A week is a long time in football.This time last Sunday, Rangers' players were sprawled on the Ibrox turf, having just lost out on the SWPL title on the final day for the second season in a row.But on Scottish Cup Sunday, Jo Potter's side ended the day with beaming grins, buoyancy and some bullish comments after comfortably beating Glasgow City.In truth, they never really had to leave second gear as they strolled to successive domestic cup doubles and ensured City suffered back-to-back trophyless campaigns.A commanding performance gilded with three deserved goals was more than enough, but 19-year-old winger Mia McAulay wanted more and stated Rangers "could have won about seven or eight-nil". A confident comment, albeit one perhaps overexaggerated, from the teenager who opened the scoring with a composed and mature finish. "We know what we want to do in these games, we had to start good and we got the first goal, I think that kicked us off," said 19-year-old McAulay."We dominated the whole game. We could have won about seven or eight-nil."
'On our day, no-one can handle us'
Rangers' superiority in the final couldn't be questioned. Whether it should have been seven or eight though, can.McAulay herself inexplicably missed a glorious open goal from a matter of yards, after kissing a post in the first half, while Kathy Hill looped a header onto the bar.Frustratingly for Potter, there was a dominance in their play that was non-existent last week when they had no answers to eventual league winners Hibs.The former England international has overseen four cup final wins in her two seasons in charge, but insists it "doesn't dismiss" missing out on the title."It shows we had a point to prove and wanted to play and win in a certain way," the head coach told BBC Scotland."It was an excellent performance and an excellent win. I wasn't surprised by how we were playing. On our day, no-one can handle us and we definitely proved that."As if they needed a helping hand, City were nowhere near their best. Samantha van Diemen, the centre-back who has waltzed her way through her first season in Scottish football, had one of her worst games of the campaign.After a slack pass in the build-up to the opener, she was left for dust by Kirsty Howat for the second. Her dismal afternoon ended in ignominy as she was sent off following a VAR review for a last-ditch challenge.The Dutch international was not the only underperformer for Leanne Ross' side, who now must use the summer to build not only domestically, but for their Champions League campaign earned by a second-placed league finish.Questions for the former Scotland international to ponder over, while her Rangers counterparts will be doing much the same once their celebrations come to an end.The impressive Howat, who joins up with the Scotland camp on Monday, admitted they "haven't had that control enough this season". Potter and her staff will need to work out why. But for now, it's party time.

An initial £20million of investment has been promised and a share issue will follow to help raise more funds. With the Light Blues in Champions League qualifying action on July 22/23 and 29/30, the summer rebuild must start soon. We looked at how Martin could transform Rangers, in particular by recruiting trusted former players. Gers chief Stewart acknowledged there is a lot of ground to be made up on Celtic in the league, but believes Martin has arrived early enough for them to make signings before the Euro qualifiers next month. Speaking in an interview with Rangers TV, he said: 'There is a lot of hard work to be done, just to be clear. I think there always is every pre-season for Rangers because the European qualifiers come so early, so let's not shy away from that. 'That said, we have got Russell in and the transfer window doesn't open for another ten days and the first team don't return for another two weeks, so actually you could look at it glass half full and say we have got him in well in advance of those two key events. 'But let's not kid ourselves, there is a lot of hard work to be done but I know Russell is determined to get stuck into that. 'The potential of Rangers, we know it is unfulfilled at the moment. 'This is a huge club and supporters, players, management and staff, we have all been frustrated at not having achieved the heights. Rangers fans react to news Russell Martin is their new manager 'It feels now though that we are making steps forward and new ownership is a massive step forward. 'My excitement and optimism levels have definitely increased but they were always there because there is so much that is positive about this club.' Stewart was asked how Martin's experience in both Scotland and England during his career will help them in the recruitment process. He said that combining Martin's knowledge with Thelwell's contacts book should lead to positive results in the transfer market. Stewart said that they will pay close attention to the Scottish and English markets, as players there will have an understanding of the British game. But that won't stop them from scouting players further afield - the only condition being that they must ALREADY be suited to playing in Scotland, rather than trying to mould them into the finished product. He said: 'Having an understanding of the Scottish game I would say is a key factor because every league is unique and we can look at some of the fixtures that have to be played as part of the SPFL. 'Every ground has its nuances and every club has its nuances, so somebody that comes in with an understanding of that is a huge asset. 'Equally, when it comes to recruiting players having a knowledge of markets outside of Scotland and players outside of Scotland, and off-the-pitch talent outside of Scotland as well, is a huge advantage. Ross Doohan to answer Scotland SOS as Steve Clarke looks to ease goalkeeper crisis
He is in line to win a first cap in Vaduz against Liechtenstein as he gets set to join up with the squad ahead of jetting out Ross Doohan looks set to answer Scotland 's goalkeeping SOS ahead of Monday's friendly with Liechtenstein. The Aberdeen shotstopper - who has penned a pre-contract with first club Celtic - is in line to win a first cap in Vaduz. Steve Clarke was forced into a frantic search for cover after Angus Gunn limped out of Friday's defeat to Iceland after just two minutes. Untried Ciaran Slicker was thrown into action but, with just nine minutes of football under his belt in the last 22 months, froze on the big occasion and was at fault for all three goals in the 3-1 defeat. To add to Clarke's woes back-up Robby McCrorie was injured in the warm-up meaning the Kilmarnock keeper and Gunn join a lengthy goalkeeping casualty list that had already seen Craig Gordon, Liam Kelly and Zander Clark ruled out. Now Doohan looks set to join up with the squad ahead of flying out to Liechtenstein on Sunday. The 27-year-old made 18 appearances for the Dons last season and was capped right through the youth ranks up to U-21 level where he made 13 appearances. Bournemouth kid Callan McKenna has also been training with the squad. But the 18-year-old former Queen's Park keeper will likely just be cover. Speaking after Friday's defeat Clarke said: "It's difficult for Cieran. I feel for him. "He got thrown into a situation where he maybe wasn't quite ready for it. But Craig's injured, Liam Kelly's injured, Zander Clark was injured. "I mentioned back in March that it was something I thought might come back to bite us. The only good thing is it came in a friendly match. "For sure I'll try and call up another goalkeeper. I've had young Callan McKenna who's just turned 18-years of age, training with us and he'll travel. I'll see if I can find another one somewhere in Scotland that's not on holiday." Rangers winger attracting 'interest' from three clubs
Sky Sports claims that OH Leuven, FC Basel, and FC Cincinnati are keen on the 22-year-old. Both Raskin and Diomande impressed for Rangers last season, each netting in a 3-2 victory over Celtic at Parkhead.
