NEW YORK (AP) — Cooper Flagg lived up to every expectation during one season at Duke and has the potential for NBA superstardom.
That's why Mavericks fans can't wait to get him to Dallas.
The Mavericks are expected to take Flagg with the No. 1 pick in the draft on Wednesday night, quickly adding another franchise-altering player after trading one away last season.

The Mavericks fell into the lottery after dealing Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in February, though they had only a 1.8% chance of winning it. When they did, it gave them the opportunity to add an 18-year-old who was college basketball's best player in 2024-25.
Flagg averaged 19.2 points and 7.5 rebounds and led Duke to the Final Four. The 6-foot-8 forward topped the Blue Devils in all five major statistical categories and already has proven he has a game that will more than hold up against the pros when he played well last summer during an invite to the U.S. Olympic team's training camp.
If Flagg is the choice, it will end two straight years when an American college player was not the No. 1 pick in the draft, the first time that had happened. The San Antonio Spurs selected Victor Wembanyama in 2023 and the Atlanta Hawks took another French player, Zaccherie Risacher, last season.
The Spurs have the No. 2 pick this year. Then it's Philadelphia, Charlotte and Utah.

Alabama basketball's Mark Sears, Grant Nelson both land in final NBA mock drafts

The 2025 NBA draft is here, and former Alabama Crimson Tide players Mark Sears and Grant Nelson are two names to watch in the second round of this year's draft festivities at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Neither Sears oor Nelson are locks to be taken in the draft, which has produced some guesstimating from NBA analysts over which has the advantage over the other as potential late-round picks. Some favor the undersized Sears, Alabama's leading scorer in each of the past two seasons, while others see Nelson's 6-foot-11 frame and athleticism as factors that can make him a serviceable NBA player. One such analyst who favors Nelson over Sears is CBS Sports' Kyle Boone, who projects the North Dakota native to land with the Memphis Grizzlies late in the second round at No. 56 overall. Boone says of Nelson: "The fluid movement and sheer athleticism of Nelson is NBA-caliber, though the holes in his game as a below-average shooter are tough to totally ignore. He plays big in big games and competes hard on both ends." Bleacher Report's final 2025 NBA mock draft favors Sears, the Crimson Tide's most recognizable face on the court the past two years. B/R's mock draft has Sears going to the Los Angeles Clippers with the 51st pick. NBA analyst Jonathan Wasserman said: "Mark Sears led all players in shooting drills at the combine before combining for 31 points and 11 assists in two scrimmages. Late in the second round, teams figure to see a gamble worth taking on an undersized scoring guard with Sears' production, shotmaking and toughness." One NBA analyst who favors both Sears and Nelson is For The Win's Bryan Kalbrosky. In his updated final mock draft Wednesday, Kalbrosky kept Sears as the projected No. 45 overall pick by the Chicago Bulls, with Nelson the final player chosen at No. 59 (by the Phoenix Suns). The draft will be televised on ABC and ESPN beginning at 7 p.m. CT. ESPN final NBA draft big board rankings ESPN unveiled its final big board rankings of the top 100 draft prospects over the weekend. Here's how analyst Jonathan Givony ranks the three Alabama players who attended the NBA draft combine in Chicago. CBS Sports NBA draft big board rankings CBS Sports' full draft prospect rankings favor Nelson over Sears as the Alabama player most likely to be drafted Wednesday night. The Athletic The Athletic's Sam Vecente (subscription required) broke down the top 100 draft prospects into eight tiers. Tier 1 players are defined as "All-NBA" talent, while Tier 8 players are listed as "two-ways, stashes and exhibit 10s." An Exhibit 10 contract is a one-year, minimum salary agreement that isn't guarantee. Sears and Nelson fall into the latter category. 2025 NBA Draft live updates: Start time, where to watch, draft order

It's the day that all struggling NBA franchises have been dreaming of. The NBA Draft, a now two-day event that gives the worst teams in the league a chance to catch lightning in a bottle and a deep dive into other teams who have no idea what they are doing. Outside of the top selection, which is expected to be the Dallas Mavericks selecting Duke freshman and national player of the year Cooper Flagg, there is no telling what will happen when NBA Commissioner Adam Silver takes the podium at Barclays Center in New York. Already before this year's draft, several trades have a chance to change the landscape of the league. Kevin Durant orchestrated his exit from the Phoenix Suns after two seasons and was shipped to the up-and-coming Houston Rockets, and Kristaps Porzingis was dealt to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-team swap as the Boston Celtics continued its post-championship salary dump. One of those teams in the Porzingis deal is the Brooklyn Nets, who now have five first-round picks (No. 8, No. 19, No. 22, No. 26, No. 27), plus a second rounder at No. 36) and could make some serious noise to move up or use its assets to broker a deal for an established star. Also, look out for the world champion Oklahoma City Thunder, who have two first-round picks and a total of 11 first-round picks through the 2030 season, keeping their title-chasing window open for years to come. Alabama Guard Receives Major Update on Eligibility

Alabama Guard Receives Major Update on Eligibility originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Alabama Crimson Tide will play next season without three-time All-SEC honoree Mark Sears. However, the expectation in Tuscaloosa remains another trip to the Elite Eight, and their chances received a significant boost on Monday. Advertisement According to Blake Byler of On3, the NCAA has granted guard Latrell Wrightsell a medical redshirt for the 2025-26 season. Next season will be Wrightsell's sixth season in college basketball and third with the Crimson Tide. Wrightsell was in the midst of a solid season with Alabama during the 2024-25 campaign before a ruptured Achilles tendon ended his year. Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nate R. Sylvanie-Imagn Images Before his injury, the Omaha native averaged 11.5 points on 50% shooting across eight games. The year before, Wrightsell scored 8.9 points per game in 32 games, but injuries limited him during the team's run to the Final Four. He is a career 45% shooter from deep while donning the crimson and grey. Advertisement Wrightsell joined the Crimson Tide through the transfer portal and, more notably, from the Cal State Fullerton Titans. He was an All-Big West member in his final year, scoring 16.3 points per game. The news of Wrightsell's eligibility for the 2025-26 season is a ginormous boost for the Nate Oats-led squad. Wrightsell will likely play his most significant role with the Crimson Tide since joining them in 2023, especially with the loss of senior guards Mark Sears and Chris Youngblood. Sears scored 18.6 points per game en route to All-American honors. Meanwhile, Youngblood scored 10.3 points per game as Sears' top backcourt running mate.
