A small plane crashed along a busy street just outside the Boca Raton, Florida, airport Friday morning, erupting into a fireball, police told CNN.
'We are deeply saddened to confirm that a plane crash occurred earlier today within our community,' Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer said in a statement. 'Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic event. We ask for patience and respect for the families involved as investigations continue.'
The aircraft was a Cessna 310, which is a twin engine small aircraft, according to data from FlightRadar24.
The flight tracking site shows the aircraft made repeated loops around the airport before the crash.
'I heard it like zooming by a couple of times and then whew - a plane crashed,' one witness said on video posted to social media.
'The whole building shook,' another man noted.

The plane gave a mayday call to air traffic control, India's aviation regulator said. No response was given by the aircraft after that. It crashed into a residential area called Meghani Nagar. Verified footage taken in central Ahmedabad showed huge plumes of black smoke in the sky. There were 242 passengers and crew members on board, according to Air India. Among the passengers were 53 British nationals, 169 Indian nationals, one Canadian national and seven Portuguese nationals. The aircraft - a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner - had a total of 256 seats on board. Air India said the injured were being taken to the nearest hospitals. Officials have been instructed to carry out "immediate rescue and relief operations" and to make arrangements on a "war footing," the chief minister of Gujarat said. Air India's chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran said an "emergency centre has been activated" and a support team put in place for families seeking information.

"We have also set up a dedicated passenger hotline number 1800 5691 444 to provide more information. "Air India is giving its full cooperation to the authorities investigating this incident. Air India will release further information via regular updates on its X handle ( and on Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025." They added: "At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest." Flightradar24, the flight tracking service, shared on social platform X: "We are following reports of a crash of Air India flight #AI171 from Ahmedabad to London." It continued: "We received the last signal from the aircraft at 08:08:51 UTC (shortly before 9.09am BST), just seconds after take off. "The aircraft involved is a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with registration VT-ANB." Flightradar24 concluded, also noting that the aircraft signal ceased "less than a minute after take-off".
