Rideshare-style shuttle service launches in Mid-City: Here's how to ride

Yahoo17-02-2025

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Mid-City San Diego residents now have another car alternative to get around the neighborhood: a rideshare-style shuttle service.
Via, a 'microtransit' technology company, launched the shuttle service in City Heights and North Park on Friday, providing no-cost, clean rides to people looking to travel in and around the two areas.
Called Mid-City GO, the service parallels other community shuttles in San Diego — the now-out-of-service Beach Bug in Pacific Beach and Ride Circuit's Free Ride Everywhere Downtown (FRED) — as a way for public transit riders to more easily move between stops.

The mobility service operates like an on-demand rideshare app, comparable to Uber or Lyft. Riders can order the shuttle for pick up either by calling or putting in a request through the Via San Diego app, then take it anywhere in its service zone.
The shuttle runs through most of Mid-City, running from El Cajon Boulevard south to Upas Street in North Park and Fairmont Avenue in City Heights. A map of the service area can be found here.
The shuttle operates from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, although the latest schedules can be found in the Via San Diego app, available in both Apple and Google app stores.
The shuttle is funded through a $1.5 million state grant as a four-year pilot program managed through North Park Main Street and the City Heights Community Development Corporation.

Santee trucking company owner accused in $2 million credit card fraud

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The owner and operator of a trucking company in Santee is accused of bank fraud, money laundering and aggravated identity theft in a $2 million credit card scheme, per federal officials. Hasan Korkmaz, 44, of Las Vegas, Nevada, was arraigned in federal court Tuesday on an 18-count indictment, the United States Department of Justice said in a news release. Korkmaz, who owns and operates San Diego Logistics Group Inc., allegedly executed a credit card 'bust-out' scheme in 2022 and 2023 by establishing seemingly legitimate credit card accounts and then maxing out the credit line with no intention of paying the balance, according to the indictment. Federal documents on Buona Forchetta ICE raid released 'The indictment alleges that Korkmaz obtained names, dates of birth, social security numbers and other personally identifiable information corresponding with real individuals. Korkmaz then applied for numerous credit card accounts with that information,' the DOJ said. Korkmaz is suspected of using the credit cards to incur charges at various businesses, including San Diego Logistics Group Inc., with some charges as high as $18,500 in a single transaction, prosecutors said. Korkmaz also allegedly made fraudulent payments with checks drawn on accounts with insufficient funds or drawn on non-existent accounts to the credit card accounts, which temporarily restored the available credit limits, per the indictment. 'As alleged in the indictment, Korkmaz laundered the bank fraud proceeds, including by transferring proceeds from the fraud scheme to a Turkish bank account controlled by Korkmaz. In total, Korkmaz caused over $2,103,000 in losses to two banks,' the DOJ said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
