CCTV footage has revealed the horrifying moment of a water tanker crash at Malir Halt, which resulted in the tragic deaths of a pregnant woman and her husband.
The footage shows the tanker speeding uncontrollably and crashing onto a pavement, with the impact propelling the tanker across the road.
The crash led to the deaths of Abdul Qayyum and his wife Zainab, along with their unborn child. Abdul Qayyum, a government employee, and his wife had been returning from a medical check-up at Koohi Goth Hospital in Landhi when the accident occurred.
A tragic traffic accident at Malir Halt has raised the total number of fatalities in Karachi's traffic accidents this year to 214.
In response, a crowd of onlookers, furious at the incident, pelted stones at the tanker, damaging it, and beat the driver before handing him over to the police. The tanker's helper was also arrested, and the vehicle was confiscated.
The accident is part of a larger problem, as heavy vehicles have been responsible for 68 fatalities in the past 83 days, including dumper, trailer, and water tanker collisions.
The grieving family has called for stricter regulations, such as allowing heavy vehicles to operate only after midnight to prevent accidents.
A social media video showed a citizen desperately trying to save the newborn by rushing to the hospital. Statistics from the Chhipa authorities reveal that 214 people have died in traffic accidents this year, with over 2,700 injuries reported.
The tragic incident has sparked public anger, with citizens demanding that the government take concrete measures to prevent further deaths from heavy vehicle accidents.

Section 144 imposed near Punjab airports

Section 144 imposed in Peshawar for one month. PHOTO: EXPRESS In a move to bolster aviation safety and security, the Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 within a 15-kilometre radius of all airports and Pakistan Air Force (PAF) airbases across the province. The restrictions will be in effect from June 5 to June 20. Under the order, a complete ban has been placed on pigeon flying, fireworks, the use of drones or laser lights and the disposal of animal waste within the designated perimeter. The decision has been taken in the interest of protecting human lives and property and to ensure the smooth operation of flight services. The Home Secretary of Punjab issued the restrictions under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, citing that such activities pose serious threats to flight safety and operations. Open disposal of sacrificial remains, in particular, attracts birds, which can pose severe risks to aircraft and passenger safety. The directives apply uniformly across all civil airports and PAF airbases in Punjab. All deputy commissioners have been instructed to ensure strict implementation of the ban and to maintain enhanced cleanliness in areas surrounding airports and airbases. A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department emphasised that the move is a preventive measure aimed at mitigating potential hazards during the Eidul Azha period, a time when instances of open waste disposal and celebratory activities traditionally increase.

The announcement was made by Professor Syed Mohammad Sultan of the Khyber Teaching Hospital's Psychiatry Department. PHOTO: EXPRESS Anti-Corruption authorities in Swat have taken swift action against a contractor for supplying substandard foam mats to Saidu Group of Teaching Hospital, Saidu Sharif. A total of 180 non-compliant mats were confiscated on-site for failing to meet approved PC-1 specifications. The crackdown followed a citizen complaint filed by Arbab Naveed with the Directorate of Anti-Corruption Establishment, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The contractor was accused of violating procurement rules by delivering poor-quality mats from unauthorized manufacturers. An investigation led by Assistant Director Anti-Corruption Malakand Division, Malik Khan Afsar Khan, confirmed the allegations. The contractor was found guilty of deliberate non-compliance. Authorities gave the contractor one week to replace the substandard items with 320 mats that meet official standards. The directive was fulfilled within the deadline, and the case has now been referred to the Directorate for further legal proceedings.

Children delight in the company of a sacrificial animal in Islamabad on the eve of Eidul Azha. PHOTO: ZAFAR RAJA/EXPRESS Listen to article Punjab Home Department has issued a strong advisory urging citizens not to donate sacrificial animal hides to banned organisations or their affiliates ahead of Eidul Azha. The department has released a list of over 70 proscribed groups and stressed that aiding them—financially or materially—is a punishable offence under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997. 'Assisting entities involved in terrorism or anti-state activities is not only a threat to national security but can also result in legal consequences for individuals,' the spokesperson warned. Citizens have been instructed to donate hides only to charities registered with the Punjab Charity Commission. Verification can be done using QR codes found on official certificates issued to authorised organisations. Seminaries and welfare institutions seeking to collect hides must obtain a valid no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Deputy Commissioner's office. Only groups with legitimate permits issued by either the DC or the Charity Commission are permitted to operate. Among the banned groups named are Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Sipah-e-Muhammad, Jaish-e-Muhammad, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Al-Qaeda, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Jamaat-ud-Dawa, Daesh (ISIS), Hizb-ut-Tahrir, Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation, Al-Akhtar Trust, Al-Rasheed Trust, Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) and others.
