Houston Texans 2025 schedule: Dates, times, TV channels for every game
It's now a race to first place in the AFC.
The Houston Texans will begin their quest back to playoff contention with a showdown between master and protégé out west in an interconference battle. Nick Caley might have left Los Angeles for H-Town, but his career as the Texans' offensive coordinator begins back at SoFi Stadium.

With the NFL schedule finalized, the Texans will visit Matthew Stafford, Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1 to start a gauntlet over the first month of the season, which includes a primetime battle on Monday Night Football against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2 in what would be the hope opener.
The Texans will close out the regular season at NRG Stadium for the first time since 2020, hopefully locking up a playoff bid over the Indianapolis Colts on a to be determined date.
While the Texans retooled their offensive line this offseason, adding veterans Trent Brown and Cam Robinson, as well as rookie Aireontae Ersery, there are no guarantees for success. Houston still has holes on the interior and plans to trot out at least two members of the unit that allowed 56 total sacks in 2025.
By the strength of schedule metric alone -- using both last year's win totals and this year's projected win totals -- the Texans have one of the easier paths back to the postseason. Despite five matchups with first-place teams, Houston remains in the chatter for a third straight AFC South title.

The easier schedule had something to do with it, but overall, the attack finished 24th in the nation in total yards and averaged 32 points per game. - Kaitin Houser took over the offense at the midway point, and everything clicked. He threw for over 2,000 yards and 18 scores, but he threw 11 interceptions. - The Pirates return enough receivers to be okay, even after losing Chase Sowell to Iowa State. Anthony Smith led the way with 41 grabs, averaging over 19 yards per catch, and in comes Jaquaize Pettaway from Oklahoma to work the tight end depth and options are strong, with Desirrio Riles ready for a bigger role - he caught two touchdown passes on ten grabs. - Leading rusher Rahjai Harris is gone, but London Montgomery and Marlon Gunn are decent veteranswho combined for close to 600 rushing yards and five scores. They'll have to battle for yards behind a reworked line. - Jimarion McCrimon is back at one tackle spot, and 6-6, 326-pound Emannuel Poku will work at either tackle or guard. Everything else is up in the air, but the Kyle Long (Maryland) and 340-pound Leivi Semaia (JUCO) are decent-looking guards who should fit in right away. East Carolina Pirates Preview 2025: Defense - The defense wasn't anything great, but it was wonderful in the red zone, came up with a ton of tackles for loss, and when it allowed 31 points or fewer, the offense did the rest. - The top linebackers are gone. Mike Edwards is done, and Zakye Barker is leaving for SMU, but Dameon Wilson is a former Missouri transfer who should shine in the middle. Kevon Merrell is a safety-sized outside defender who can move. Rhyeem Craig is back at his starting spot at a hybrid edge gig. - The portal is helping the interior with Xavier McIver (Houston), Justin Benton (Houston), and Rion Roseborough (Towson), bringing the 300-plus-pound size to the interior. JD Lampley earned All-AAC honors on the end. He's not a dominant pass rusher, but he's a solid all-around playmaker. - The East Carolina secondary has a nice mix of parts. Texans 'offensive triplets' among the best in the NFL for 2025 The Houston Texans' offense is looking to respond with secondary options in the passing game heading into the 2025 NFL season. While C.J. Stroud and Nico Collins are considered among the best duos in the league, there are questions at the other receiver spots, plus the tight end role after a down year from Dalton Schultz. Running back Joe Mixon is coming off his first 1,000-yard season since joining the Texans, marking also the first 1K runner for the franchise since 2019. While dealing with a foot injury, he's expected to be back at full speed for the start of the regular season and remain the bell cow bruiser. The Texans might have questions outside of their star trio, but it remains one of the better units in the league entering the summer. Sports Illustrated agreed with the sentiment based on its rankings of all 32 trios for the upcoming season. Albeit not top-five, the website listed Houston just on the outside at No. 6. "The Texans didn't live up to their offseason hype, but their offense remains full of excellent weaponry," SI wrote. "Stroud had a bit of a statistical sophomore slump, but that's largely because the offensive line was atrocious, allowing the league's third-most sacks. Stroud still managed to throw for 3,727 yards and 20 touchdowns, while Collins totaled 1,006 yards in 12 games." Collins, who signed a three-year extension ahead of the 2024 season, was well on his way to leading the league in receptions and receiving yards before a hamstring injury sidelined him for five games. He still managed to finish with over 1,000 receiving yards and seven touchdowns while leading Houston in every category. Part of Stroud's "sophomore slump" was caused by the lack of consistent weapons. Collins wasn't the only receiver to miss multiple games, leaving the 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year out to dry. Tank Dell missed three games and likely won't return in 2025 after undergoing multiple leg surgeries. Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs was out after eight games because of a torn ACL. Mixon even missed three games that cost him a potential 1,200-yard season. He was one of the hottest running backs to begin the year, but an ankle injury had him miss a majority of September and early October. At his peak, there's no reason to believe that Mixon can't be a top-12 running back. The Texans could prove to be a one-year fluke offensively if Christian Kirk or one of the rookies step up, but at least the trio will keep pace in the AFC South for the meantime.

Seth Rollins on why Caleb Williams will have better Year 2 than Jayden Daniels Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams and Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will be compared for the duration of their NFL careers. The first and second overall picks, respectively, have all of the talent and potential to thrive and be the face of the league for the long term. But while Daniels had an easy-going rookie season -- en route to Offensive Rookie of the Year honors -- Williams dealt with adversity and still faces plenty of criticism after just one year. During a recent appearance on the "Up & Adams" show, WWE superstar (and noted Bears fan) Seth Rollins explained why he believes Williams will have a better 2025 season than Daniels. "I think Caleb Williams is going to have a better year," Rollins said. "I think last year was an aberration. I think you're going to see a little bit of a sophomore slump. I think people are going to be able to gameplan for (Jayden) better. ... I just think the second year is going to be more difficult. You look at C.J. had a great year, but compared to the rookie year, not quite as good. I think you're going to look at it and see a situation like that whereas expectations are going to be a little bit lower for Caleb, and I think he's going to be able to exceed those. Plus, he's playing in a system with Ben Johnson that's going to be curated better to him than what he was doing with Shane Waldron." While it's easy to deem Rollins a "superfan" defending "his" quarterback, he brings up a good point. A sophomore slump could potentially be in play for Daniels, who had a lights-out rookie season. Also, we haven't even glimpsed Williams' ceiling after his chaotic rookie season that featured incompetent coaching. Now with Ben Johnson in place, we should get a taste of what Williams can really bring to the field. There's no reason Williams and Daniels can't both be great -- and we could very well be witnessing the beginning of that -- but people love to compare and declare who's better. That's a question that wouldn't even be answered for several years. But with both Williams and Daniels in the NFC, they'll be seeing a lot of each other throughout their careers -- especially if their respective teams become perennial playoff teams. Williams and Daniels will square off again for the second time in as many seasons when the Commanders host the Bears on Monday Night Football in Week 6. While Williams nearly won the first match -- before Tyrique Stevenson's blunder on a Hail Mary -- he'll have a chance to redeem himself and even the series with Daniels on Oct. 13.
