Senior Putin adviser Shoigu meets North Korean leader Kim
The secretary of the Russian National Security Council, Sergei Shoigu, promised North Korea a deepening of cooperation during a meeting with leader Kim Jong Un on Friday.
He informed Kim about the resumption of dialogue between Russia and the United States, Shoigu said, according to a message from the Security Council.
At the same time, he confirmed that Moscow continues to stand by the strategic partnership agreement concluded with Pyongyang last year.
During the two-hour meeting in Pyongyang, Shoigu also expressed his gratitude to North Korea for its solidarity with Russia in the war in Ukraine. North Korea has been internationally criticised for supporting Russia in the war of aggression with weapons and troops.
Shoigu said he delivered a message from Russian President Vladimir Putin. The talks reportedly covered a range of issues, including the situation on the Korean peninsula.
In February, US President Donald Trump declared that he wanted to focus on relations with Pyongyang and his good relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during his term in office.
The two have met three times during Trump's first term but did not reach agreement on North Korea's denuclearization.
Trump says he wants to stick to the goal of completely disarming North Korea of nuclear weapons during his second term in office.

North Korea appears to have stopped loudspeakers blasting noise, Seoul says
SEOUL (Reuters) -North Korea appears to have stopped loudspeakers near the border targeting South Korea, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said on Thursday. The JCS said that North Korean loudspeaker broadcasts were not heard on Thursday, and the South Korean military was monitoring Pyongyang's activities. Seoul suspended its own loudspeaker broadcasts near the border targeting North Korea on Wednesday, after having resumed propaganda and K-pop blasts last year during a time of growing tension with its neighbour. South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, who took office this month vowing to resume dialogue with the North, ordered the move to ease tension, a presidential spokesperson said. Those living near the heavily fortified border have opposed the loudspeaker broadcasts, which they blame for severe noise nuisance.
