Constitution Hill removed from Gold Cup reckoning
There will be no Gold Cup bid at Royal Ascot for Constitution Hill after he was scratched from the race on Friday.
Nicky Henderson teased the exciting prospect of his hurdling star switching codes when handing the eight-year-old an entry for the Group One staying showpiece.
However, after a disappointing spring, which has included falls at both the Cheltenham Festival and Aintree, he will now head for a summer break after a lacklustre performance at the Punchestown Festival.
Speaking at Newbury, Henderson told Sky Sports Racing: 'He's good and he's actually been having various tests throughout the week. He had a body and bone scan which actually told us very little and there is nothing chronically bad about it at all at the moment.
'We did actually take him out of the Gold Cup at Ascot this morning and he will very shortly be going to Charlie Vigors (of Hillwood Stud) for his summer holiday. I think some R and R is the best thing for him.'
Constitution Hill may have left Seven Barrows for the summer, but Sir Gino is still under the watchful eye of his handler as he continues to recover from the leg injury which became infected and left him in hospital.
Henderson continued: 'He's good and he's still at Seven Barrows. Gradually we are getting there and he's walking further and further. Hopefully we'll get him out in a field before too long.'

June 5 - San Diego FC star Hirving "Chucky" Lozano is not on the Mexico national team roster for the upcoming Gold Cup after injuring his left hamstring during Saturday's MLS match against Austin FC. Mexico announced Wednesday that Lozano wouldn't be part of the team due to the injury. The team formally unveiled the roster Wednesday night. Lozano, 29, left shortly before the midway point of the second half of Saturday's 2-0 victory. It is the second time he has hurt the left hamstring this season. "San Diego FC reported and sent tests showing that Hirving Lozano has a left hamstring injury that prevents him from traveling to join the rest of the squad," the Mexican national team said in a statement. "The Mexican National Team wishes (him) a speedy recovery." Mexico's Gold Cup opener is June 14 against the Dominican Republic at Inglewood, Calif. Lozano has been a big hit for expansion San Diego FC. He has five goals and seven assists in 14 matches (12 starts), missing three games after first injuring the hamstring in the first half against St. Louis City on March 1. USMNT GK Zack Steffen (knee) to miss Gold Cup
June 4 - U.S. men's national team goalkeeper Zack Steffen will miss the Concacaf Gold Cup with a knee injury. The U.S. Soccer Federation confirmed Wednesday that Steffen was injured during training on Tuesday. Steffen, 30, departed training camp and returned to the Colorado Rapids to undergo further testing. ESPN reported that Steffen is expected to be sidelined from four to six weeks. The USMNT has upcoming friendlies against Turkey on Friday in East Hartford, Conn., and against Switzerland next Tuesday in Nashville, Tenn. Gold Cup action begins on June 15 with a Group D match against Trinidad and Tobago in San Jose, Calif., followed by group games against Saudi Arabia (June 19 in Austin, Texas) and Haiti (June 22 in Arlington, Texas). Steffen is the second U.S. netminder lost to injury, joining the Columbus Crew's Patrick Schulte (oblique). Prague pencilled in for Criterion comeback
The son of Galileo has been a real hit for the Newmarket-based South African since his 10,000 guineas transfer from Ballydoyle in October 2023 and after being ruled-out of Group One action at Newbury with a high temperature, Cunha deciding against a mooted run at Epsom this weekend in preference of a trip to the Knavesmire for a race switched north from Newmarket. Cunha said: 'He's good and he only missed three days work basically, but I think the timing of it was a blessing in disguise and he looks better than ever now. 'He will probably go for the Group Three Criterion at York on June 28, that will be his starter. 'We looked at the Diomed at Epsom, but it was just too soon. He missed those three days and then we obviously brought him back slowly for a week and there is no point rushing him as he's too good a horse. 'To me he has improved loads since and he has just turned a corner. Maybe he wasn't ready for it (Newbury) and everything happens for a reason, so I'm quite excited to get him up to York.' Prague's finest hour came in Newmarket's Joel Stakes last September with that Group Two event on the Rowley Mile the five-year-old's long-term aim once again, with Cunha also having no regrets about forgoing a trip to Royal Ascot for a stellar Queen Anne Stakes later this month. Prague added: 'After York he will probably go to back to Haydock for the Superior Mile he was second in last year and then for the Joel Stakes he won, that is the plan at the moment. 'I think going to Ascot would have been mad and barring Frankel's renewal, I think this is the best Queen Anne I've seen, it looks a proper race. It will be a good spectacle and I would rather be watching with a glass of champagne in my hands than having a runner that's an outsider.'
