'Highly pathogenic' bird flu case sparks cull
Bird flu has been found at a commercial poultry site on the Wirral, the Animal and Plant Health Agency said.
All birds at the site near Bromborough will be "humanely culled" after the discovery of the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPIA) HN52 strain.
A 3km (1.8 miles) protection zone and 10km (6.2 miles) surveillance zone was declared around the area on Sunday.
Anybody entering or leaving the premises must take biosecurity measures to "reduce the risk of the spread of avian influenza", the agency added.
People must also keep records of the movement of eggs.
Birds must be housed or isolated and should only be moved with permission of a vet or inspector, officials added.
People keeping poultry and other captive birds must also take special measures.
The Animal and Plant Health Agency also conformed a case near Bodmin in Cornwall.

MTV's Ananda Lewis Dies at 52
Ananda Lewis, a former MTV VJ, has died at the age of 52. Lakshmi Emory, whom Lewis once described as a 'phenomenal sister' in a birthday message, shared news of her death in a June 11 Facebook post. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she discovered that her tumor had grown and underwent genetically targeted fractionated chemotherapy, which is a treatment that destroys cancer cells without harming healthy ones, according to Cleveland Clinic. However, a PET scan done in October 2023 confirmed that her cancer had progressed to Stage 4 cancer. This time, she shared that she underwent treatment at an integrative facility. While Lewis had previously said she regretted refusing to undergo mammograms out of fear of radiation exposure, she urged the importance of women getting informed and learning about prevention. In her 2025 Essence piece, she wrote, 'Going into 2025, I would say to women: Do everything in your power to avoid my story becoming yours. If I had known what I know now 10 years ago, perhaps I wouldn't have ended up here.' Adding, 'I encourage people to look at the information and studies that exist. Claims spread Trump wore catheter at UFC event. Here's what we know
On June 9, 2025, a photograph of U.S. President Donald Trump spread online, claiming he was wearing a catheter under his suit while at an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event. The photograph in question showed fighter Kayla Harrison, who had just won the UFC women's bantamweight championship bout, putting her victor's belt around Trump's waist. A number of posts on X, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok made this claim. One post stated: Trump is absolutely wearing a Foley catheter. It's a tube inserted into the bladder to drain urine into a bag strapped to the leg. That line down his pants? Not a crease. It's tubing. Every step he takes sounds like the sloshing of a warm Capri Sun (Instagram user "oldrowofficial") We looked closely at footage of the 78-year-old president walking around at the event, as well as photographs of him alongside Harrison. At this time, we were unable to independently confirm whether he wore a catheter under his suit. White House spokesperson Steven Cheung denied the claim in an email: The President has been the most transparent president in history, and the recent medical report that was released clearly and unequivocally shows he is in peak condition. (The White House) In most available press images showing Trump interacting with Harrison, or standing around at the UFC event, his upper leg is shadowed by his suit jacket making it difficult to determine if the bulge was just a fold in the pant leg or something else. According to the Cleveland Clinic, a "Foley catheter" is a device that "drains urine from your urinary bladder into a collection bag outside of your body when you can't pee on your own or for various medical reasons." Images from the website show a narrow tube connecting to a bag that collects urine. The following YouTube video compiles a range of clips of Trump walking into the UFC arena and interacting with Harrison. At the 32-second mark, Harrison puts her championship belt over his shoulder. We paused at numerous moments in the clip and found there was a noticeable shadow on Trump's leg but no evidence of a bulge as he stood at that angle. It is possible the bulge was visible when Harrison wrapped the belt around Trump's waist, pulling his pants back. However, there is no way to independently verify whether this bulge is from a catheter. We also zoomed in on the image in question and found a similar shadow on Trump's other leg, indicating that the bulge is likely also just a result of the angle of the light. (Instagram user "oldrowofficial") Many have been also claiming from other photographs at the White House that Trump was wearing a secret "leg brace" under his suit after his stumble while climbing Air Force One. In April 2025, White House physician Capt. Sean Barbabella said Trump was in "excellent health." Trump has frequently been the subject of speculation around his health. Alabama IVF ruling looms over 2026 statewide elections

