NDMC vice chairperson inspects water ATMs to ensure uninterrupted service during summer
New Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Council Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal on Thursday inspected water ATMs installed across areas under the council to ensure uninterrupted services during the summer season.
Expressing satisfaction over their functioning, Chahal said 34 of the 37 water ATMs are operational, while the remaining three have minor non-technical issues which would be resolved soon.
These water ATMs have been set up for public convenience. Directions have been issued to resolve the issues in the remaining machines promptly, Chahal said.
The Water ATM project was launched under the Smart City Mission during 2018–19 on a Public-Private Partnership model for design, finance, installation, operation and maintenance over a period of seven years.
Under the project, citizens can avail clean drinking water at ₹1 per 300 ml served in eco-friendly paper cups or personal containers, in an effort to discourage the use of single-use plastic bottles.
"Seven of these ATMs, mostly located in parks, provide water free of cost, while the remaining 30 charge ₹1," Chahal said.
He appreciated the NDMC Water Supply Department for taking over the operations and maintenance of the ATMs after the expiry of the Annual Maintenance Contract with the original agency.
Timely maintenance and intervention will help NDMC improve its sanitation ranking in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan and contribute to the national goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047, he said.
Chahal said the Prime Minister envisions India as a developed nation by 2047 where basic amenities are easily accessible and urban services are clean and sustainable.
"NDMC's initiative is a step towards realising this vision at the local level," he said.
Emphasising the importance of surprise inspections, Chahal said such checks help ensure quality public services and also motivate staff, contributing to NDMC's overall efficiency and development.

‘Will launch pilot project to install solar houses in Haryana soon': Khattar on Vij's proposal
The Ministry of Power 'will soon launch a pilot project to install solar houses across Haryana', Union Energy Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Friday, adding that if successful, it will eventually be expanded to other states. A solar house, also known as a solar home system (SHS), utilises solar panels to generate electricity from sunlight, which can then be used to power a home's electrical needs. The system can either be on-grid (connect to power grid) or off-grid (operate independently of grid). The announcement came after Haryana Energy Minister Anil Vij — during the Regional Power Conference with northern states and union territories, in Chandigarh on Friday — suggested the construction of solar houses in Haryana villages, to 'meet farmers' rising power needs'. Currently, many in Haryana villages have 10-kilowatt (kW) solar panels, Vij said. 'For higher capacity needs, dedicated solar houses will be more feasible. They require reliable electricity supply for agricultural activities, regardless of the source — solar, Bhakra or power central pool. Thus, a comprehensive solar project should be implemented to benefit all the stakeholders.' 'The state government has been working on promoting the use of solar energy across Haryana, so that it becomes self-reliant in the power sector. The Energy Department should run a pilot project to install solar houses across Haryana, and if successful, it could be expanded to other regions of the state,' Vij added. Khattar said India's renewable energy share in the total installed power capacity has increased to 49 per cent in April 2025 from 32 per cent in 2014. The minister said states should also work on having an adequate power generation mix, including the addition of nuclear generation capacity while meeting their resource adequacy plan. He also pointed out that states should complete the installation of prepaid smart metres in government establishments and colonies by August 2025 and for all commercial, industrial and high-load consumers by November 2025. States should work towards listing power sector utilities to generate additional resources and improve transparency and governance, the minister noted. 'We successfully met a peak demand of 250 GW in May 2024 and India has transformed from power-deficit to a power-sufficient nation and as of today, peak demand shortage is zero,' he said. He outlined the importance of continuous cooperation and coordination between central and state governments in achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047. India's peak electricity demand is projected to reach 446 GW by 2034-35 and meeting this sustainably requires proactive planning and continued coordination between the centre, states, and stakeholders, the minister said. He also advised states to implement Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) Guidelines and urged them to form dedicated teams for this critical planning. The minister highlighted the importance of cyber-security measures and islanding schemes as effective measures to prevent power outages due to cyber concerns and enable the resilience of the grid. Earlier, Vij urged Khattar to approve the 'viability gap funding for a 600 megawatt-hour (MWh) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Haryana', while requesting 'early approval' for Rs 3,179.47-crore proposals under the Revised Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) to strengthen supply systems in Sonepat and Jhajjar, and Rs 142 crore for the pending proposal of a 33 kV substation augmentation under the LRP plan. The Haryana Energy Minister also proposed a policy to 'regulate the installation of poles, substations and transmission lines' on agricultural fields and residential areas, in a bid to prevent inconvenience to stakeholders, while suggesting 'underground cabling' in densely populated or sensitive areas. Be stakeholders in Viksit Bharat vision: UMoS Defence
Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government is working tirelessly with a vision to create a strong, self-reliant and self-sufficient developed country for future generations. While addressing the media during his visit to the BJP State Headquarters on Friday, the Minister noted that the Modi-3.0 administration will complete one year on June 9. Over the past 11 years, the government has operated with the motto 'Nation First,' aligned with the Viksit Bharat 2047 agenda. He emphasised that India has surpassed Japan and is now the fourth-largest economy in the world. Economists project that India could become the third largest economy, surpassing Germany, with a five trillion USD economy by 2027. Sanjay Seth urged BJP party activists and the public to actively participate in the Viksit Bharat agenda. He pointed out that previously, India was a major importer of defense equipment and had not achieved self-reliance in fulfilling a significant portion of its defense needs through domestic production. However, the country is now exporting defense equipment to around 90 countries. He highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the Indian defense forces demonstrated their valor during Operation Sindoor, which successfully destroyed nine terrorist hubs inside Pakistan in just 22 minutes. This operation showcases India's military prowess and the preparedness of its forces. Additionally, the Minister mentioned the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, which involves the mass plantation of saplings across the country. He said that Tiranga Yatras are being organised even in villages, as the local populations wished to express their support for the soldiers guarding the borders thousands of miles away. Earlier, during a meeting with senior leaders of the state party, BJP National Vice-President and Mahbubnagar MP DK Aruna honored Sanjay Seth for his contributions.
