Aussie caravan family's warning after 'gross' discovery on the road

Yahoo15-03-2025

A family travelling around Australia in their caravan is warning others to urgently get a filter for their water tap after their own was clogged up with dirty, brown debris after only four days.
Bek and Doug Roberts are living on the road full time with their kids Ava and Conner but hit a bump late last year when they all contracted giardia — an infection caused by a parasite found in contaminated water. Since then, they have installed a filter to their water supply and have been reminded time and time again why it was the right decision for them.
"We all got giardia, so afterwards we got this filter that eliminates bacteria and dirt and it's been pretty good ever since," Bek told Yahoo News. "It's obviously a lot of stuff from the pipes."
Footage shows Bek emptying the family's filter and a blast of brown water sprouting from it.
"It's every campground since we left Brisbane [their home] that our filter has been clogged up like that," she explained, calling it "gross". "We've connected it to town water along the New South Wales coastline, and after four days, we were shocked at how much build-up was in it."

The family say they haven't looked back since installing their $159 water filter and are pleased the days of nonstop vomiting and stomach cramps caused by the infection are behind them.
"At the end of the day, the filter is doing its job and it's not going in our bodies so that is great. We assumed town water was fit and healthy, but it just goes to show that there is still quite a bit of stuff in it," Bek said.
She is now urging others to simply invest in a similar filter to give travellers an extra line of defence against campground water.
"If you just want that extra bit of peace of mind for clean drinking water, I would get any kind of filter that sort of does a similar job," she said.

