Weekly poll results: the Galaxy S25 Edge needed a bigger battery, lower price to be successful
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge could be the herald of a new trend in high-end smartphones – a focus on a thin and light design. However, last week's poll clearly shows that there are several key issues that need to be addressed before this trend gets off the ground and the S25 Edge isn't the model that can see it done.
The first issue is one that can be corrected – at $1,100/€1,250/₹110,000 it's just too expensive. We don't doubt that there will be discounts and deals down the line, but how low will it go? Low enough to convince nearly 23% of voters to reconsider? That remains to be seen.
Other issues can't be fixed so easily – the 3,900mAh battery rightly causes concerns about battery life. That will be one of the more important tests when we review the Edge. Silicon-Carbon batteries have helped manufacturers increase battery capacity to some impressive numbers, but Samsung is late to the party. Maybe it will have the tech ready for the S26 Edge, but that won't help the 2025 model.
Some commenters saw the positives of the Edge design – phones have gotten heavier over the years, too heavy, perhaps. And the S25 Edge weighs basically the same as the vanilla S25, despite offering a much larger screen.
The camera is another concern – the 200MP main module seems promising (another thing that we will focus on in the review), but omitting a telephoto module on a flagship is rarely a good idea.
For now the conclusion is simple – most people will get one of the other Galaxy S25 models or a non-Samsung flagship and only a few will pick the Galaxy S25 Edge as their next phone. Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge

Just when you think the patent wars might be slowing down – bam, another tech giant lands in hot water. This time, it's Samsung, facing a hefty $112 million judgment in the U.S. after a court ruled it stepped on Maxell's intellectual property. Of course, Samsung may appeal this judgment to a higher court if it finds that the ruling isn't satisfactory to it. A report from The Korea Herald indicates that the Court in Texarkana, Texas, said in its verdict that Samsung Galaxy phones, tablets, SmartThings, and even some home appliances are infringing on the patents. The patents are numbers 8,982,086, 10,176,848 and 11,017,815 by Maxell. These patents are focused on new methods of device unlocking, processing of information, networking, and even reproduction of images and videos. Maxell requested almost $130 million in damages, but the jury ordered Samsung to pay almost $112 million. This lawsuit started in 2023. It covered a wide range of electronics-related patents that Samsung was claimed to have violated. Back in 2011, Samsung signed an agreement with Hitachi Consumer Electronics (which was a parent firm back then) to use ten patents from Maxell for a period of ten years. Curiously enough, the company didn't renew the agreement, and obviously, the ten-year period ended in 2021. However, it seems Samsung continued to use the patents in its products. Maxell then contacted Samsung, but the tech giant reportedly claimed the patents were now invalid. The Japanese firm then sued Samsung in multiple markets, including Germany, Japan, and the U.S. At the moment, it's not clear whether Samsung will agree to pay or whether it will appeal the decision and continue the drama. Whether Samsung decides to pay up or fight it out in a higher court, this is just another chapter in the ongoing tech patent drama. And it's not just Samsung – other big names like Apple have had their fair share of these legal battles too. In the world of gadgets and smart devices, it seems there's always something to argue over, it seems.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips in trouble after judge refuses to dismiss lawsuit
Qualcomm's beloved and highly-praised Snapdragon chips are in hot water after a judge refused to dismiss a patent infringement lawsuit filed against the company. If the judge rules in favor of Collabo Innovations Inc. — which filed the lawsuit — Qualcomm might be forced to change how its chipsets are Innovations Inc. alleges that Qualcomm infringed a patent that the former had acquired from Panasonic. The patent involves a microcontroller chip that handles the shutdown processes of a system. Qualcomm had asked for the lawsuit to be dismissed, but the judge ruled that this request was Alan Albright said that there were ongoing disagreements about certain terms like 'microcontroller'. The judge also ruled that Qualcomm's motion to dismiss the lawsuit would be considered at a later date after further sorts of lawsuits often end up with the accused party paying a sum or royalties to the entity that had sued them. If the judge rules in favor of Collabo Innovations Inc., Qualcomm might be ordered to pay a handsome sum of money to the company. However, a harsher result may see Qualcomm being told to stop using the microcontroller chip in its Snapdragon processors entirely. Samsung and Apple are ditching Qualcomm, and that is going to cut into the company's revenue very deeply. In fact, Qualcomm CFO Akash Palkhiwala recently revealed exactly how much its share in the iPhone 17 series was expected to the company's rumored decisions to jack up the price of its upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chip will only drive big customers like Samsung even further away. Samsung has been investing heavily into perfecting its Exynos processors so that it can stop relying on Snapdragon chips that cost it hundreds of millions of Dollars a year. The Snapdragon processors are some of the most powerful chipsets that phone manufacturers can use today. However, this lawsuit — in addition to the other problems cornering the company — threaten to change the smartphone industry's landscape pretty soon.
