Armed MACC tactical squad seen entering Tan Sri's home in sukuk fund probe linked to Klang Valley highway project
KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) tactical squad was seen entering the residence of a 'Tan Sri' in Bandar Tasik Selatan this morning, as part of investigations into the alleged misappropriation of sukuk funds for a Klang Valley highway project.
Four vehicles from MACC's Anti-Corruption Tactical Squad (ACTS), including two white vans, a Nissan Grand Livina, and a Honda City, arrived at the property at around 10.50am, with officers visibly armed, according to a report published in The Star today.
Earlier at 8.45am, a white Toyota Vios carrying MACC officers was also seen entering the premises, where part of the entrance had been sealed off by private auxiliary police with cones and barriers.
Members of the media were barred from approaching the area.
The latest development follows a six-hour session yesterday during which the Tan Sri's statement was recorded between 9am and 3.07pm.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki previously confirmed that the highway concessionaire involved is considered a key witness in the case.
As part of the ongoing probe, 45 individuals who had earlier provided statements were recalled for further questioning.
On June 3, MACC revealed it had seized assets valued at approximately RM143 million, believed to be linked to the misuse of sukuk funds meant for the infrastructure project.
Authorities are also tracking down luxury assets associated with the Tan Sri, including vehicles and properties reportedly located in London and Switzerland.

(Bernama pic) BATU PAHAT : A lorry driver and his assistant were killed in an accident involving three heavy vehicles at KM81.9 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) southbound yesterday morning. Batu Pahat district police chief Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the victims of the 8.30am accident were R Pubalan, 45, and his assistant R Sivasanthiran, 35. In a statement, Shahrulanuar said initial investigations found that the crash occurred when the lorry, which was carrying electronic goods, crashed into the back of a timber trailer. 'As a result of the collision, the timber lorry went on to crash into an oil tanker. 'The two victims, who suffered serious head, chest and leg injuries, were confirmed dead at the scene. 'The driver of the timber lorry, who sustained minor leg and chest injuries, was taken to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital in Batu Pahat. The driver of the oil tanker was not injured,' he said. The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Members of the public who witnessed the incident are urged to come forward to any nearby police station.

Family of Chinese victims files RM1.7m lawsuit after deadly tree fall at Penang museum, blames multiple parties for fatal tragedy involving tourists
GEORGE TOWN, June 13 — The family of two Chinese tourists, who were killed by a fallen tree in Penang in September last year, filed a RM1.7 million civil suit against six parties. Yang Xueli, 69, and Wang Geng Feng, 41, through their counsel, Ng Kian Nam, filed the suit at the High Court here today. Yang is the widow of the 69-year-old deceased Liu Zhu and the mother of the 36-year-old deceased Liu Xinxin while Wang is the widower of Xinxin. Liu Zhu and Xinxin were killed when a tree within the car park area of the Pinang Peranakan Museum fell over at about 2.30pm on September 18 last year, crushing the vehicle parked there while the father and daughter were inside the car. In a video call with Ng today, Wang said the letter of demand they issued to five parties in January this year either did not receive any response or a response that took responsibility for the incident. 'We have no choice but to take this step to file this suit in court to make the parties involved liable for what happened to my wife and father-in-law,' Wang said. He said his mother-in-law, Yang Xueli, is elderly and sickly, especially after losing her daughter and husband. In their writ of summons, Yang Xueli and Wang, named Pinang Peranakan Mansion Sdn Bhd, SSM Capital Sdn Bhd, Sri Kumaran's Textile Sdn Bhd, Pony Holiday Sdn Bhd, Har Kwai Leng and Penang Island City Council (MBPP) as defendants in the suit. Ng said there was no reply to the letters of demand from Pinang Peranakan Mansion Sdn Bhd, SSM Capital Sdn Bhd, Pony Holiday Sdn Bhd and Har Kwai Leng. Pinang Peranakan Mansion is the operator of the museum where the incident happened, SSM Capital is the proprietor for the land owner of the museum, Sri Kumaran's Textile is the land owner of the premises where the tree grew, Pony Holiday is the tour agency while Har the driver who took Liu Zhu and Liu Xinxin. He said Sri Kumaran's Textile Sdn Bhd, the owner of the neighbouring lot where part of the tree grew, replied to the letter of demand by denying all liabilities. In a reply by their lawyers, they stated that the tree was found and located on the land of Pinang Peranakan Mansion. They also said Sri Kumaran's Textile Sdn Bhd does not own the tree and was not responsible for monitoring, assessing or acting upon the tree's condition. Meanwhile, MBPP had replied to the notice of demand stating that the tree grew within a private property and was not under its jurisdiction. MBPP also said it has not received any complaints regarding the tree from any party prior to the incident. 'We will file the writ of summons and statement of claims to the Penang High Court through e-filing today,' Ng said. He said the defendants will need to file a statement of defence upon being served the writ. Ng said they are representing Yang and Wang on a pro bono basis to make sure those responsible for the incident are held accountable. He also urged the tourism ministry and local authorities to take responsibility for the incident as it involved tourists. 'This is the basic responsibility of the authorities, especially when it happens in a tourism site,' he said.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 — The statement-taking session involving a highway concession holder bearing the title 'Tan Sri', who is under investigation over alleged misappropriation of sukuk funds related to the construction of a Klang Valley highway, has been rescheduled to next Thursday. This comes after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was unable to complete its session at the individual's residence yesterday due to health issues, according to a report published in Utusan Malaysia today. However, it has been learnt that investigators, together with the MACC Tactical Team (ACTS), carried out a search at the Tan Sri's residence beginning 9am yesterday, which concluded at 1.30am today. It is understood that several residential units within the vicinity of the main property were searched during the operation. During the search, MACC is believed to have seized various luxury items, although no official confirmation has been made. When contacted by Utusan Malaysia, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the postponement of the statement-taking session. He said a medical report issued by the Tan Sri's attending physician confirmed that his current condition does not permit him to proceed with giving a full statement. 'MACC respects the medical assessment and the doctor's advice. The session will be rescheduled once he has fully recovered, which is expected next week. 'Yesterday's session lasted only about two to three hours before it had to be cut short on medical grounds,' he said. When asked whether any new seizures had been made in connection with the Tan Sri, Azam said further details would be announced in due course.
