Egypt's ENSN Records 4.6 Magnitude Earthquake Near Marsa Matrouh

On Friday, the Egyptian National Seismic Network (ENSN) of the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) recorded a 4.65 magnitude earthquake.
In an official statement, the institute revealed that the earthquake took place at a distance of 373 kilometers northwest of Marsa Matrouh.
It took place at 05:40 pm (Cairo time), with a depth of 25.58 km.
Magnitude: 4.65 on the Richter scale
In the same context, the Director of NRIAG, Dr. Taha Rabah, stated that no reports were received regarding any losses of properties or casualties.
He added that citizens in Egypt didn't report feeling the earthquake.

NRIAG: Egypt Lies 600 km Away from Seismic Belts
Rana Atef Dr. Sherif El-Hady, Head of the Earthquake Department at the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, confirmed that Egypt's borders are about 600 kilometres away from the seismic belts, explaining that an earthquake is a sudden shake. The series of earthquakes that occurred in Egypt over the past few days are a result of unexpected seismic activity. El-Hady added, during a phone interview on the program "Al-Hayat Al-Youm" with journalist Mohamed Mostafa Sherdy, broadcast on Al-Hayat Channel, that the sudden seismic activity is due to the nature of the land, and it may subside for long periods. He emphasized that the recent earthquakes are not an indication of a large-scale earthquake or a disaster. He continued, 'The duration of the most recent earthquake was 12 seconds, and it could vary if you are farther from the coast. The farther you are, the shorter the duration. The Egyptian Red Crescent announced that its operations room detected an earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale, at a depth of 62 km, in the Dodecanese Islands border area with Turkey, 129 km south-southeast of Aydın, Turkey, at 11:17 a.m. The earthquake was felt by residents of Greater Cairo, the Delta, Alexandria, and Marsa Matrouh. The current situation is stable, and no reports of human or property damage have been received so far. Egypt has felt at least three strong earthquakes in less than a month. Is Egypt safe from destructive earthquakes? Sherif El-Hadi, head of the Seismology Department at the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, explained in previous statements that Egypt is relatively safe from destructive earthquakes compared to other areas directly located on seismic belts. Although history indicates that the region may experience significant seismic activity in the long term, the timing of this event cannot be determined based on recent seismic activity. Although Egyptians have felt some recent tremors, these were mostly caused by earthquakes centered outside Egypt in seismically active areas. Egypt itself is not directly located on a seismic belt, and there is no indication that an unusually large earthquake is imminent in the near future based on these earthquakes. Another earthquake recently felt by Egyptians was centered south of the island of Crete in the Mediterranean Sea. This region is known for its seismic activity, and earthquakes that occur in the Mediterranean are usually non-destructive to Egypt and do not pose any immediate threat to Egyptian territory. The Possibility of Predicting Earthquakes The National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics confirmed that earthquakes cannot be predicted, and that the frequency of earthquakes in the eastern Mediterranean region is normal, and the National Seismic Network monitors them in real-time.

The country will also witness mist on agricultural and highway roads in Cairo, Lower Egypt, Canal Cities, North Coast, and North Upper Egypt. Extremely hot weather is also expected to hit South Upper Egypt. Light rainfall is also predicted to prevail intermittently in the northern coasts, and the north of Lower Egypt. Furthermore, the Mediterranean Sea will experience low to moderate waves, ranging between 1.5 and 2 meters in height, varying between northwest and northeast surface winds.
