‘I screamed': Woman, toddler suffer 3rd-degree burns from charcoal buried in sand
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — It's a cautionary tale for beachgoers: a Hillsborough County mother said her 2-year-old son suffered a serious burn, and it wasn't a sunburn.
Taiji Goodson said her son, Armon, stepped on a hot piece of charcoal on Coquina Beach and was rushed to a local hospital.

'I screamed with him,' Goodson explained. 'I cried with him.'
'I felt like I was finna pass out,' she continued. 'I was telling my sister we need to get to the car.'
'I'm forgetting my phone, baby bag, everything,' Goodson recalled. ''We have to get to the hospital, we have to go now.''
Goodson's cousin, Ja'Niya Davis, recalled the terrifying moment.
She said, within seconds, a fun day at the beach for Memorial Day turned into chaos.
'My mom's like, 'What's wrong, what's wrong?', and I was like gasp and I just started screaming,' Davis said. 'I couldn't talk, and I just put my hand in her face like 'my hand!''
Davis explained that someone left hot charcoals buried in the sand.
Not only did she feel her skin peel from her hand, but she had to see Armon feel that same pain on his foot.
'Just imagine your skin coming off in seconds and you didn't know,' she said. 'As soon as I put my hand in there, my skin instantly came off.'
Goodson said Armon was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and then transported to Tampa General Hospital.
She said he has a long healing journey ahead.
As for Davis, she underwent surgery Wednesday.
'I honestly don't know how my hand looks, I was knocked out,' Davis said. 'I don't remember anything.'
'I just know they told me they were going to take all of the skin off and clean my hand,' she continued. 'Until next week, I won't know how it looks.'
'I just know it's burning and very, very uncomfortable,' Davis said.
News Channel 8 reporter Nicole Rogers asked, 'What would be your advice to people going out to the beach this summer?'
'To pour some cold water down, just check your areas for you and your kids, [and] keep shoes on at all times,' Davis replied. 'Just be careful.'

Florida man violently hit by SUV, police say road rage sparked the incident
A shooting and crash in Florida that resulted in three people being charged was a result of road rage, police say. Around 3:20 p.m. on Monday, the driver of a Jeep Compass was waiting to turn left out of a parking lot when the driver of a Buick sedan turned left into the lot, in front of the Jeep driver. The Buick driver, Anthony Williams, parked and the Jeep driver, Raesean Poole, backed up to confront Williams about not using a turn signal, Bradenton police said on Facebook. Williams and a teenage passenger exited the Buick before Poole claims that Williams showed him a gun during the confrontation. Video captured at the scene shows Poole trying to drive away several times, but stops and continues arguing with Williams. During what police call the "final confrontation," Poole accelerated the Jeep toward Williams, hitting a stop sign, tree and striking Williams in the leg. The teenaged Buick passenger, 16-year-old Manuel Villatoro, then "retrieved a gun and fired into Poole's Jeep," police said. The three involved were detained by police shortly afterward. The Jeep driver, 33-year-old Poole, has been charged with aggravated battery with a motor vehicle. The Buick driver, 20-year-old Williams, was not seriously injured and charges are pending against him. The teenaged Buick passenger, Villatoro, has been charged with aggravated assault with a firearm. Police say the investigation continues.

South Florida couple faces additional charges for sexual abuse of teen, police say
A South Florida couple is facing additional charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a teen who they lured through social media, according to Hallandale Beach police. Alvaro Jaramillo, 27, and his wife, Isabel Estrin, 24, began communicating with the 16-year-old through Instagram in October 2024, according to police. By December, they had met with her and another juvenile female, engaging in sexual acts, according to the arrest report. The report details multiple sexual encounters at locations including the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Estrin's parents' home. The relationship reportedly continued until the teen's mother became aware of it on or around Feb. 1. On February 3, 2025, Estin and Jaramillo, who lived in Aventura at the time, were arrested. Estrin was charged with one count of unlawful sexual activity with a specified minor. Jaramillo was charged with two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a specified minor, one count of promoting a sexual performance by a child and one count of interference with custody. Hallandale Beach said the two new charges of sexual activity with a minor were filed for assaults committed in their city.
