Gruesome details of final moments of three girls murdered by homeless dad
WARNING: CONFRONTING
The bodies of three young sisters killed, allegedly by their dad, in Washington state were found with plastic bags over their heads and their wrists zip-tied, investigators said.
The gruesome new details were laid bare in court papers as cops continued the manhunt for their homeless father, 32-year-old Travis Decker, on Wednesday, KOMO reported.
The bodies of the Decker sisters — Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5 — were discovered in an embankment near the Rock Island Campground in Wenatchee, roughly three hours east of Seattle, on Monday evening.
A preliminary report found the girls were likely asphyxiated.
In addition to the bags and zip-ties, the girls' bodies were found in the same outfits they were wearing when they vanished Friday.
Their bodies were found close to their father's white 2017 GMC Sierra truck, which allegedly had two bloody handprints smeared on the back, the papers state.
Their father had collected the three girls from their mother's house for a planned visitation on Friday — then went missing with them in his truck.
Decker is described as a military veteran with extensive training.
Hours before the bodies were found, a warrant was issued for Decker's arrest on three counts of first-degree custodial interference.
On Tuesday, the charges were updated to three counts each of kidnapping and first-degree murder, police confirmed to Fox13.
Decker, who is homeless and divorced from his children's mother, was known to stay at campgrounds and hotels in the local area with his dog, according to police.
After picking up the girls Friday, Decker and his truck were seen later that weekend in the west end of Leavenworth, triggering a police search in the wooded areas around the town, NCWLIFE reported.
The bodies were found on Rock Island Campground, about 30km west of the town of Leavenworth, at around 5pm on Monday.
SWAT teams and federal agencies — including Homeland Security and the US Forest Service — then descended on the area and began the search for Decker.
The girls' mother, Whitney Decker, had issued a heartbreaking appeal for their safe return Monday, hours before the bodies were found.
'I just want the girls back home safe and sound — that is the most important thing to me,' she said in the emailed statement sent to NCWLIFE.
'I am concerned about the safety and wellbeing of my girls and their dad. This is an unimaginable situation.
'I am pleading for everyone to look out for them.'
She said she had never had problems before when her ex had the kids — and didn't think his battles with mental health would make him 'dangerous'.
'Travis has really struggled since he left the military and his mental health can be hard sometimes,' she told Kiro7 before her daughters turned up dead. 'He is impulsive and he loves his children very much.'

A woman found not guilty of a workplace safety charge relating to a deadly jumping castle accident says she understands the anger parents feel toward her. Six children died when a gust of wind carried the jumping castle into the air at Hillcrest Primary School in 2021, while three others were seriously injured. Speaking through her lawyer Bethan Frake, Ms Gamble has said she can only imagine the pain of the children's parents: "I don't ask for people's understanding. I accept that people will feel anger and animosity toward me. I know there is nothing I can ever do which will change that. I never meant for something like this to happen. And I am just so sorry that it did." The wife of Robert Pether says she remains concerned about her husband's health, now he has been released from an Iraqi prison. The Australian engineer had been imprisoned on fraud charges his family said had arisen from a contract dispute over the construction of a central bank in Baghdad. Foreign Minister Penny Wong has hailed his release, saying in a statement it followed 'persistent advocacy' by the government. But Desree Pether has said the government had not been doing enough to help, highlighting her husband's worsening health. Just shocking, the human rights abuse." Authorities say five Palestinians have been shot dead while trying to collect aid in southern Gaza. Officials at Nasser Hospital say the shootings happened when crowds gathered near an aid distribution point in Rafah, in what would be the latest in a series of deadly incidents near food hubs where displaced Palestinians have been queuing for essential supplies. Bilal Barhoum, who was displaced from Rafah, says he was there. "I went inside to bring aid. The tanks, the quadcopters, all started shooting at you, shooting from everywhere. I saw people injured in their feet, hands, stomachs. Many injuries inside." More than 700 people have been evacuated from their homes in Guatemala as a volcano shoots ash miles into the air. Disaster agency CONRED says the residents have been taken to safety as a precaution, because authorities have been warning of increased activity around the frequently active Fuego volcano this week. Muslims in Australia have joined in the global celebrations of Eid al-Adha, one of two key festivals in the Islamic calendar. It's a celebration which involves the sacrificing of an animal - generally a lamb, a goat or a cow - and then sharing the food with friends, family and those living in poverty. Indonesian-Australian man Miftahuddin from the Sydney suburb of Lakemba, says Eid al-Adha is a time to demonstrate his love to God, and share this love with others. "We celebrate the Eid by first in the morning go to praying. It's called Eid al-Adha praying.