The £100,000 facelift that's knocked years off Kris Jenner at 69

Everybody loves a transformation story. Had Grease been written in 2025, however, Olivia Newton John would have had to do a lot more than shuck on a biker jacket and a pair of Spandex trousers to make an impact. In a world where billions are vying for attention by ever more desperate means, transformations are two a penny. These days, no diet, makeover or wardrobe glow-up in the world can compete with the impact of a really good facelift. We all know Ozempic can make us thin, and that a stylist can help us dress better. But turning back the years to look 10 years younger? That's still a mystery; a cloak-and-dagger affair whose dark magic occurs behind closed doors, by unknown hands, at unknown cost, with unknown pain and recovery time. Which is likely why so many women can talk of little else these days than Kris Jenner. From the cruise shows of Avignon and Rome to the restaurants of Mayfair to the beach bars of Ibiza, the chat is the same: how, exactly, did the 69-year-old matriarch of the Kardashian clan get her dewy, youthful, plump-yet-taut new visage? And where can we get one? While most women might buy some new clothes to wear to a hen weekend, Kris Jenner went out and bought a new face. When the hen weekend is thrown by Jeff Bezos' soon-to-be-bride Lauren Sanchez, and takes place in Paris, perhaps a Me+Em dress doesn't cut it. No matter that Sanchez, Katy Perry, Eva Longoria and Kim Kardashian were dressed up in their finest garb: they may as well have worn Shein. All eyes were fixated upon Jenner. 'She looks just like Kim!' the internet exclaimed. Which she did – despite being a quarter of a century older. On Tiktok, the hashtag #krisjennernewface has been trending ever since Jenner unveiled her new look, with 57.5 million posts and counting. How-to videos abound, with everyone from surgeons to influencers to your auntie Karen chipping in with their opinions. 'She looks like she's fresh out of the womb,' says the influencer GK Barry, in a post that's had 468.9K views. 'What kind of freaky sorcery is this?' says another user. 'Who is this surgeon, because they are an artist.' The 'artist' in question is Dr Steven Levine, the New York-based surgeon beloved by A-listers for his natural-looking facial enhancements. In a statement shared by Page Six, Levine's representatives confirmed him as the surgeon behind Jenner's most recent work, though they didn't give further details about the procedures. Which hasn't stopped people from speculating. While most celebrities are understandably tight-lipped about the work they've had done, Jenner has previously been open about going under the knife, with one of her procedures even being documented on an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. It's believed that this is Jenner's fifth surgery: as for what she's had done, that depends on who you ask. 'To achieve this sort of transformation in someone who is in their late 60s would likely require a deep plane face and neck lift, blepharoplasty and fat grafting to address lower face jowling and laxity in the neck area,' claims Dr Jonny Betteridge, founder of JB Aesthetics in Mayfair, London. 'This is likely revision surgery, as she would have had surgery in previous years.' According to leading plastic surgeon Patrick Mallucci, Jenner's rejuvenated face has made an impact on account of being unusually well-balanced. 'Looking at her before and after pictures, it appears she's had a brow lift, possibly her upper eyelids operated on, and a very well-done facelift, possibly a deep plane, though it's very difficult to tell the technique by looking at a picture,' he surmises. 'When you look at the thirds of her face – the upper, middle and lower – she's got a very nice, balanced jawline. Unlike some of the facelifts of 20 years ago, where people looked very obviously overpulled and overtightened, this really brings out her good features.' Mallucci's clinic in South Kensington, London, has seen a 30 per cent increase in facelift enquiries over the last five years, as the stigma of 'going under the knife' wanes, and procedures improve in terms of results and recovery time. 'While non-surgical treatments can complement face lifting and stave off the knife until later, ultimately there comes a time when only a facelift can truly rejuvenate an ageing face requiring anatomical improvement,' he says. The 'Rolls Royce' of these is the deep plane. Where a traditional facelift tightens the skin, a deep plane lifts and repositions deeper layers of facial tissue, including sagging muscles and fat, allowing for more natural-looking results which are also longer-lasting. A traditional facelift typically lasts five to seven years: a deep plane can last for up to fifteen. Their subtle results have made 'guess the deep plane' the internet's favourite parlour game, with Nicole Kidman, Anne Hathaway and Lindsey Lohan all recently being cited as allegedly having had the procedure, though this is pure speculation. For her part, Lohan says her appearance is thanks to a healthy diet and laser treatments. Celebrities who have admitted to having deep plane facelifts include the socialite Caroline Stanbury (who had hers aged 49) and the designer Marc Jacobs (who had his at 58). 'There is no such thing as an ideal age for a deep plane facelift, but over the age of 40-45 would generally make a great candidate,' notes the consultant plastic surgeon Mark Solomos. 'You can actually do a deep plane endoscopic facelift at the age of 35 without any obvious scars in front of the ear.' Nor does any previous work tend to be a barrier. 'The only things that would matter would be treatments such as Sculptra. Hyaluronic fillers don't matter too much unless you've overdone it, likewise excessive radio frequency, which tends to burn the fat and creates problems in the subcutaneous tissue.' As for whether 'the Kris effect' means surgeons should now be braced for a wave of clients wanting to look not 10 but 30 years younger than their age, Dr Mallucci believes that managing expectations is key. 'It's very important that I understand what it is that my patients are looking for, but it's equally important that I communicate to them what's realistically achievable. Promising results which are not surgically achievable serves no purpose and only causes disappointment.' And also a depleted bank balance. While a deep plane facelift typically costs between £25,000 – £60,000, it's estimated that the bill for Kris Jenner's work cost in the region of £100,000. Small change for the world's most successful 'momager', but a prohibitively eye-watering amount for most. When your life is lived through a long lens, in the pressure cooker that is Hollywood, it takes more than 'lots of water' to look your best. I'm a 103-year-old influencer — here are my tips for eternal beauty

