UFC targets Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick for June event
Former UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas has her next assignment, and it comes in the form of a rising contender.
At a UFC Fight Night event June 14, Namajunas (13-7 MMA, 11-6 UFC) returns to battle Miranda Maverick (15-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) in a flyweight bout. The event does not currently have a locked-in location or venue, but the frontrunner is Atlanta, according to two people with knowledge of the situation. Bout contracts are expected to be issued and signed in the coming days.
The people asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.
Namajunas aims to bounce back from a November loss to Erin Blanchfield by unanimous decision. The defeat snapped a two-fight winning streak for Namajunas, who defeated Amanda Ribas and Tracy Cortez in succession.
Four wins in a row lands Maverick in her most high-profile matchup to date against a former UFC titleholder. She's won six of her most recent seven and is coming off a unanimous decision win over Jamey-Lyn Horth in December.

Erin Blanchfield will get show money, win bonus from UFC after Maycee Barber debacle
Erin Blanchfield will get show money, win bonus from UFC after Maycee Barber debacle Show Caption Hide Caption Erin Blanchfield on Maycee Barber: 'She needs to fix her life' UFC on ESPN 68 winner Erin Blanchfield talks to reporters post-fight after Maycee Barber was ruled out of their in main event due to a medical issue. After what only can be described as an absolute debacle of a fight week, Erin Blanchfield will be paid both her show and win money from the UFC. Blanchfield (13-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) was set to headline UFC on ESPN 68 on Saturday against Maycee Barber (14-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) in a women's flyweight bout. The fight was canceled literally in the final minute or two before the fighters were set to walk to the cage from the back – leaving even the broadcast team unsure what was happening. No official reason has been given by the UFC or from Barber's side, and even the broadcast team speculated about the reason, including repeating a rumor that Barber suffered a seizure before she walked out. But the team also repeated the rumor that Barber was set to walk out, then turned around and walked back. Fight week featured some veiled comments by Blanchfield wondering if Barber even would show up to the fight. Friday, Barber missed weight by a half-pound – and despite having an opportunity to cut the additional weight with extra time and avoid paying a penalty to Blanchfield, she immediately said she was done cutting weight. At the ceremonial faceoffs just after the weigh-ins, the two had to be separated by matchmaker Sean Shelby, and their beef continued on social media later on in the day. But when fight time rolled around, Barber didn't make the walk. Her management said Blanchfield will be paid her win bonus from the UFC. But Blanchfield also was set to get a percentage of Blanchfield's purse because of her weight infraction. Because she didn't fight, that presumably won't come Blanchfield's way. Blanchfield said post-fight she is not interested in rebooking a fight with Barber, whose social media comments have been awash with criticism from fans. UFC on ESPN 68 had another cancellation at weigh-ins, and the Blanchfield-Barber fight scrapped meant the event wrapped with just nine fights, the most prestigious of which was the co-main event – that wound up being the headliner – at lightweight between Mateusz Gamrot (25-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) and Ludovit Klein (23-5-1 MMA, 7-3-1 UFC), which Gamrot won by unanimous decision. Barber was set to fight for the first time in more than a year.

Erin Blanchfield trashes Maycee Barber, reveals what led to fight cancellation
The UFC Vegas 107 fight card on Saturday was supposed to be headlined by a women's flyweight bout between No. 4 ranked Erin Blanchfield and No. 5 ranked Maycee Barber. Neither fighter ended up stepping foot inside the octagon at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Due to a Barber medical issue and not being cleared to fight moments before make the walk to the octagon, the bout was abruptly cancelled. During the event's post-fight press conference, Blanchfield ripped Barber. Advertisement "I feel like I'm in pretty disbelief right now. I feel like I was in disbelief yesterday when she missed weight because we've known about this fight since January. You could have been 50 pounds overweight and still made weight," Blanchfield said. "So she missed weight. She gets to Saturday. She gets to the locker room. I'm fully ready to go. She's supposed to be ready to go. Supposedly she has all these health issues right before we're supposed to fight. I think it's pretty crazy, pretty unprofessional. I wouldn't want to fight her again," Blanchfield continued. "I would not want to book another fight with her." The fight promotion didn't disclose what medical issue Barber was dealing with on Saturday, but Blanchfield shared what she was told. Related: Erin Blanchfield reacts to UFC Vegas 107 main event cancelation "I was told she had a seizure in the locker room. I don't know how or why exactly that was caused, but that's what I was told," Blanchfield said. Advertisement "I was literally told, 'six minutes until walkout.' It was already six minutes. I thought I was being told, okay, it's time to go and then Hunter [Campbell] comes in and tells me what happened. It's pretty crazy." Blanchfield had no sympathy for Barber. She berated the Top 5 contender and offered some brutal advice. "She needs to look at another division. She needs to fix her life. She just needs to fix herself," Blanchfield said. "I think she's a complete mess in every aspect of her entire life." Erin Blanchfield missed an opportunity Blanchfield would have entered the bout having won 10 of her last 11 fights and was coming off a decision win over former two-time strawweight titleholder Rose Namajunas. With a solid performance, she could have earned a title shot. When Barber couldn't compete, Blanchfield lost a big opportunity. "This fight was possibly a contenders fight," Blanchfield said. "I was really ready to put on a show tonight. It definitely leaves me in a bit of a weird place. I mean I know there's other girls in the Top 5 that I could fight. I guess we'll just have to go back and reassess."
