53-Year-Old Man Arrested After Car Ploughs Through Crowds at Liverpool Victory Parade

A 53-year-old man has been arrested after a car drove into crowds of Liverpool fans during the Premier League victory parade, leaving multiple people injured.
The incident occurred just after 6 pm on Water Street, close to the parade route where thousands had gathered to celebrate Liverpool FC's league title.
Video footage shared on social media showed the car moving through the dense crowd as people scream.
Moments later, the vehicle came to a stop, with witnesses reporting that angry bystanders surrounded it and began striking it. The car's rear windscreen was visibly shattered.
Emergency services responded swiftly. According to Merseyside Police, the vehicle remained at the scene, and the male driver—identified as a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area—was taken into custody.
Police have confirmed they are not treating the incident as terror-related.
In total, 27 people were taken to hospital, including a child and an adult who sustained serious injuries.
Another 20 people received treatment at the scene. Among the injured were four children. Fire crews had to rescue four individuals, including a child, from underneath the vehicle.
Eyewitness accounts describe a chaotic and terrifying scene. BBC reporter Matt Cole, who was present, said the car "just wasn't stopping" as it travelled at more than 20 mph through the crowd, with some trying to halt it by banging on the sides and throwing objects.
Another witness, Matthew O'Carroll, said the driver was beeping as he moved through the crowd at a 'decent' speed.
Water Street, the site of the incident, lies near The Strand and was part of the route taken by Liverpool FC's open-top bus tour, which had passed the area shortly before the collision. The club has since suspended internal celebrations.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer posted on social media: 'The scenes in Liverpool are appalling – my thoughts are with all those injured or affected.' He also thanked emergency responders for their swift action.
Liverpool FC and Everton FC issued statements expressing support for those affected, and the Premier League echoed their sentiments, calling the event 'appalling' and offering assistance to the club and authorities.
Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram said a day that was meant to be about 'absolute celebration' had been tragically overshadowed. He urged the public not to speculate as investigations continue.
Merseyside Police have asked anyone with video footage or information to come forward as they piece together exactly what happened.

CAIRO – 6 June 2025: 42 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes on several areas in the Gaza Strip on Friday according to Palestinian media reports. An Israeli fighter jet struck a five-story residential building in Jabalia, northern Gaza, resulting in the deaths of three Palestinians and injuries to dozens more. According to medical sources, three Palestinians were also killed and others wounded after an Israeli combat drone targeted a charging point for cell phones between tents sheltering displaced people to the west of Khan Younis, WAFA reported. A child was also shot dead by Israeli troops near the Al-Saraya detention area in Khan Younis. Another civilian succumbed to injuries sustained in a previous Israeli strike on the city. Israeli strikes have also killed one Palestinian in the town of Abasan al-Kabira, east of Khan Yunis. In addition, eight Palestinians were killed and 61 injured in renewed massacres in Rafah City in the southern Gaza Strip on Friday. The victims were targeted while trying to reach recently established humanitarian aid sites in western Rafah on the first day of Eid Al Adha. Earlier Friday, 10 Palestinians were killed and others injured in an Israeli raid on homes in Jabalia. They were taken to the Al-Ahli Arab Baptist Hospital in Gaza City.

ICE Officers, Deportees Trapped in Djibouti Shipping Container
Taarek Refaat US federal court documents reveal that approximately 12 Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers (ICE) and eight deportees are suffering from illnesses and living in harsh conditions inside a metal shipping container in Djibouti. More than two weeks ago, Boston federal judge Brian E. Murphy halted a deportation flight transporting migrants from Cuba, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, and Mexico to South Sudan, ruling that the operation violated his April injunction, which prohibits deporting people to countries other than their home countries without giving them an opportunity to seek humanitarian protection. The judge ordered the responsible authorities to conduct humanitarian protection screenings in accordance with the Convention against Torture. Instead of returning them to the United States, authorities transported the migrants to Djibouti, where a shipping container was converted into a temporary detention center inside the only US military base in Africa, Camp Lemonnier. Melissa Harper, a senior immigration official, testified in court that three officers and eight detainees arrived at the base unprepared for potential hazards, such as extreme temperatures, air pollution, and the security threat from Yemen. She added that the officers were not provided with protective clothing or equipment, despite advance warnings of "an imminent threat of rocket attacks from groups in Yemen." Eid Prayers Cancelled as Fighting Erupts in Libya
By Ahmad El-Assasy Violent clashes broke out on Thursday between rival militias in the western Libyan city of Sabratha, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries, according to medical sources. The fighting was triggered by the killing of an armed fighter from the city of Zawiya, prompting fierce retaliation by his militia group. Local sources confirmed that a child from the Al-Dabbashi family was also killed during the exchanges of fire. The violence erupted after an assault on the "Liberton" beach resort, which is reportedly under the control of local militia leader Ahmed Al-Dabbashi, known as "Al-Amo." The facility was set on fire during the attack. As gunfire from medium and heavy weapons echoed throughout the city, authorities cancelled Eid Al-Adha prayers for public safety. In the wake of the violence, a video circulated online showing groups of irregular migrants fleeing detention facilities in Sabratha amid the ongoing clashes. The Libyan Red Crescent's Sabratha branch issued an urgent appeal to residents, urging them to stay indoors and avoid conflict zones. The organization warned that civilians were at serious risk and emphasized the need to prioritize their safety. The fighting involves Al-Dabbashi's militia, which has been linked to drug trafficking, and a rival group from Zawiya known as the "Far" militia, accused of smuggling fuel, narcotics, and human trafficking. In a video message released after the outbreak of violence, Ahmed Al-Dabbashi ("Al-Amo") declared his intention to expose all parties involved in migrant smuggling networks operating in the city. 'I will name everyone implicated in this dirty business — individuals and entities alike.
