The 10 best places to visit in Canada for incredible wildlife
This remote archipelago off B.C.'s coast invites you to paddle alongside playful sea lions, spot humpbacks breaching in misty waters, and witness bald eagles soaring over ancient Haida villages. Curious black bears forage along moss-draped shorelines while colourful puffins dive-bomb the waters. From a kayak or Zodiac, watch orcas slicing through glasslike channels as tidal pools reveal starfish mosaics below. In this untamed paradise, where land meets sea meets living Haida culture, it's easy to see why Gwaii Haanas is dubbed Canada's Galapagos.

2-ferry service between N.S. and P.E.I. is set to resume for the season Sunday
The ferry service between Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia will have two ships in rotation for the busy tourist season starting Sunday, June 15. This is the first season the MV Northumberland — previously the MV Fanafjord — will be on the water. The federal government purchased the vehicle and passenger ferry from its Norwegian owner for $43 million in 2023 as a replacement for the Holiday Island, which had to be scrapped after a fire in the summer of 2022. With both the MV Confederation and MV Northumberland in service, Northumberland Ferries will have eight scheduled crossings a day. Departures will take place about every 90 minutes, with the first at 7 a.m. and the last at 6:30 p.m. The only other option for crossing between Prince Edward Island and mainland Canada by vehicle is the Confederation Bridge, which connects western P.E.I. and New Brunswick.

Stretch of Red Line closed over the weekend
The Red Line will be closed between Sunnyside and University Station starting Saturday morning. As if having world leaders arriving from every corner of the planet for the G7 summit wasn't enough to make getting around town more challenging than usual this weekend, the Red Line will also be disrupted. Calgary Transit posted on its social media channels that the Red Line between Sunnyside and University Station will be closed June 14 to 15. The closure will impact Sunnyside, SAIT/AUArts/Jubilee, Lions Park, Banff Trail, University, and Brentwood stations. Shuttle buses will replace train service between Sunnyside and Brentwood Stations both days. Passengers on the southbound train from Brentwood should stay on only if you're going to University Station. Otherwise, catch the shuttle in the Brentwood Station bus loop. Trains coming from the south and downtown will terminate at Sunnyside station, while trains from the northwest will terminate at University station. Calgary Transit also posted a message on its website that customers calling Teleride may experience issues trying to obtain schedule information and recommended trying TeleText at 74000 or the Trip Planner on the Calgary Transit website. It also posted that Route 100 (Airport/Saddletowne) and 119 (Freeport) are both being detoured due to G7-related road closures around the airport. Expect delays and plan ahead. Regular Red Line service will resume Monday morning. For more information, go here.

Thousands of B.C. reservations at risk due to short-term rental regulations: Airbnb
A sign indicating Airbnb rentals are not permitted is seen at the entrance to a condo tower, in Vancouver, on Thursday, November 23, 2023. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Darryl Dyck Short-term vacation rental platform Airbnb says 'thousands' of reservations in British Columbia are at risk of being cancelled due to the province's crackdown on the industry amid a housing crisis. Alex Howell, Airbnb's Canadian policy lead, says the rules that require short-term rental hosts to confirm their listings are legal under the changes have already led to some bookings being cancelled. The government says platforms such as Airbnb can't post B.C. listings without confirming their registration with the province, but Howell says many hosts whose properties qualify can't register due to glitches and other problems with the new system. Howell says instead of waiting until the June 23 deadline — where bookings on unregistered B.C. properties would be cancelled — Airbnb is proactively contacting affected hosts and guests to offer penalty-free cancellations. The province had said that short-term rentals are being restricted to principal residences, a secondary suite or a structure such as a laneway house on the property, and the policy is meant to open up more units in B.C.'s rental housing market. The B.C. Ministry of Housing did not immediately provide a response in reaction to Airbnb's claims. This report by Chuck Chiang, The Canadian Press, was first published June 13, 2025.
