DGCA enhances safety inspections of Air India's Boeing Dreamliner fleet
The DGCA's enforcement order Friday lists out the checks the airliner has to carry out on its Boeing 787-8/9 fleet from 15 June. The Boeing 787-8/9 fleet is owned by the Tata Group.
The Boeing Dreamliner was leaving from Ahmedabad for London's Gatwick airport. However, minutes after take off, the aircraft crashed into a medical college building. At least five medical students also lost their lives in the crash, and several others were injured.
New Delhi: The DGCA has ordered enhanced safety inspection of Air India's Boeing 787-8/9 aircraft in the aftermath of Thursday's crash that killed 241 of the 242 people on board.
These checks before departure include inspection of fuel parameter monitoring and associated system checks, inspection of cabin air compressor and associated systems. Additionally, checks will also have to be conducted on the Electronic Engine Control- System Test, the Engine Fuel Driven Actuator-Operational Test and oil system check.
Serviceability checks of hydraulic system
The aviation watchdog has also asked Air India to conduct serviceability checks of the hydraulic system, and review of the take-off parameters.
Moreover, the DGCA has also directed that 'Flight Control Inspection' be introduced in transit inspection till further notice, in addition to power assurance checks to be carried out in two weeks and closure of maintenance action based upon the review of 'repetitive snags during the last 15 days on B787-8/9 aircraft at the earliest'.
The DGCA has sought a report on the above checks for review.
The Dreamliner had taken off at 1:39 pm Thursday. A 'Mayday' call was made to the ATC before the crash and the flight crashed near the airport.
On Friday, the Black Box was recovered from the roof of the BJ Medical college's hostel building. Meanwhile the process of extracting DNA samples and matching them with that of the family members of the deceased is ongoing.
Of the 242 people on board, only one person survived the crash. 10 crew members and the two pilots are among those who died in the crash.

Noida: Four men have been arrested in Noida for their alleged involvement in a currency exchange scam that culminated in the murder of a 40-year-old businessman earlier this week. In Bhati's case, the group had claimed they wanted to exchange Canadian dollars worth Rs 7 lakh. Akash even withdrew Rs 3 lakh to lend credibility to the fake deal. After Bhati arrived at the Sector 12 flat, the suspects attempted to rob him, but he resisted and was fatally shot. The group contacted Ajay post the murder, who advised them to take shelter at Aryan's house in Delhi. Police say they had defrauded another exchange operator of 8,000 dirhams just before their arrest. All four have been charged with murder, fraud, and possession of illegal firearms. Karnataka police look to put brakes on wheelie surge across state
Bengaluru: Karnataka is witnessing a sharp rise in dangerous bike stunts, particularly wheelies, posing a growing threat to public safety. Official data reveals a troubling surge in cases, with numbers more than doubling from 2023 to 2024 and projected to climb further in 2025. There have also been fatal accidents involving youngsters performing stunts. As per police statistics, the number of wheelie cases across the state rose from 341 in 2023 to 775 in 2024. The first four months of this year saw 321 cases, indicating that 2025 could end with over 900 cases overall. Wheelie cases from Bengaluru comprise 75% of the total cases in Karnataka. Of the 1,437 cases registered between 2023 and April 2025, as many as 1,057 were reported from Bengaluru. The IT city is followed by Mysuru, Tumakuru, and Ramanagara when it comes to wheelie cases. The high court had recently called for stronger laws to tackle wheeling, urging the state to introduce specific provisions to protect public safety and curb reckless behaviour of motorcyclists. Woman dies by suicide over alleged dowry, religious conversion harassment
Alwar: A 25-year-old woman died by suicide at her parents' house in Bharatpur district on Saturday after allegedly facing persistent harassment over religious conversion and dowry demands from her husband and in-laws. The deceased, identified as Manja, left behind a haunting video message naming her husband Laxman, mother-in-law Ramdei and brothers-in-law Arun and Rohtash as responsible for her death, police said. Before taking the extreme step at her parental home in Talimpur village of Bharatpur district, Manja recorded an emotional video plea calling for severe punishment, including death penalty, for her alleged tormentors. In the video, she detailed the harassment she faced regarding religious conversion from Hinduism to Christianity and dowry demands. "Forgive me, Papa! Laxman, Ramdei and Rohtash are responsible for my death. They tortured me a lot for religious conversion and dowry," Manja said in the video.
