Man accused of killing cellmate in Oklahoma County's jail
Authorities are investigating a suspected homicide inside the Oklahoma County Detention Center.
According to a statement, a detention officer conducting routine safety checks around 2 a.m. on April 25 discovered evidence of an altercation between two inmates housed in the same cell.
One injured inmate, 40-year-old Clinton Pike, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Pike had been in custody since Feb. 21 and was recently sentenced on charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
The Oklahoma County Detention Center Criminal Investigation Division said its preliminary investigation indicates that Pike was assaulted by a 20-year-old cellmate. The Oklahoman is not naming the man because he has not been formally charged.
The suspect had been in the county jail since April 11 on a charge of robbery/attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.
"Acts of violence within the Oklahoma County Detention Center will not be tolerated," said Paul Timmons, interim chief executive officer of the Oklahoma County Criminal Justice Authority. "Our Criminal Investigation Division is committed to conducting a thorough and diligent investigation. The safety and security of every individual in our custody remains our top priority, and we will continue to take all necessary steps to uphold that standard."

ISIS supporter Nasir Tawhedi pleads guilty for planning Election Day terror attack
An Afghan national who had ties to the CIA has pleaded guilty to two federal crimes over his thwarted plot to carry out a terrorism attack last November on Election Day in support of ISIS. Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, 27, made the plea through a translator on Friday, June 13, in Oklahoma City federal court. A jury trial had been set for next year but Tawhedi waived that right during the hearing. U.S. District Judge Scott Palk will decide his punishment later. The maximum possible prison sentence for the two crimes is 35 years. Tawhedi and his brother-in-law, Abdullah Haji Zada, were arrested Oct. 7, 2024 at a rural Oklahoma location after purchasing two AK-47 rifles and 500 rounds of ammunition, the FBI reported in a court affidavit. The purchase came during a meeting with an undercover FBI employee and two FBI sources. Tawhedi admitted after his arrest that the two bought the guns to commit an attack on Election Day "targeting large gatherings of people," according to the affidavit. Tawhedi said they expected to die in the Nov. 5 attack and be martyrs. Earlier in 2024, Tawhedi used his Google account to access webcams for the White House and Washington Monument, according to the affidavit. Under a deal, Tawhedi pleaded guilty to a felony conspiracy count for his attempt to provide support to a foreign terrorism organization. He also pleaded guilty to a felony count of receipt of guns and ammunition to commit terrorism. Before agreeing to a plea deal, Tawhedi had faced three felony counts with a maximum punishment of 55 years. At the time of the arrest, Tawhedi was living with his wife and daughter in an Oklahoma City apartment. He arrived in the United States in 2021 from Afghanistan and moved to Oklahoma in December 2023. He had been working as an auto mechanic. He had worked for the CIA in Afghanistan as a security guard, NBC News reported last wife filed for divorce in Cleveland County District Court in January, one day after their second child was born. The case is pending. Zada, now 18, pleaded guilty in April to a felony count of receipt of guns and ammunition to commit terrorism. He is awaiting sentencing. He is the brother of Tawhedi's wife and also is an Afghan national. He has been in the United States since 2018. At the time of his arrest, Zada was living in Moore with his parents and siblings. He was a virtual student at Southmoore High School. Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond pointed to the plot to carry out a mass shooting in support of ISIS when he called for the expulsion of all Afghan refugees from Oklahoma. ISIS was largely defeated in Iraq in 2017 and in Syria in 2019 by a U.S.-led military campaign. The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, however, continues to attract people from across the world to join its ranks. OKC police officer shoots, kills man during confrontation while trying to serve warrant
Police shot and killed a 40-year-old man during what they described as a "confrontation" while trying to serve a warrant in a southeast Oklahoma City neighborhood. Shortly before 6 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, detectives with the Oklahoma City Police Department were serving a sex-crimes search warrant at a home in the 5200 block of Evanbrook Terrace. Police said the suspect, Jose Antonio Martinez, had been wanted by investigators for over a week on allegations of first-degree rape and forcible oral sodomy. According to a redacted report from an arresting officer, as police attempted to conduct the search warrant, Martinez exited the house and fled southbound on foot. The report also states that "an officer later confronted (Martinez) in an open field north of the house." That officer, Sgt. Justin Kuehn, found Martinez after the suspect "had thrown his firearm over a fence and was attempting to retrieve it," according to a news release. More: Ex-stepfather sentenced to 61 years in prison after sex abuse of stepson in Oklahoma County Police also said Kuehn ordered Martinez to stop, but Martinez ignored Kuehn's commands and reached down to pick up the firearm, according to the news release. The accompanying officer's police report said that Kuehn then fired his service weapon, striking and killing Martinez. Portions of the officer's report that were not redacted, however, did not mention Martinez having a gun. When asked why the police report was redacted, Sgt. Dillon Quirk, a spokesman for the Oklahoma City Police Department, said the agency "redacts according to what (it) must release." He also said that an incident report from one officer doesn't always contain all of the information regarding a situation and that further supplemental reports from other officers with different responsibilities contribute to an investigation. Police said Martinez had been accused of raping a juvenile and an adult. Quirk also said Kuehn, who has seven years of service, was still on routine administrative leave and the shooting was still under investigation as of Monday, June 9. Tipton County detective honored by FBI for work on child exploitation case
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Tipton County detective was honored by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for her work on a child sexual exploitation case in January. On June 4, FBI Supervisory Special Agent Taneka Harris Blacknell and other members of her team presented Detective Tonia Bruno a letter and certificate of appreciation. In a social media post describing the event, Tipton County Sheriff Shannon Beasley said that in 2023, Detective Bruno and other members of the Criminal Investigation Division executed a search warrant on a convicted and registered sex offender, Austin Lineback. ORIGINAL STORY: TN man facing state, federal child sex crimes charges Items of evidentiary value, along with electronic devices, were seized and presented as evidence at the trial. Lineback was eventually found guilty on multiple charges, such as violation of the sex offender act and one count of sexual exploitation of a minor, and is facing 10 to 20 years in federal prison. In a letter to Sheriff Beasley, Special Agent Blackwell wrote the following, 'Detective Bruno's testimony was professional, skilled and thorough. Detective Bruno's expertise and passionate pursuit of justice were pivotal to the success of the joint investigation and directly improved the safety of Tipton County.' Bruno was also issued the Certificate of Appreciation by Special Agent Blacknell, from the FBI and Director Kash Patel. 'We are extremely proud of the work Detective Bruno does for our office and to have our partners at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recognize her efforts just highlights the diligent work she does for Tipton Countians,' Sheriff Beasley said.
