National-level Maal Hijrah Celebration To Take Place At MITEC This Friday
KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 (Bernama) -- The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) will host the National Maal Hijrah 1447H/2025M celebration at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here this Friday.
JAKIM director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee said His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, the King and Queen of Malaysia are expected to grace the event, which carries the theme Membangun Ummah MADANI (Developing a MADANI Ummah).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail are also scheduled to attend the ceremony, which will begin at 9.30 am and is expected to draw around 8,000 guests. These include Cabinet ministers, deputy ministers, heads of government departments and agencies, foreign dignitaries and members of the public.
'This year's celebration aims to highlight the importance of drawing lessons from the Hijrah in building a progressive Muslim community,' Sirajuddin said in a statement today.
He added that a MADANI ummah embodies the principle of inclusivity in developing a civilised society, not only in terms of physical development, but also in nurturing spiritually excellent human capital.
The highlight of the event will be a Royal Address by His Majesty, as well as the presentation of the National and International Tokoh Maal Hijrah Awards to individuals who have made significant contributions to Islamic development and the advancement of the ummah.
In conjunction with the celebration, a special prayer ceremony to mark the end and beginning of the Islamic year will take place at 6.30 pm this Thursday at Masjid Negara (National Mosque).
The ceremony will be attended by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, with prayers led by the Grand Imam Ehsan Mohd Hosni. A special tausiyyah (religious lecture) will also be delivered by Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Izhar Ariff Mohd Kashim from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
'May this year's Maal Hijrah celebration bring renewed hope and unity to Muslims in Malaysia and around the world, in the spirit of togetherness exemplified by Prophet Muhammad SAW in Madinah,' said Sirajuddin.

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia and the Kyrgyz Republic have agreed to collaborate on developing Islamic banking and boosting trade in halal products, with Malaysia offering its expertise in both sectors to help establish relevant facilities and services in the Kyrgyz Republic. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said during his meeting with president Sadyr Zhaparov, both leaders also discussed setting up Islamic banks to create better financial systems. 'This will all be further of course you (Kyrgyz Republic) have this great capacity in terms of hydropower, green energy, renewable energy, which Malaysia would certainly be very interested to understand, study and also benefit,' he said. The Kyrgyz Republic has substantial hydropower potential. It is the country's primary source of electricity, accounting for nearly 90% of its production. The Prime Minister also said Malaysia and the Kyrgyz Republic have agreed to enhance collaboration in education and research, emphasising its impetus to foster greater people-to-people ties as well as expand on both social and economic potential of both countries. In this regard, Anwar said Malaysia will be extending its technical and educational assistance via the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme for the Kyrgyz people. 'Our institutions, of course, will be available for you to identify people to be trained, and we will certainly be more appreciative if we can also have exchanges with you,' he added.

A glimpse into a life of nomadic resilience
PUTRAJAYA: A symbol of nomadic resilience and cultural heritage took centre stage here yesterday as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Zhaparov, attended a traditional Kyrgyz Yurt ceremony on the sidelines of the latter's official visit to Malaysia. The ceremony featured the Boz Ui, a traditional Kyrgyz yurt, which captivated the Malaysian audience with its unique circular structure, felt coverings and timber framework, an enduring testament to the ingenuity of Kyrgyz nomadic life, Bernama reported. Literally translated as 'Gray House' in the Kyrgyz language, the Boz Ui has for centuries served as the primary shelter for Kyrgyz herders traversing the expansive steppes, valleys and mountainous regions of Central Asia. Both Anwar and Zhaparov stepped into the Boz Ui together, accompanied by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa and Putrajaya Corporation president Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud, marking a moment of cultural exchange and solidarity. Designed for seasonal migration, the yurt is both functional and symbolic, durable enough to withstand extreme weather yet portable enough to be dismantled and reassembled as families follow their livestock across pastures. The ceremony offered a rare glimpse into the lifestyle of the Kyrgyz people and served as a gesture of friendship and mutual appreciation between the two nations. The ceremony was part of Zhaparov's two-day maiden official visit to Malaysia to reciprocate Anwar's official trip to the Kyrgyz Republic in May 2024. The three MOUs on tourism, digital transformation and cybersecurity, and trade were exchanged by Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan with Kyrgyz Republic's Minister of Economy and Commerce Bakyt Sydykov and Minister of Digital Development and Innovative Technologies Azamat Jamangulov. Mohamad also exchanged two EoNs in the field of training of diplomats and youth as well as one letter of intent for a treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters with his counterpart Zheenbek Kulubaev and Kyrgyz Republic's Minister of Culture, Information and Youth Policy Mirbek Mambetaliev. Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir exchanged the MOU in the field of higher education with Kyrgyz Republic's Minister of Science, Higher Education and Innovation Baktyiar Orozov, while the MOU on health was exchanged between Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and his counterpart Erkin Checheibaev. North Korea Unveils New Kalma Beach Resort to Boost Tourism

According to state media Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the completion ceremony was held on Wednesday with Kim in attendance. The Wonsan Kalma coastal tourist area features hotels and hostels with capacity for nearly 20,000 domestic and foreign guests. It includes facilities for swimming, sports, recreation and public dining. bootstrap slideshow The resort spans a 4-kilometre stretch of beach and is designed to provide year-round leisure, KCNA said. Kim called the resort one of the country's greatest successes this year and said it should lead the development of North Korea's tourism sector. The upcoming Ninth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea is expected to endorse further plans to build similar tourist areas elsewhere, Kim added. Kim was accompanied by his daughter, Ju-ae, and wife, Ri Sol Ju, marking Ri's first public appearance since January. The Russian ambassador and embassy staff also attended the event, suggesting Russia could be a key foreign market for the new resort. The resort is scheduled to open to local tourists on July 1.
