Man shot in arm in Northeast DC; police investigating
WASHINGTON () — D.C. police are investigating after a man was shot in the Trinidad neighborhood Thursday night.
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) told DC News Now that officers were called to the 1300 block of Staples Street NE, just before 10:25 p.m. on May 29, for the sounds of gunshots.

While canvassing the area, officers found a man who had been shot in his arm in the 1300 block of Florida Avenue NE, according to the police report.
Medics took him to the hospital for treatment.
The circumstances of what led up to the shooting remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 202-727-9099 or text MPD at 50411.

I fell for a classic tourist scam in Greece — and I didn't realize until it was too late

But then it hit me: my iPhone had been sitting right on the table — and now it was gone. He'd used the map as a distraction and cover, likely sweeping my phone underneath while I was focused on keeping my valuables close. By the time I realized what had happened, he had disappeared into the crowd. I've traveled extensively, and I like to think I'm pretty cautious, but this scam worked because it played on a simple moment of distraction. And according to local authorities, it's incredibly common, especially in tourist-heavy cities. Since then, I've completely changed how I carry my phone while traveling. I now rely on a wearable phone lanyard that keeps my device physically attached to me at all times. And I affix AirTags to just about everything when I travel — from my passport to my luggage, and even my kids. 13-year-old girl rescued from Tampa motel: 'This child was lured'
The Brief A 13-year-old girl was lured to a hotel by two men on Saturday in Tampa, according to HCSO. Detectives said the men offered the teen money for sex. The victim was able to send a voice message to her sister, who called 911, according to HCSO. TAMPA - The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested two men after deputies rescued a teenage girl from a Tampa motel room. On Saturday, the sheriff's office received a 911 call from the victim's sister, who had received a voice message from the 13-year-old indicating she was in danger at the A1 Motel. The backstory When deputies got to the scene, they found the girl inside a motel room. One of the suspects, Marlon Alfaro-Alvarez, 28, tried to take off through a bathroom window. He was quickly detained along with Floyd Amaya Garvin, 25. Detectives say the men had communicated with the girl via social media, picked her up under false pretenses, and took her to the motel. Dig deeper Detectives say the child repeatedly asked the men to let her go home, but the suspects physically prevented her from leaving the room and offered her money in exchange for sex.
