Wichita Falls officials stress need for permits in roofing projects
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — As Texomans settle into storm season, Wichita Falls building officials want to remind homeowners facing roofing repairs or replacement that any work over 500 square feet must be permitted.
A permit from the City of Wichita Falls is required to protect people, their investments and the community.
Wichita County sees surge in roof and vehicle damage repair calls
Roofing permits ensure that the contractor is licensed and bonded, which provides a financial guarantee that the job will be completed as agreed, minimizing risk. They also ensure that all projects meet local building codes and safety standards.
With permits, inspections are required during and after a project, which helps to catch potential safety hazards before they become problems.
Requiring permits also helps with insurance and property values. If repairs are done without a permit, the homeowner's insurance might not cover damages related to the work, leaving the homeowner liable for accidents or damage.
Permits also ensure that major improvements are recorded and reflected in property value, making it easier to sell the home in the future.

Texoma prepares for severe weather: Possible wind gusts and hail ahead
TEXOMA (KFDX/KJTL) – Significant severe weather is expected to take place in the Texoma area today, Sunday, June 8. The timing is from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., but could be as early as 2 p.m. Significant damaging wind gusts (80-100 mph), extremely large hail (baseball-sized and larger), and a few tornadoes will all be possible. There is potential for a strong tornado and softball-sized hail in the afternoon. Still, the most likely concern is significant damaging wind gusts, leading to widespread wind damage and power outages across the areas hit hardest. If we don't see a single tornado, this will still likely be our most significant severe weather event of the season, just because of the hurricane-force wind gusts. Between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., we may have a couple of supercells over Texoma. Conditions will favor these supercells to be capable of all hazards. These cells will eventually congeal into a system that pushes to the east, still capable of withstanding all hazards and significant wind damage. While these early cells are occurring, more supercells develop across the panhandle. The cells will congeal into a system that will sweep across most of Texoma from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. All hazards are possible with this system, but the potential for 80-100 mph winds will be the greatest concern. Wichita Falls Symphony hosts jazz night at Kemp Center during Art Walk
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) – The June Art Walk is here, and the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra invites the community to a jazz night at the Kemp Center. While all the fun continues downtown in Wichita Falls on Thursday, June 5, there will also be fun activities at the Sculpture Garden at the Kemp Center, weather permitting. The Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra will be playing live jazz tunes while The Traveling Tavern bar serves up beverages. The event will proceed rain or shine, but if it does rain, the orchestra will relocate into the Great Hall. Seats are limited, but you are welcome to bring lawn chairs to enjoy the live music. Lake levels continue to rise across Texoma
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — The lake levels in Wichita Falls are up again this week, quickly approaching 100% capacity. Lake Arrowhead rose 1.3% and now stands at 97.7%, while Lake Kickapoo remained the same this week at 100% full. Most of the water is overflowing from Lake Kickapoo, and the runoff is expected to continue. The combined lake capacity rose 0.9% to a total of 98.3%. This will be the final weekly lake level update for the season. Wichita Falls officials will notify residents when the lakes reach 100%.
