Huge assets of engineer unearthed
Bhubaneswar: The State Vigilance sleuths on Saturday conducted simultaneous raids at seven locations of Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Susil Kumar Panda of Ganjam block following allegations of possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Vigilance sources said the raids were carried out by a team led by six Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), seven inspectors and other supporting staff following search warrants issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur.
The searches were conducted at seven places spread across Ganjam and Puri districts.
During the search operation, the Vigilance team unearthed several assets in the name of Panda and his family members. The assets include a 3-storey building at Ram Hari Nagar, Berhampur; a 2-BHK flat at Mukteswar Apartment, Ankuli, Berhampur; a 1-BHK flat at Puri; six high-value plots located in Bhubaneswar, Khurda and Berhampur and over Rs 2 lakh cash.
Vigilance sources said the measurement, valuation and assessment of the buildings, flats and plots are being carried out by the Vigilance Technical Wing. Further, bank accounts, deposits and other financial investments are under verification.

34kg of ganja seized in two busts in Ernakulam
Kochi: After a brief lull, drug traffickers appear to be back in action in Ernakulam, with nearly 34kg of ganja seized in two separate busts on Sunday. A special investigation team led by Perumbavoor ASP and Kuruppampady police arrested two West Bengal natives with 18kg of ganja. Based on confidential information received by district police chief M Hemalatha, they were taken into custody while awaiting customers near a bar in Odakkali Panichayam area. Sameem brought the ganja from Bengal by train on Saturday morning. Mandal previously worked as a construction labourer in Panichayam area. They were selling the cannabis at a rate of Rs 25,000 per kilogram, said police. Police have started investigating those who came to purchase ganja from them. Investigation team included Perumbavoor ASP Shakti Singh Arya, inspector V M Kurson, SI Ibrahimkutty, ASI P A Abdul Manaf and senior CPOs Varghese T Venatt, T A Afsal, Benny Isaac, E M Rajesh Arun and Jijo. Meanwhile, Kochi city police apprehended two West Bengal natives with 16kg of ganja near FACT in Eloor. Arrested individuals were identified as Afsal Hussain, 24, of Sibnarnagar, West Bengal, and Rony Sekh, 19, of Sagarpara, West Bengal. Acting on a tip-off received by city commissioner Putta Vimaladitya, the operation was conducted under the supervision of DCP Ashwathi Jiji and Juvenapudi Mahesh. Narcotics cell, led by ACP Abdul Salam, along with Dansaf SI and team members, seized 16.68kg of cannabis from the accused. Ganja was packed tightly in two travel bags. The suspects, who were coming from West Bengal, procured the cannabis from Odisha, brought it to Angamaly, and were caught while transporting it to Eloor FACT area, said police. Accused used to distribute ganja to dealers in Eloor, Kalamassery, Fort Kochi and Ernakulam North areas. Investigations are ongoing to determine source of the cannabis and whether other suspects are involved, said police.

Notorious criminal, two accomplices arrested
Patna: A joint team of Bihar STF and police from Darbhanga late on Saturday night arrested a notorious criminal, Noor Mohammad alias Lalbabu and his two accomplices, who demanded an extortion of Rs 2 crore from a doctor at Phulwarisharif in Patna district. Lalbabu, a resident of Lahiarchak Alampur locality under Phulwarisharif police station area and his associate, Mohd Farhan, a resident of Ishpur, Patna, were arrested from Darbhanga. The STF officials said a case was registered at University (Darbhanga) police station, and further action is being taken. Police recovered a pistol, six live cartridges, a magazine, Rs 2,50,000 in cash, and four cellphones from the accused's possession. Based on the information provided by the arrested criminals, Mohd Saif was arrested from his home with illegal firearms from Phulwarisharif police station area in Patna. A case was registered in this regard in Phulwarisharif police station area. Police recovered a country-made pistol, five live cartridges, a magazine, and a cellphone from his possession. On June 28, the three criminals threatened to kill a doctor at a private hospital in Phulwarisharif unless he paid Rs 2 crore. A case was registered under Sections 308(3)/308(4) BNS at Phulwarisharif police station, leading to their swift arrest by the special teams. Cases of extortion and Arms Act violations were earlier filed against Lalbabu in various police stations in Patna and Darbhanga.

Rachakonda police recover 1,130 stolen phones in Hyderabad worth Rs 3.5 crore
In a significant crackdown against mobile phone thefts in the city, officials from the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate in Hyderabad have recovered 1,130 stolen or lost mobile phones over the course of the last two months. The recovered mobile phones are valued at around Rs 3.5 crores. Rachakonda Commissioner of Police, Sudheer Babu, stated that a total of 3,694 mobile phones have been recovered from the Rachakonda Commissionerate area so far this year. The recovered mobile phones were handed over to their rightful owners in an official from handing over the stolen mobile phones, police have also issued an advisory to the public warning them against the purchase of stolen mobile phones.
