In many ways, pets are like children—they need play, attention, and stimulation to thrive. So when Ollie the British shorthair began acting strangely, his owners assumed he was simply bored. But as his behavior grew more concerning, it became clear something deeper was going on.
Newsweek spoke to owner Karina about the emotional transformation was documented on TikTok (@ollie.and.otis) where Ollie's owners shared their struggle to bring joy back into his life. The video, which quickly went viral and has racked up over 966,000 views, shows the heartache of a cat who seemed to be silently yearning for more.
"We thought he was just bored... then we saw the signs," one of the owners explained.
Ollie began acting differently—he would stare out the window at the neighbor's cat, as if wishing he could join the fun. His behavior took a worrying turn when he began running to the door every time his owner left for work.

"My boy was sad," states the text in the clip.
Desperate to lift his spirits, his owners tried everything. From harness training to allow him safe outdoor adventures, to new toys and increased playtime—they left no stone unturned.
"We gave it our all," said Karina and her partner Richard.
But the spark never truly returned. Ollie began napping longer and more heavily, as if simply passing the time rather than truly resting.
The text said: "One day, he let out a cry I'd never heard before. It broke my heart."
Then came Otis. Another feline companion, was introduced into the household—and instantly bonded with Ollie.
"He didn't just need stimulation. He needed a companion."

The transformation was instant. Today, Ollie, two, and Otis, one, are described as inseparable. From cuddles to playtime, their bond is undeniable.
"We expected it might take weeks for them to form a bond, but to our surprise, they became friends within just a couple of hours.
"Ollie was immediately curious and gentle. He jumped around trying to get a better look, and when we carefully let them meet, he began licking Otis, who responded calmly. From that moment, their friendship started," Karina told Newsweek.
The clip, captioned "The best decision we have ever made. We gave our cat a friend he needed," has received 85,000 likes, sparking a wave of emotional responses from fellow pet lovers.
She added: "Their bond is very special. Otis is a little more playful and active since he's younger, and Ollie is always gentle with him.
"They enjoy their own space during the day, each retreating to their favorite nap spots, but they always come back together to cuddle or play. They're very different in personality, but it's clear they love having each other."
While cats are often seen as solitary creatures, the reality can be more nuanced. Many cats thrive with companionship—especially if they have been socialized with other cats early in life. However, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) notes that not all cats are open to sharing their space.
Under-socialization, personality clashes, or territorial tendencies can make introducing a new feline tricky.

Now that we know who will be helming the first MCU "X-Men" film, we still need to wait to learn exactly who will be in the film. We know many of the stars from the Fox X-Men films will be appearing in "Avengers: Doomsday", including Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn and James Marsden. Add to that Channing Tatum, whose version of Gambit finally got its chance to shine in last year's "Deadpool & Wolverine," but has never been shown as part of an X-Men team on the big screen. More than two decades after the release of 28 Days Later, the third installment in the zombie-apocalypse film franchise has been released. 28 Years Later picks up almost three decades after the release of a dangerous virus that turned humans into zombie-like creatures that plagued the streets of London. 28 Years Later tells the post-apocalyptic story of a group of survivors on a small island from which a father and his son leave and discover what has happened to the outside world. Here's a synopsis of each film in the trilogy, which spans more than two decades. 28 Days Later The series' first film, released in 2002, centers around a few survivors. Jim is a bicycle courier played by Cillian Murphy (who won the Best Actor award at the Oscars for the titular role in Oppenheimer in 2023). Naomie Harris (who played Eve Moneypenny in the James Bond films opposite Daniel Craig's 007) portrays Selena, who saves Jim from the infected before the two travel together. The film focuses on the aftermath of the Rage virus that was accidentally released by a group of animal-rights activists from a medical research laboratory testing monkeys. 'I Was Broke': Gary Oldman Gets Honest About Starring In 1 Of The Most Hated Films Ever
Sir Gary Oldman has opened up about how he came to star in a film that's widely considered one of the worst in history. Back in 2003, the newly-knighted British actor starred alongside Matthew McConaughey, Patricia Arquette and Kate Beckinsale in Tiptoes (two of whom have gone on to win Academy Awards, as has Sir Gary). The film centred around a young man, played by Matthew, who gets his girlfriend pregnant, having concealed from her that every member of his family, including his twin brother, has a form of dwarfism. Sir Gary played Matthew's brother in the movie, for which he donned prosthetics and spent much of the shoot on his knees. During a new interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Sir Gary admitted that he's never actually seen Tiptoes, and revealed that it came along at a difficult time in both his personal and professional life. 'I'll be very honest with you,' Sir Gary began. 'I had gone through a divorce and a nasty thing with a contractor.' He continued 'I ended up in California, in LA, at 42 years old, a single dad, and I was broke. And, ironically, I was living under the Hollywood sign, living in this rental. We had no furniture – thank God for Ikea.' Sir Gary said that when the offer for Tiptoes came along, he'd not worked for just shy of two years, and had been affected by an actors' strike. 'It was a bit of a rough time, and I needed to pay some bills, and I needed some money, and it was an actors' strike ontop of it all, which was a double whammy,' he admitted, noting the situation was a 'terrible time' for everyone in Hollywood. 'And then this film came along, this crazy idea, from this director, that I would play a little person. And I would play Matthew McConaughey's brother. 'There were several [issues]. First of all, I got locked in to doing a voice like that, because I had to sound like Matthew. We were brothers, so somehow, I had to sound like Matthew. So that was that. And then, I'm on my knees… desperate measures, desperate times.' 'I needed to work,' he insisted. 'And it was a crazy idea. But, would I do it now? No.' He said that if one good thing came out of the film, it's that several actors with dwarfism – including a pre- Game Of Thrones Peter Dinklage – were able to get work at a time when many performers were struggling. 'It was a good thing in that regard, because they were all going through the same thing I was going through, with no work,' Sir Gary said, insisting: 'But it's a misfire, to be sure. Not one I talk about, I'm so glad you brought it up.' Elsewhere in the interview, Sir Gary was also asked about another of the films he hasn't held in an especially high regard, The Fifth Element. He explained that his wife of eight years, Gisele Schmidt, has helped to 'convince me that it's a better film than I think it is'. Sir Gary explained: 'I'm contaminated, because I was the one who had that haircut. And I was the one who was wearing rubber. So, others can experience it in a different way. I get a little triggered when I see it, and I go back to that place of Jean-Paul Gaultier and rubber.' He added: 'Bruce [Willis] didn't like [that] either – you know that orange vest that he wears? He hated it.' A year after Tiptoes hit cinemas, Sir Gary made his debut as Sirius Black in the third Harry Potter film – a role with which he's still synonymous to many today. Since then, he also won an Oscar for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. Over the weekend, it was announced that Sir Gary had been bestowed with a knighthood by King Charles for his services to drama.
