Emily Lang is poised to snatch an incredible slice of riding history and become the first female jockey to claim the Brisbane riding title … and now she has an unexpected shot at her biggest career win.
It seems inevitable that history will be created in Brisbane this season with apprentice Lang (57 wins) and Angela Jones (50 wins) leading the city title race ahead of James Orman (45) who is now riding in Hong Kong.
Next in the race are Andrew Mallyon and Bailey Wheeler, both with 42 wins.
Lang, who is apprenticed to champion trainer Tony Gollan, has enjoyed a breakthrough season and has won a pair of Listed races but never a Group race.
She now gets an unforeseen chance to scoop her biggest career win when riding Boomtown Boss for Gollan in the rescheduled $300,000 Group 3 Fred Best Classic at Doomben on Wednesday.

Blake Shinn had originally been booked to ride Boomtown Boss in the Fred Best before a foot injury last week ruled him out of the winter carnival.
With Lang suspended, Ryan Maloney had been slated to step in to ride Boomtown Boss in the Fred Best at Eagle Farm last Saturday.
But the race, which offers the winner a golden ticket into the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap, was been rescheduled to Doomben on Wednesday after the it was among a cluster of races postponed when jockeys opted to stop riding at Eagle Farm last Saturday due to poor visibility.
It means Lang can return from suspension and take the prized mount.

The duo has previously enjoyed success together including claiming the Listed Daybreak Lover.
'Emily and I are a while away from focusing on riding premierships for her, we will worry about that in July,' Gollan said.
'At the moment, this ride in the Fred Best is a good reward for her.
'Blake was on and Emily was suspended but it's great for her now to put back on the horse in a good race.
'Whether it can springboard her into something else the following weekend or later in the carnival, who knows.
'Whatever the result, I am really happy to have Emily riding this horse in this race, that is for sure.'

This time last week, Boomtown Boss was a $13 chance to win the Fred Best.
But with the race rescheduled and now at Doomben instead of Eagle Farm, he is a $23 chance in latest betting.
'For me, personally, I would prefer this race to be at Eagle Farm rather than Doomben,' Gollan conceded.
'I think this horse would be better at Eagle Farm with the bigger track and more room.
'The race presents a lot differently around Doomben and there's not as much room for error.
'He can have an error or two in the way he races, because he's not a finished product yet. But he's definitely up to the grade.'

The founder of a famed eco resort, co-owned by Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman, has listed his newest venture for sale before the first guests even arrive. Three years in the making, EcoView Retreat was developed over a 28.06ha rainforest parcel next to Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat in Tallebudgera Valley. The $9m project at 660 Trees Rd is for sale through an expressions of interest campaign with Kollosche Commercial agents Adam and Tony Grbcic. Adam Grbcic said the facility accommodated 30 guests over 15 luxury villas, offering an estimated annual revenue of $2m. It would be sold with forward bookings and an option to retain the current on-site manager. The first group of guests were scheduled to arrive within days for a corporate event. Rates started at $6,7000 per day to hire the entire retreat. 'I am equally excited to be simultaneously bringing it to market, opening up the opportunity for a savvy investor to own and expand on this incredibly unique and highly profitable business concept and commercial offering. 'With Nature-Based Tourism zoning approved for wellness and retreat activities and operations, the versatility and flexibility of EcoView means its potential is bound only by the imagination.' Potential uses included boutique weddings, corporate retreats, medical health or rehabilitation recovery clinics, private family gatherings, or even silent discos. Mr Grbcic said EcoView would suit an Australian investor seeking a 'hands-off' asset, given the low-maintenance business model requiring only one full-time staffer. 'Everything required to operate this as a successful and profitable business has already been carefully considered and tested. Every detail, down to the crockery in the kitchen, is ready and in place,' he said. 'Having said that, extensive potential remains, not only within the existing space, but on the wider property to expand on what are already promising income returns.' Offering complete privacy and magical views of the valley and coastline, the retreat tapped into an evolving global trend for more sustainable nature-based and wellness experiences. Alongside the twin-share villas, the property includes a main building with a reception area, commercial-grade kitchen, shared living and dining spaces and five multipurpose rooms, as well as a manager's residence. Additional facilities include a yoga room or conference space, gym with three infra-red saunas, hydrotherapy pools and outdoor leisure spaces. Property records show Mr De Leede acquired the parcel for $1.975m in 2005. Gwinganna was also listed for sale in 2022, but failed to secure a buyer. Mr De Leede said he remained open to selling the larger asset. Expressions of interest close on July 3.

