Rahi: A Purified Memory is the Only Gateway to National Unity, Security, and Social Stability

Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rahi, considered that the words of His Excellency the President are worthy of being a reference for every citizen and every state official, because they offer the best, clearest, and most compassionate interpretation of two articles of the Constitution, and stand as an invitation to cleanse our memory of the sediments of a painful and hurtful past.
He said: "A society cannot be rebuilt unless each of its individuals, families, and various groups seek to break out of the conflictual relationships that marked the era of violence and to extinguish every desire for revenge," adding, "It is time for us to begin together to purify our memory through honest and frank dialogue, work towards rapprochement, and enhance balanced participation in governance and administration, with the aim of saving Lebanon and rebuilding it as the homeland of the message."
Patriarch Rahi's words came as he presided over Sunday Mass at Our Lady's Church in Bkerke this morning.
Rahi explained that achieving this "requires working together in essential matters with unity, in incidental matters with freedom, in all matters with love (Saint Augustine)."
He said, "Purifying memory is both courageous and selfless. But it is necessary for everyone because it is the only gateway to national unity and psychological, security, and social stability."

Hezbollah MP Slams Lebanese Ministers: Implementation of Gov't Obligations Can't Be Selective

Member of Hezbollah's Loyalty to Resistance MP Hasan Fadlallah slammed some ministers in the Lebanese government, noting that their remarks contradict with the ministerial statement. In an address during a local ceremony in the southern town of Zawtar Al-Sharqiya, MP Fadlallah said 'some positions we hear from members of the government aimed at evading the responsibilities they have committed to before the Lebanese people.' In this context, MP Fadlallah stressed that such responsibilities 'are the commitments on the basis of which the Lebanese government won the Parliament's confidence. 'Some of the government's members act as if the implementation of these obligations is a selective process based on what they desire, or on what is imposed on them by foreign powers' external dictates.' He explained that the ministerial statement stipulated that the Government is committed to reconstruction, defending the border and its people as well as taking all measures in order to liberate the land. 'Has the government implemented its commitments regarding reconstruction and the other two issues?' MP Fadlallah wondered. The Hezbollah lawmaker, meanwhile, called on these ministers to 'implement their commitments first.' 'We have nothing more to give, to anyone, in any way, whether in South Lebanon, or in any region. We have fulfilled our obligations at all levels.' 'The current government is obligated, according to the Constitution and legal text, to implement the provisions of the ministerial statement. We have nothing else to say. When they implement these provisions, we will talk about other matters.' Fadlallah remarks come as the Israeli enemy goes ahead with attacks on Lebanon, in violation of the ceasefire that ended the 66-day Israeli war. A Lebanese citizen was martyred at dawn on Saturday in an Israeli drone strike on his vehicle in the southern town of Deir Al-Zahrani.

LAF Commander Addresses Military Personnel on the Occasion of the Conclusion of Municipal and Mayoral Elections and Related Security Missions

Sunday, 25 May 2025 The LAF Commander addressed military personnel on the occasion of the conclusion of the municipal and mayoral elections and the related security missions: I extend my congratulations and appreciation to you for your honorable performance throughout the municipal and mayoral elections, during a particularly sensitive period marked by extraordinary challenges for our nation. Once again, you have proven yourselves worthy of the trust placed in you and the responsibilities you bear—demonstrating unwavering commitment and discipline, and standing as guardians of Lebanon's democratic character. Your efforts to ensure the proper conditions, resolve incidents with wisdom and professionalism, as well as pursue and arrest those who fired gunshots, all contributed to the success of this national milestone and projected a bright image of the LAF's role as a guarantor of stability and a protector of the Constitution. Our responsibility is immense, but my confidence in your resilience and dedication assures me that we will continue along the path of honor, sacrifice, and loyalty—no matter how great the challenges—in defense of our nation's security and the dignity of its people.

Judge temporarily blocks Trump admin from revoking Harvard enrollment of foreign students

A U.S. judge on Friday temporarily blocked the Trump administration from revoking Harvard University's ability to enroll foreign students, a policy the Ivy League school called part of President Donald Trump's broader effort to retaliate against it for refusing to "surrender its academic independence." The order, opens new tab provides temporary relief to thousands of international students who were faced with being forced to transfer under a policy that the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based university called a "blatant violation" of the U.S. Constitution and other federal laws, and said would have an "immediate and devastating effect" on the university and more than 7,000 visa holders. "Without its international students, Harvard is not Harvard," the 389-year-old school said in its lawsuit, opens new tab filed earlier on Friday in Boston federal court. Harvard enrolled nearly 6,800 international students in its current school year, equal to 27% of total enrollment. The move was the latest escalation in a broader battle between Harvard and the White House, as Trump seeks to compel universities, law firms, news media, courts and other institutions that value independence from partisan politics to align with his agenda. Trump and fellow Republicans have long accused elite universities of left-wing bias. Harvard has pushed back hard against Trump, having previously sued to restore nearly $3 billion in federal grants that had been frozen or canceled. In recent weeks, the administration has proposed ending Harvard's tax-exempt status and hiking taxes on its endowment, and opened an investigation into whether it violated civil rights laws. Leo Gerden, a Swedish student set to graduate Harvard with an undergraduate degree in economics and government this month, called the judge's ruling a "great first step" but said international students were bracing for a long legal fight that would keep them in limbo. "There is no single decision by Trump or by Harvard or by a judge that is going to put an end to this tyranny of what Trump is doing," Gerden said. In its complaint, Harvard said the revocation would force it to retract admissions for thousands of people, and has thrown "countless" academic programs, clinics, courses and research laboratories into disarray, just a few days before graduation. It said the revocation was a punishment for Harvard's "perceived viewpoint," which it called a violation of the right to free speech as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution's First Amendment. The Trump administration may appeal U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs' ruling. In a statement, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said, "unelected judges have no right to stop the Trump Administration from exercising their rightful control over immigration policy and national security policy.' Since Trump's inauguration on January 20, his administration has accused several universities of indifference toward the welfare of Jewish students during widespread campus protests against Israel's military campaign in Gaza. Harvard's court challenges over the administration's policies stand in contrast to its New York-based peer Columbia University's concessions to similar pressure. Columbia agreed to reform disciplinary processes and review curricula for courses on the Middle East, after Trump pulled $400 million in funding over allegations the Ivy League school had not done enough to combat antisemitism. In announcing on Thursday the termination of Harvard's Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification, effective starting in the 2025-2026 academic year, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, without providing evidence, accused the university of "fostering violence, antisemitism, and coordinating with the Chinese Communist Party." Harvard says a fifth of its foreign students in 2024 were from China. U.S. lawmakers from both parties have expressed concerns about the influence of the Chinese government on U.S. college campuses, including efforts by Beijing-directed Chinese student associations to monitor political activities and stifle academic speech.
