conduct violated Ms. Bongolan's fundamental dignity, bodily autonomy, and sense of safety." After the suit was filed, a legal representative for Combs denied Bongolan's allegations in a statement to Rolling Stone. "Anyone has the right to file a lawsuit, regardless of the evidence they may or may not have. Since last year, Ms. Bongolan has expressed an intention to sue Mr. Combs and has sought legal representation to pursue her claims,' the rep said. 'Mr. Combs firmly denies these serious allegations and remains confident they will ultimately be proven baseless.' Combs is now criminally charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution in federal court. He has pleaded not guilty. In the indictment against Combs, prosecutors said that Combs is alleged to have once dangled someone over a balcony. In her lawsuit, Bongolan said she had been sleeping in the apartment of Combs' then-girlfriend, Casandra "Cassie" Ventura. Bongolan said in the lawsuit that she suddenly heard Combs shouting and banging on the door of the apartment. "Mr. Combs gained entry to the apartment and, upon seeing Ms. Bongolan on the balcony, advanced on her," the suit alleges. "He grabbed her, turned her back to his chest, and molested her by groping her breasts as she yelled to be left alone. When Ms. Bongolan began to physically struggle, Mr. Combs shifted his hands from her breasts to her arm pit area and lifted Ms. Bongolan up on the banister of the 17th floor balcony, while repeatedly yelling: 'Do you know what the f— you did!'"After getting down from the banister, Bongolan claimed Combs lifted her higher over the balcony. The suit claimed that the alleged assault ended when Ventura emerged and began screaming for Combs to stop, before he allegedly pulled Bongolan back and slammed her on a table. Ventura previously testified at Combs' trial for four days and made allegations of abuse, including rape, over the course of their 11-year relationship. Palm Springs bombing: Report of another arrest; FBI news conference at 9 a.m.
An arrest has been made in connection with the Palm Springs fertility clinic bombing, according to a media report. NBC Los Angeles reported early Wednesday morning that a man had been arrested at JFK Airport in New York City overnight in connection with the bombing. The report cited two anonymous law enforcement sources. Few other details were available. Investigators have been searching for anyone who may have known about the bombing before it occurred. The arrest may be tied to an individual who helped supply materials for the bombing. The vehicle bomb, which occurred on May 17, killed suspect Guy Edward Bartkus and injured four others. The FBI has called the bombing an intentional act of terrorism. It is believed Bartkus targeted the American Reproductive Centers in Palm Springs because he held "antinatalist" beliefs. The FBI's Los Angeles division is holding a press conference at 9 a.m. to discuss "new developments in a significant matter involving national security." When asked about the arrest, an FBI spokesperson directed a Desert Sun reporter to the press conference. At around 10:52 a.m., Saturday, May 17, a powerful explosion occurred in Palm Springs in a parking lot behind American Reproductive Centers, a fertility clinic that provided in vitro fertilization treatment to local women. The explosion caused the partial collapse of the building and damaged others within several blocks. The city estimates that between $6 million and $12 million in damage occurred because of the blast. Four people were injured. Eyewitnesses report the injuries in the Denny's restaurant, across the street from the parking lot. The FBI has identified Twentynine Palms resident Guy Edward Bartkus as the suspected bomber. His home, which he shared with his mother, has been extensively searched by federal agents. In recordings and writings posted online that have been linked to Bartkus, although not officially confirmed by the FBI, the suspect discussed his motivations for the bombing. He held an "antinatalist" view of the world, stating that new human life should not be created because life inherently involves suffering. He also pointed to the recent suicide of one of his best friends as a motivating factor. Bartkus' father described his son as a computer whiz with a good heart. He said Bartkus built his own computers from the age of 9 and was an avid gamer. When Bartkus was about 8 years old, his father said the boy burned down their house in a community north of Yucca Valley by playing with matches. Since the bombing, investigators have searched for individuals who may have known about the attack before it occurred. Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills has said Bartkus discussed explosives online as far back as 2022. "I don't know that he had any help. I do know that he was discussing this in chat rooms and on YouTube channels, he was experimenting with different explosives," Mills told The Desert Sun on May 20. "There was a conversation in the dark web, if you will, over this kind of thing." This is a developing story and will be updated.
