KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Don't let road work stop you from getting on the roads this weekend. 6 News anchor Bo Williams is breaking down what drivers need to know in this week's Upcoming Road Work livestream.
Louisville Road between Proffitt Springs Road and Alcoa Highway is closed through Saturday, May 17, as part of a project to install a pedestrian bridge. To learn more about the closures, click here.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation has issued its weekly construction report for May 9-14, detailing ongoing and upcoming construction activities. This report includes information about lane closures and road work across 24 East Tennessee counties.

The Sevierville Police Department also shared a traffic advisory for the Bruce Street Brewfest special event. Bruce Street, between Court Avenue and the Parkway, will be closed to all traffic from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on May 10. The City parking lot and gazebo on Bruce Street will also be closed during this period.

SPD also warned drivers about a closure on Court Avenue between East Main Street and the Little Pigeon River. The road will be closed from May 13-16 to all traffic to facilitate the development of blueway river access.
In Alcoa, several roads will be closed for the Downtown Dash between 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on May 10. The roads impacted include Marconi Boulevard, Springbrook Road, Faraday Street, Associates Boulevard, and Kings Court.

MDOT suspends traffic restrictions for holiday weekend
LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is suspending work and lifting traffic restrictions on projects across the state to ease Memorial Day travel. reports that 92 of the 158 projects will see some level of alteration to accommodate the massive number of travelers expected this holiday weekend. The American Automobile Association () estimates that more than 1.3 million Michigan residents are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home, a slight increase from last year. MDOT says that although some equipment and traffic configurations will remain over the weekend, suspending construction operations improves safety for workers and motorists. 'Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to grow our economy, helping Michiganders go to work, drop their kids off at school and run errands safely,' said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in a news release sent to 6 News. 'Everyone at MDOT fully understands how frustrating construction can be for drivers, but for everyone's safety in work zones, including your own, follow the law, be patient and help make sure everyone makes it home each and every night. Road workers and the ones you love are all counting on you,' said State Transportation Director Bradley C. Wieferich in a news release sent to 6 News. What to know before hitting the road in East Tennessee for Memorial Day weekend
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — As interstate construction work is suspended in Tennessee for Memorial Day weekend and a near-record number of travelers are expected, 6 News anchor Bo Williams has what drivers need to know. Tennessee Department of Transportation crews and contractors stopped all road construction work that requires lane closures from noon on Friday, May 23, through 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27. However, drivers will still come across some long-term lane closures on construction projects that will remain in place. This pause is in anticipation of increased holiday travel. Airport Road in Roane County closed after 'large' crack spotted 'We want to do our part to help everyone have an enjoyable and safe holiday weekend and keep traffic flowing as smoothly and efficiently as possible,' said Deputy Governor & TDOT Commissioner Butch Eley. 'We also want to remind drivers that it is the law to move over and slow down for first responders and emergency vehicles, including TDOT HELP trucks that will be on patrol during the holiday weekend. So far this year, we've had 47 incidents where a driver hit a TDOT vehicle or equipment.' Several roads in Sevierville will be closed on Sunday, May 25, for the Smoky Mountain Thunder Memorial Motorcycle Ride.