Hawthorn's Massimo D'Ambrosio has traded footy drills for espresso shots, helping sell a mate's home that could've doubled as his nonna's. In an exclusive to the Herald Sun, it can be revealed the rising AFL talent has joined the campaign for 23 Murdo Rd, Clayton as a proud property ambassador, bringing heart, heritage and a touch of la dolce vita to a much-loved listing. The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home sits on a generous 715sq m block and is being sold through Buxton Oakleigh auctioneer Dimitri Damianos, with strong appeal for both families and developers. While the 21-year-old isn't the owner, he's an Italian friend of the vendors, and the home's nostalgic charm, from its manicured gardens to its fruit-laden trees, instantly struck a chord. 'He grew up around homes like this,' Mr Damianos said. 'The fruit trees, the layout, the smell of cooking in the air, it reminds him of his grandparents' place. 'His Italian roots are a big part of who he is, and this home really captured that.' D'Ambrosio, who was drafted by Essendon in the 2022 mid-season draft and played a breakout season for Hawthorn in 2024, visited the home this week and Mr Daminos bonded instantly with the owners over coffee, cannoli and shared Sicilian roots. 'There was this hilarious moment where he spotted some gaggiu fruit — loquats — in the yard and called it out immediately,' he said. 'I had no idea what it was — the family gave me grief for that. 'But Massimo was in his element.' Inside, the home features original Sortino furniture — a brand that rivalled Franco Cozzo, as well as polished timber floors and a layout made for family gatherings. With the matriarch now moving into aged care and managing health issues the family is parting with the home after decades of milestones and Sunday lunches, and they're hoping it finds new owners who'll love it just as much. 'This place has hosted countless birthdays, barbecues and celebrations,' Mr Damianos said. 'It's full of love, and now the campaign is, too.' Auction day is set to be a full-blown Italian celebration, complete with coffee, cannoli, and, if his schedule allows an appearance from D'Ambrosio himself. Clayton continues to be one of Melbourne's most in-demand pockets, with PropTrack data showing house prices have climbed more than 36 per cent over the past five years, driven by strong buyer demand, proximity to Monash University and the Victorian Heart Hospital, and excellent rail and retail connections. But Front Page is lucky to be even in this world after his late mother Stacey Lee suffered horrific leg injuries in the paddock nine years ago. We bought her as a weanling so we had her all our life and raised her and she was super tough. 'We found a lady, Suzanne Royal at Asscher Park near Violet Town, who was a vet nurse and she took her on and did a remarkable job in fixing her. 'She not only came good with barely any scarring but she kept her foal as well. 'Every one of her progeny has won. I strapped her nearly every start of her life and she was a very good racemare. 'She could run times that Front Page can't run. She hurt her knee at Caulfield one day early in her career and she was never really the same, even though she won five races.' The Duryea racing family has fond memories of their smart racemare and producer Stacey Lee. • Queensland Oaks tips, runner-by-runner form analysis Stacey Lee also survived floodwaters at broodmare farm Noorilim Park near Nagambie, Victoria in November, 2022 so her toughness and tenacity are undeniable. 'They put her foal (Corningstone) in a boat and Stacey Lee actually swam a kilometre by the boat to get out of the floods so she's had a few dramas,' Duryea said. 'Not only did she save herself but she saved her foal too. Unfortunately about six months later Stacey Lee got crook and we couldn't save her, she had to be put down. 'What Stacey Lee has done for us is unbelievable.' In an amusing sidenote to what could have been a tragic story, the rescued foal was named after the movie character Veronica Corningstone, portrayed by Christina Applegate in the blockbuster hit comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Fast-forward to Saturday and Front Page, who has won $3.4m in prizemoney, has a golden opportunity to continue her mum's legacy in the $300,000 Moreton Cup. • 'We were very confident': Payline can again defy odds in Kingsford Smith Cup He is also accepted for the Listed Bob Charley AO Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on Saturday but Duryea said he would instead likely race in Brisbane where Tim Clark will ride. Asked about potentially running in the Stradbroke, Duryea said: 'If he was to win (the Moreton Cup) then we would consider it but it depends on how he pulls up. 'But, touch wood, he hasn't had any dramas or niggles for 12 months or more now. 'But being an automatic entry for the winner, we would consider the Straddie and hopefully we get that option.' Goulburn's Dale took over the training of Front Page from Duryea's dad Geoff in mid-2023. The winner of seven races from 28 starts, Front Page has twice placed in Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m), including a runner-up behind Private Harry on March 22 at Rosehill Gardens. He finished a disappointing 11th in the $5m The Quokka (1200m) in Perth in late April but Dale said the gelding didn't appreciate running 'the Melbourne way'.
