Simone Biles shares cryptic message amid Riley Gaines trans athlete feud after deleting X account

Daily Mail5 hours ago

Simone Biles might have deleted her X account after her feud with Riley Gaines, but the Olympian is still speaking out on Instagram.
Biles apologized for getting personal while attacking Gaines for her anti-trans campaigning earlier this month, telling the former swimmer to 'bully someone your own size, which would ironically be a male.'
After intensifying scrutiny, the Olympian deactivated her account on Sunday but shared a quote on her Instagram story on Monday that read: 'Strength is what we gain from the madness we survive'.
Biles initially sparked her feud with Gaines when the OutKick host criticized a Minnesota high school softball team for competing with a trans pitcher. During her swimming career, Gaines competed against trans athlete Lia Thomas at an NCAA meet in Atlanta, tying for fifth.
'You're truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser,' Biles wrote on X three weeks ago after Gaines called out the Minnesota team.
'You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports.
'Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!! But instead… You bully them… One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!'
Four days later, Biles publicly apologized on X, writing: 'I wanted to follow up from my last tweets. I've always believed competitive equity & inclusivity are both essential in sport.
'The current system doesn't adequately balance these important principles, which often leads to frustration and heated exchanges, and it didn't help for me to get personal with Riley, which I apologize for.'
Gaines replied: 'I accept Simone's apology for the personal attacks including the ones where she body-shamed me. I know she knows what this feels like. She's still the greatest female gymnast of all time.'
In a lengthy apology, Biles also admitted she didn't have the answers on how to include trans athletes in sports in a way that keeps everyone happy - seemingly acknowledging how polarazing her criticism of Gaines had been.
Biles wrote: 'These are sensitive, complicated issues that I truly don't have the answers or solutions to, but I believe it starts with empathy and respect. I was not advocating for policies that compromise fairness in women's sports. My objection is to be singling out children for public scrutiny in ways that feel personal and harmful.
'Individual athletes — especially kids — should never be the focus of criticism of a flawed system they have no control over.
'I believe sports organizations have a responsibility to come up with rules supporting inclusion while maintaining fair competition. We all want a future for sport that is fair, inclusive, and respectful.'
Biles deleted her account on X over the weekend after the Gaines feud had spilled out
Biles' apology was shared by her husband - the NFL player for the Chicago Bears, Jonathan Owens - on Instagram.
Gaines caught Biles' eye by mocking the Minnesota state softball champions Champlin Park, who won their competition with a dominant trans pitcher in Marissa Rothenberger.
She retweeted a picture of a team celebration on X, writing: 'Comments off lol. To be expected when your star player is a boy.'
Gaines had also made her opposition clear on the controversial AB Hernandez, who has even faced protests from her own competititors while competing in California last month.
One athlete, who finished second to Hernandez at a different meet last month, waited for male-born Hernandez to step down from the podium before taking what Gaines decribed as her 'rightful place' in the No 1 spot for a picture - while also describing Hernandez as 'a fraud'.
Days after Biles went after her on social media, Gaines announced she is pregnant wth her first child.

Sportsworld The Warm Up Track 2025: Hamish Kerr – How to win a jump-off for Olympic gold

New Zealand's Hamish Kerr had a golden 2024. He was one of a handful of athletes who won the World Indoors in March, and then followed it up with an Olympic title at the Games in Paris. But Hamish almost missed that final. He was facing elimination in the qualifying round at the Stade de France. After two failures at 2.20 metres, he tells us he thought about retiring if he failed again and crashed out of the Olympics. Hamish explains how, after going to that 'dark place', he knew he had the mental strength to win gold in the final. At the previous Olympics in Tokyo, Mutaz Barshim and Gianmarco Tamberi had elected to share the High Jump gold medal and not to enter a jump-off to determine the winner. Hamish describes how early on in his final he began to wonder whether he'd have to make the same decision. As it turned out, he and Shelby McEwen did finish the competition with identical records and couldn't be separated. So why did they choose to jump-off for gold? It's the High Jump's equivalent of a penalty shoot-out in football, and both men had already been out there competing for several hours. Why did Hamish believe he'd cope with that situation better? We find out why food was on his mind as he stood waiting to take the jump that could win him the Olympic title. Hamish also describes the moment during that attempt when he knew he would clear the bar and claim the gold. As for the celebrations afterwards, when he ran into the middle of the infield to bow to the capacity crowd, how much thought had gone into that? After all, the women's Javelin final had been taking place, making that potentially a pretty dangerous place to be! Hamish also talks about his rise through the sport; from winning Commonwealth gold, to the World Indoor title and then the Olympic Games. He takes us inside his mindset, and explains how and why 'old Hamish' needed to change in order to be challenging for those medals. Pirates edge Brewers on Nick Gonzales' 5-hit night

June 24 - Isiah Kiner-Falefa tripled in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning and Nick Gonzales had five hits as the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates held on for a 5-4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday in the opener of a three-game series. Gonzales had two doubles and three singles, driving in two runs, and Tommy Pham homered for the Pirates, who won back-to-back games for the first time since a four-game streak June 6-9. The Brewers had their four-game winning streak snapped. Chase Shugart (4-3) got the win in relief. David Bednar finished with a scoreless ninth for his 11th save in 11 opportunities. The Brewers threatened in the ninth when Caleb Durbin singled to open the inning, but he was caught stealing when he slid past second for the first out of the inning. Pittsburgh went in front 5-4 with a run in the sixth off reliever Nick Mears (1-1) when Pham singled with one out and Kiner-Falefa tripled to right. Christian Yelich brought the Brewers even at 4-all in the fifth with his 15th homer, a two-run shot down the right field line off Shugart. Pham staked the Pirates to a 3-0 lead with a two-run homer in the fourth. Ke'Bryan Hayes walked with one out and Pham followed with his first homer, sending the first pitch 416 feet to center. The Brewers got two back in the bottom half against Hunter Stratton, who relieved Braxton Ashcraft to open the inning. Yelich walked and William Contreras and Brice Turang singled to make it 3-1. Isaac Collins blooped a single into shallow right to load the bases and Durbin followed with a sacrifice fly. Pittsburgh made it 4-2 in fifth when Bryan Reynolds doubled to open and scored on a single by Gonzales. The Pirates took a 1-0 lead after two outs in the first when Reynolds singled and Gonzales followed with an RBI double to left-center. Pirates rookie right-hander Ashcraft, making his first major league start after seven relief appearances, allowed one hit over three scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Brewers rookie starter Chad Patrick gave up four runs on nine hits in five innings, with a career-high nine strikeouts. --Field Level Media

BREAKING NEWS Boston Celtics trade away two-time NBA champion as rebuild begins after failing to defend title

The Boston Celtics have traded away a major piece of their 2024 championship-winning team as they continue to deal with the aftermath of losing star Jayson Tatum for the rest of the season. Boston traded starting point guard Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers in a late-night move just two days before the NBA Draft. In exchange, the Trail Blazers sent back shooting guard Anfernee Simons and two second round picks. It's something of a return for Holiday, who was sent to Portland by the Milwaukee Bucks in the Damian Lillard trade back in 2023. Holiday never played for Portland, as Boston traded for the player and sent the Trail Blazers two first round picks in 2024 (which the Blazers used to draft Bub Carrington) and in 2029.