A care home gran has found unlikely fame as Britain's oldest influencer at age 103 — after becoming an online sensation with her viral makeup tutorials on Tiktok. Joan Patridge still 'puts on her rouge' every single morning before starting the day at Millcroft Care Home, in Redditch, Worcs. Staff there decided to start making videos of her daily routine and were left stunned when one clip attracted almost 300,000 views on TikTok. The retired tram conductor's newfound internet fame has since led to her becoming a brand influencer for a cosmetics company. And she says her top beauty tips for staying youthful include not smiling to avoid leaving white lines while applying blush, sweeping the skin to blend and not to use too much makeup. Great-great-grandmother-of-six Joan said: 'I know I'm 103, but I still like my makeup. I do it every morning when I get up. 'I didn't know much about Tiktok. I thought it was a clock. 'I never thought I would have gained so much attention. I was shocked and overwhelmed.' Joan, originally from Birmingham, gained fans from all over the world after the care home first shared her tutorial on how to apply her staple blush. Joan explained how she sweeps her rouge across her cheeks, gently blending it into her skin using her powder pad. She revealed the trick was to avoid smiling when applying the blush as it can leave obvious white lines where the makeup has missed creases. While she admitted some people like to smile to highlight the apples of their cheeks — she jokes she can't thanks to having 'that many wrinkles that she can't do that'. But she warned fans to take time when applying the makeup, warning them to not apply too much for fear of bright red cheeks. Another top-tip was to 'melt' the product in rather than use circular motions to ensure a super-smooth finish. And while blush is her favourite, Joan's morning makeup ritual isn't complete without applying her eyeliner to make it look 'like she's got some eyelashes'. Since the footage was uploaded in April, fans have flocked to thank the gran for her top tips — with some even asking for more. Makeup brand Collection has since sent the pensioner complimentary gift set packed with blush, lip-gloss and beauty pallets. Joan joked that she is 'too old to work' but says she is thrilled at the opportunity to 'collab' with the firm. Joan, who is the eldest resident at the home, added: 'It was lovely to share my way of applying rouge because I've done this for many years. 'If I was asked to do some more to help kids then I'd be happy to help them. I can honestly say anyone who we've spoken to has been lovely, it makes their day. ''Beauty to me means natural all over. It's nice to feel good about yourself, no matter how old you are – you can't go without your rouge.' Joan applies makeup every day even if she's staying in, adding that it 'makes her feel better'. Joan, who says a nightly brandy is the secret to old age, said: 'Whether I go out or stay in, I put rouge on, I flick it on. 'I put a bit of eyeliner on so I look like I've got some eyelashes. I've always played about with makeup, I used to take it from my sister, we played makeup shops when we were little. 'But you're as young as you feel and age is just a number. 'I wonder why I'm living so long. It's the brandy I think. That's what keeps me happy and smiling. 'Every night before I go to bed I have brandy, I top it up with lemonade to make it sweeter. I have the Three Barrels brand, just a drop. 'If you think well, you'll be well.' Joan has since appeared on ITV's This Morning and racked up millions of views on social media and hopes to carry on making tutorials for teenagers. She said: 'It's very nice to be an influencer as they say, but I'm still an old woman. 'I have enjoyed it, but I feel a fool when people curtsey to me. It's everybody who meets me at the minute. 'Going to London was marvelous, and nobody thought an old woman my age would go off and have a good time.' Joan's granddaughter Nicola Hulme, 50, added: 'Nan really shocks me, she's always up to some mischief. 'When she came to Millcroft we thought we'd have a relaxing time — but no, she decides to go viral on TikTok. 'I'm very proud of my nan, she's precious to me and all of us. She's very unique and I love her a lot. I always say to her to be good – but not too good. 'She shared all the makeup with everyone in her home. This Morning put nan on Facebook and she's had 5 million views on that alone.' Millcroft's manager, Lyndsay Sard, said: 'The makeup that she was using, somebody had tagged the company and said, look, she's using your makeup. 'And the company then got in touch with us, which was really nice, to say how lovely it was to see Joan doing something like that. 'And they wanted to send the makeup directly to Joan.' A spokesperson for Collection Cosmetics said: 'We can't wait to see more from Joan and hope the younger generations feel inspired by her effortless style.' Joan's top 3 makeup tips: * Don't smile when applying to avoid leaving obvious white lines in creases * Use a sweeping rather than circular motion to blend * Less is more — don't use too much blush to avoid bright red cheeks
