Indian-origin man dies after Australian cop allegedly knelt on neck during arrest
A 42-year-old Indian-origin man has died days after an Australian police officer allegedly knelt on his neck during an attempted arrest in Adelaide, media reports said.
Gaurav Kundi, from Modbury North, was hospitalised on May 29 with a brain injury and died on Thursday, 7News Australia reported citied by PTI. His wife, Amritpal Kaur, recorded part of the arrest on her phone.
The couple were reportedly arguing in public when Kundi, who had been drinking, lay on the ground. Kaur said he had pushed her slightly during the argument. A passing police patrol intervened, allegedly believing it to be a domestic violence situation.
In the video accessed by 9News, Kundi is heard saying, 'I didn't do anything wrong,' while officers restrained him. Kaur can be heard saying the police were acting unfairly. She said she stopped filming after an officer placed a knee on her husband's neck.
'Just 19 seconds of video because I got panicked and I just sat on the ground with Gaurav. I kept saying he's not well, he's not well, please don't do this, just call the ambulance,' she told 9News.
Kundi became unresponsive and was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he remained in critical condition until his death.
South Australia Police said Kundi had 'violently resisted' arrest and confirmed that no taser or firearm was used. The department said it was currently satisfied with how officers acted.
An internal investigation has been opened, and a Commissioner's Inquiry is also underway. Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said the review would look into the department's policies, training, and response protocols.
Kundi was a father of two. His death has drawn comparisons to the 2020 case of George Floyd in the United States.

DNA tests identify 80 Air India plane crash victims, 33 bodies handed to kin
After the tragic crash of the Air India flight AI171 in Ahmedabad on June 12, hospital authorities have identified 80 victims, including former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani, out of the more than 270 people who died in the incident. Of these, the bodies of 33 victims have been handed over to their respective families," additional civil superintendent Dr. Rajnish Patel told PTI. The victims whose mortal remains were handed over were from Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Kheda, Botad and other places. Nepali family of 3, living in Mumbai with fake ID docus since 24 years, held at Mumbai airport before boarding flight to Kathmandu
Mumbai: A Nepali family of three, who were living in the city for over two decades using forged voter ID, Aadhaar, and PAN cards, was arrested at the airport while trying to board a flight to Kathmandu on Saturday. Sahar police said Gautam Khadaka (49), his wife Nirmala (47), and son Gagan (22), a college student, have travelled multiple times to Nepal in the past via road and train and did not raise suspicions as there are no restrictions for Nepali nationals entering India through official borders. However, their decision to travel by air to their hometown for a holiday resulted in their capture. Gautam allegedly admitted that he had obtained the forged ID documents in 2001. "The trio were scheduled to depart for Kathmandu at 11pm but were intercepted by immigration officers after they produced Indian voter ID cards as identification along with their boarding passes," said a Sahar police officer. "Initially, Gagan was stopped during the immigration check, leading officials to detain the entire family. During the probe by immigration officials Sandeep Salve (40) and Abhijit Kokare, the family's travel history emerged. Gautam admitted that he had entered India at the age of 14 through the Indo-Nepal border in 1990. Salve's complaint detailed: "Gautam first came to Borivli and undertook odd jobs for livelihood. In 2001, he got married in Nepal and brought his wife to Mumbai; they then moved to Mahim where they started a tea and fast-food stall. They fraudulently obtained voter ID, Aadhaar, and PAN cards. Gagan was born in Mumbai in 2003. He completed his schooling in the city and is now in college." Police have booked the couple and their son under BNS sections 318 (cheating), which attracts imprisonment for seven years and a fine; 336 (2) (forgery), which attracts imprisonment for two years and a fine; 336 (3) (forgery of electronic record), which attracts imprisonment for seven years and a fine; and 340 (2) (forged document or electronic record and using it as genuine), which is a cognisable offence triable by a magistrate. The family remains in police custody for further inquiry until June 17.