The decision halted IVF treatments across the state and started a debate that is now looming over upcoming statewide elections. Alabama Supreme Court Jay Mitchell wrote in a majority opinion that an 1872 law allowing civil lawsuits over the wrongful death of children also applied to frozen embryos, saying that the Wrongful Death of a Minor Act 'provides a cause of action for the death of any 'minor child,' without exception or limitation.' Democrats appear determined to use the opinion — which drew national criticism and led to a swift move from the GOP-controlled Legislature to pass a law intended to protect IVF access — in the coming race. His opponent, Pamela Casey, also seeking the Republican nomination for attorney general, publicly called IVF a 'miracle.' 'Today and everyday, I am thankful for the miracle of IVF that made me a momma x2. Why does my baby boy look so grown?' Casey said in a caption of a photo of her two children on Facebook. In another post, she said, 'Infertility and IVF is not political for me. It is personal.' Casey was not available for an interview. SUPPORT: YOU MAKE OUR WORK POSSIBLE The ruling, which stemmed from wrongful death lawsuits filed by couples whose frozen embryos were destroyed in an accident, sparked widespread alarm among patients and medical professionals. Despite the state law, advocates and patients emphasize that the future of IVF in Alabama remains uncertain and a significant concern for voters. AshLeigh Dunham, an attorney at Magic City Fertility Law and a referee in Jefferson County's Juvenile Court who is running as a Democrat for an Alabama Supreme Court seat, is putting her own experiences with IVF at the center of her campaign. 'I want your family to be able to get the care that they need, the medical care that they need, the food and stability that they need,' Dunham said in a phone interview Tuesday. 'So that's what I'm telling everyone is that I'm pro family. If your family needs IVF to expand and to start, then by all means, you deserve to have IVF, and a state should not actually be able to limit that.' After years of unsuccessful treatments in Alabama and advice from her fertility doctor, Dunham and her husband traveled to Oregon in 2020. There, she experienced a 'completely different' and more individualized IVF process, which led to three viable embryos and the successful birth of her daughter. 'We have very intelligent doctors, but I think right now, they're a little bit limited in what they can do … For those who fit in the box, the clinics here are wonderful and even the ones who get more individualized care, it is great. But for me, I didn't fit,' Dunham said. Dunham called the Alabama Supreme Court's decision 'disdainful' and 'horrendous.' She believes the ruling, which granted personhood status to embryos, creates a conflict with IVF. 'Once you create personhood status, you cannot have IVF and personhood. They cannot coexist,' Dunham said. Corinn O'Brien, an IVF patient and head of Fight for Alabama Families, an organization advocating for IVF access in Alabama, said in an interview that IVF remains a critical issue. O'Brien, who is nine months pregnant after successful treatment, said that the temporary protection offered by the IVF immunity law is 'tenuous at best and could be overturned.' 'We're still fighting for more permanent protection of IVF, whether that be more legislation, whether that be a constitutional amendment, we're still identifying the pathway,' O'Brien said. 'I think the fact that we're still having conversations about it shows everyone we're not done. We still have work to do.' O'Brien pointed to the stress and uncertainty that patients continue to face, even after the new law, due to looming legal threats, saying that families who need or have gone through IVF feel like a 'political football' in the debate. 'There is nothing literally more pro-family than helping families welcome more children into the world. And that's just common sense,' O'Brien said. IVF providers are still concerned about long-term IVF access. Dr. Mamie McLean, an IVF provider with Alabama Fertility in Birmingham, said that infertility affects one in six couples, making it a relevant issue for many families in Alabama. 'We believe that the status of IVF treatments in our state feels like a ticking time bomb. We understand there's still a conversation about whether the immunity law is constitutional. And to be transparent, we worry that this is a bad case, one lawsuit away from totally blowing up the immunity law and rendering us back at square one,' said McLean.
